Christopher marquez was eating dinner at a mcdonalds in pen quarter when he said he was attack by a group of teens. He believes, because of what the group said to him, that he was targeted because of the color of his skin. Fox5s matt ac clinic talked with chris today, live with more on the story, matt . Reporter he l tells me that he was inside this mcdonalds, just having something to eat, friday night, when a group of young people approached him. They started to question him. Next thing you know, hes on the grounds, outside of the mcdonalds, hes unconscious, then waking up in pain. We caught one Christopher Marquez between classes at american university. This is a picture of him in a neck brace not long after he was attacked you can see injuries to his face, the area around his eye appears discolored, marquez said it all happened after he was approached by a group of young people who he says asked him this they were asking me if i believe that black lives matter. Asked me that a few times. I was ignoring them at first, because i felt they were intimidating me, being hostile, they approached me, and how they were talking to me. And then they started calling me a racist. Marquez has a hard time remembering where he was hit. He said the police t after reviewing Surveillance Video that he was hit from behind outside the mcdonalds. And a gentleman in a white shirt hit me in the back of the head. They dont know if he had anything in his hand, if he had a gun or anything, or if it was just a fist. Marquez is a decorated marine, the iraq war memorial was commission from the a picture showing marquez helping rescue a fellow marine. Meantime, marquez has been told there is video of the incident, but when reporters asked police about it today, they have this to say. We are very well aware that the case has drawn national attention. With many of our assault, we have detective that pick up those cases. And if there is evidence associated with the case well get it out there and share it with the public. Reporter Christopher Marquez says he wants to make it clear that he is not a racist. He says that when he was approached by the group, and questioned, he just basically said leave me a lot of it, he cant remember, but one thing he did want to point out is that he loves dc, he loves the people of dc, so many people have called to offer eir assistance, and he says it is truck that he hears about so many attacks recently. He didnt think that he was going to be a victim. But the reason he is speaking out, the reason he want to get on tv, and talking to everyone, he is truly hoping that the group that attack him is caught soon. Laura, sarah . Reporter let me answer, one, we are told by christopher himself, he got off the phone with the detective right before the interview today. That will detective toll him that that video will be released sometime tonight, or tomorrow morning. By the way, speaking of surveillance cameras, there are as inside the mcdonalds, if you know this area on e street, directly across the street from the fbi headquarters, and ive just been looking in the last minute or two, there are about 12 cameras, fixed cameras, on this side of the building, alone. We dont know if dc police have reached out to federal authority. But there are a lot of eyes, a lot of cameras, on this particular area. The number of victims in the bridges georges county pornography investigation has grown. Investigators say theyve now identified 17 victims, and that number could go even higher. He joins us live at the Prince Georges CountyPolice Head Quarters with more, hey, sarah. You know, from the very day that caroway was arrested, investigators here were bracing the public that the initial ten victims may only be the tip of the iceberg. And tonight with that victim total now standing at 17, well, Police Officers here in prince Georges Country broadening their investigation, why, the police chief here tells fox5 they want to know if caroway had help. Our focus at this point is to see if he was collaborating with anybody, and how did he finance this . Those are important questions because that leads us to the potential for additional victims. Reporter officials first released this updated victims total by way after tweet that was sent out just this morning. The official counted Prince Georges County police department. Now, tonight, the Maryland States Attorneys Office in Prince Georges County say they expect that the charges against caroway will be amended within the next several weeks, to higher number of victims, and the new information that these interviews are continuing to produce. Caroway a volunteer at the Wood Elementary School over at glenn around end, alleged to have shot child pornography at the school, as well as child abuse at the building and Aquatic Center and Lutheran Church in buoy. Now, the fbi also speaking out tonight in its roll in all of this. The bureau was telling fox5 while child pornography is, yes, a federal cre, their primary catch right now in this case is to assist the Prince Georges County police chief and the Maryland States Attorneys Office. Reporter laura, sarah, thats a development in because for a long time investigators insisted that darren wendt likely did not act alone there is indictment coming down just minutes ago here, and were learning hes now being charged with 20 felony charges, and i will read you the list, it includes litany of them including 41st degree murder charges, for the death of amy, philip, and including their house keeper, alicia figueroa, a but the charges also list in the this indictment are burglary, kidnapping, extortion, arson, and theft, all for the slayings that happened here at this woodley park mansion back in may. Now, all of this just coming down, were also learning that in the indictment, investigators say, went enters the home, seeds dollars and kidnapped those victims, stole 40,000 through means of extortion, murdered the victims, then set fire to the house, it was only once investigators responded to the call for the fire that they found all four this home brutally murdered. Now, because of those murders, considered to be haneous a tears and cruel, those four felony first degree murder charges also carry a specification of they call aggravating circumstances, because of that, the minimum sentence for those four murder charges are 30 years in prison. Now, if a jury finds darren went guilty of charges, then he could face a maximum of life in prison without the possibility of release on each of these charges. Again, a long list in this indictment, 20 total felony charges, a lot still coming through. We have to sift through this indictment. But his is all breaking news here from the woodley park home. We havent seen it since back in may, tan remains fairly much as it did post the investigation, it has now been nine months since the murders, and youll see this door just tiled together by a padlock, pride on the top part. And the rest of the home remains boarded up. Still, there seems to be evidence and no changes to this house, on the interior as well as exterior, because you can still see the fire damage on this roof, just recently this house was sold. So this house is no longer part of evidence. The police turned it over, and it was sold to someeon who declined an interview, and since then, weve seen no changes to the houses, neighbors here wondering if this house will be raised, or if eventually it will be remodelled.
