's like ken said, you got to control the game the clock and establish that play sack pass that lets you play >> brody rob kelly gets better as the game goes an and you only have 14 carries, i'm just not sure if that gets him in the flow >> run, the ball that's going to slow down defense. you can call strains. >> in the passing game this will be critical, the eagles will try to doyle up blitzes in this game, it's something. they've been good at. this is i think a quarterback's best friend. it could be smoked out to the sideline. it could be at the line of scrimmage and bubbles, james son crowder. i'm talking about, chris thomas has been tremendous to this season, middle of the field, i think the things you can do to kind of make pass rushers like you two surrounding me, i got to know someone is behind me ready to catch the football >> i like what you said in that the design play and not trickery. trickery is kind of an act of desperation, design is i know you got guys coming full speed, use it to your advantage and this >> and what does that do as a defender when you know the team is really good at running screens >> it hurts especially when they set up with the run game, they get you in attack mode, all of a sudden they get you up the fielding little dump on the screen and you're looking up around seeing them running down the field, third down you got to have a better start today. >> this has been the biggest problems the redskins have had in each of the last two loss gave up a 14, play 75 yard to open their loss to the arizona cardinals and that was on the heels, by the way of ten days of prep time after the game. . jay gruden was lived. it set up a bad farrant rest of the day. this was not the first time this happened. we won this before against the dallas cowboys on a short beat. the cowboys shoved the ball down the reasons throats. >> so how do you say it? defense is like the heart of the team. that's kind of the attitude of the team. and if you want the defense, you see your defense getting destroyed on the first drive, they're saying we're going to go to kick your but and we don't care who you are >> you know what it's like with that philly fan base, so if the eagles get off to a quick start, how much does that rile up a team >> the fan base will be rocking and that can deplete the point about the third down, the redskins need to play with urgency. you can't be out there all day long, when you're tired you're not going to be productive. >> situational defense, brody, they're so bad right there, it does deplete you, hair the hardest team in the nfl to force into a 13 out. that should mean you're rarely fatigued because your offense possesses the football a long period of time >> and mo mentioned carson wentz. >> they're talking about his technique, and it's getting worse as time is going on and at one time, he was the ghost who got. he was this incredible rookie. if he gets into a space start getting him isn't the old laboratories trying to mike things happen, you can definitely change the game. >> how much of quarterback, it's like the book is out on him >> >> they're going to open the play book up a little bit more >> dangerous a lot of people don't respect his athletic ability >> although he had a great start and kind of been losing a little bit, oath he's a big threat. they have all the confidence in the world. >> this is why young players should never read their press clippings, the same time guys overrating you when things were go well are now under rating and talking poorly about you. it's not all him right now >> you don't read what they say about you on the show >> i always read about me on the show i make a lot of mistakes >> we're just getting starting. we can have hits that could help you to take a look score big, redskins game time we'll be right back. redskins trivia. welcome back to game time, it is time for the redskins trivia question brought to you boy navy federal. what is the redskins longest winning streak against the eagles in the series that began in 1934? we'll have the answer for you in just a bit. brody? >> fox 5 fantasy lineup brought to you by washington toyota dealer time for fantasy facts. everyone week we give you key match-ups. we're in playoff time. >> yes, we are >> game one, who are we looking at >> seahawks traveling the greenbay kickoff set for 4:00 today. like two teams throw the football around, what you may be thinking is what about last week? what about when we saw the bad weather game in lambeau field? well, that it got ugly. i'm not expecting snow covered grounds, the precipitation and bad whether we got that prohibited these teams from throwing the football. seahawks, russell wilson i think has the big game, dug balance win, if you look at the passion game for seattle. it's been pro listening at times. they to give up a loot of big plays when kirk cousins shredded them a couple of weeks ago. daily be catching it >> aaron rogers. >> this is actually a playoff relevant game, and a game with implications for the redskins, they play the panthers monday night next week, if carolina loses to the chargers near season is over and they may be coming to washington with a little bit left to play for from a fantasy perspective, i just love the san diego, i think phillip rivers throws it consistently to the outside they got a couple of refers who have been cheaper like terrell williams, and robin gordon always a threat >> you mentioned the snow with weather last week, will the weather play a role in the outcome of today's game in philly? caitlin roth is here with a look at your game time weather and just when you thought they turned the corner, the problems reemerged, redskins game time is back after this. game time welcome back, live look at the white house, very, very cold morning, cold here, up in philadelphia. if you're up early watching, you're traveling for the game, pack as many layers as possible. these temperatures are no joke. just this cold as yesterday morning, it's 31 in washington, just 28 in baltimore, 31 in martinsberg, across the northeast very cold, 29 in new york city, 20 boston, philadelphia in the 20's. look another snow cover trying to make its way into southeast pennsylvania not making it to the ground in our area, northeast corner of maryland, southeast pennsylvania, a little light snow, and possibly some flurries are possible for the redskins eagles game. that being said, it will be primarily dry, cloudy and cold kickoff temperature of just 35. brody snow not going to be a factor but just the pure cold. that the fans and players will be dealing with for the game today. >> brought to you by. it is time for the redskins play of the game and gentlemen just when we thought the redskins were getting over the red zone it looks like the play in detroit, the same exact play almost. >> similar which worked for a one yard touchdown. there's a penalty. secondlies at his has been to be caught. we're talking about red zone problems, whether it's play call shawn mcway, a lot of flack for into the getting people open. this is a runningback who's got body around him, the hardest play to catch is when you're wide open. you're focused and concentrating on the ball, when you're wide open, take your eyes off and it's over. >> you tell me, if you're a defensive player in the red zone, you can miss a penalty, five, ten yards back, that's the best you can get >> absolutely. come on, give me a break, you have to make this play >> flag or not, you got to catch then they went with the fade to desean jackson on the third and goal from the two. we're going to see that play here. what was the thinking here? you're smallest receiver. >> desean jackson, generally speaking is bad idea. he doesn't get jump balls. you also got him on patrick pederson, bigger than him. here's why they did it. i actually went back and watched this closely, the re one week ago, he ran an inside plan and beat his owe offender inside against the dallas cowboys, what needs to happen -- they think patrick pete son is going to he's going to overcompensate and get him on the outside if we can watch it one more time. what you're going to see is i don't think he sells that step enough. peterson doesn't fight inside, they never that fight across his body and he doesn't get behind him to the work from jump >> it takes time for speed to develop. quickns and speed two different things, you got the short space, you can't do that and he's not a guy that can jump's somebody. you can't take advantage speed. it's not going to work. >> how much of that is on the quarterback when you see it's not working? are you just throwing the up on that >> honestly, he, quarterback he can throw it up maybe get a penalty, and when it's closed sometime you got to impro advise. >> which players guaranteed to make an impact? we're guaranteeing it. skins game time is back after this. im let's get to it with your eagles to watch starts up front on defense with the 100 million dollar man fletcher cox. not quite playing like -- it's not his fault. he got paid this off season, $1 million contract guaranteed. one of the best players in football this position last year, behind him people playing extra attention to him. he got 20 tackles this season, that doesn't mean he can't beat you if you don't chip in, he'll live in your back field, watch out for fletcher today, don't let him get off. the redskins to watch is ryan kerrigan, we can go with him most weeks i normally don't. not only did he get the double dchts in sacks last week, remember he took over the game in a win against philadelphia going back a couple of months ago on the first drive alone he had the a sack in the quarterback hit and got the redskins off the field. he terrorized the tackle. kerrigan has to be effective in getting to carson wentz, here's your stat. the redskins gave up ten conversions on 16 in this regard-down attempts to the cain in the nash football league at getting off the field on third down, that is a one-way ticket. ez pass, the hov lane to being a bad. >> that is a key thing, these are like third and 12, third and ten they're giving up, ken, what do you see from the defense causing these let-downs on the third down? >> i think, you look at, i'm looking at it from a pass rushing perspective. it's just one move, the outside guys are getting pushed outside. they're not enough push in the middle. you neat to try a little more stunt force the quarterback >> how demoralizing is that as a defense when you allow these long drives every third down they're converting >> terrible. you made a good point, third and whatever, i just thought playing -- stopped playing, what are you doing? why are you so close to the ball? back up. get to where the first down line is and just throw the ball. it's ridiculous. what's your question >> sounding like it's not third and three where they had their problem, i never saw a worse in, third and ten, 11, they're getting gashed. they're converting on third and really long? it's one of the highest, it's a disciplinary thing to your point where let's make tackles in the open field, number two, let's have some awareness of where the situation are. >> i have a bit of situational awareness >> coming up on redskins game time, do the redskins's recent problems have to do with coaching and if an eagles player fined with trying to fool the league. redskins game time when coming back. half time to time to start the second half of the nissan keys to the game. we're focusing in on the head man, jay gruden. >> i think it starts at the top. you got the coaches yelling at the player and doing all of that. at the end of the day it's just the coaches. phase is not going to work, talk about defense. coaches have to motivate the defense to get in there get to the quarterback. starts with the top then you move down, but that he didn't coaches need to do a better job. >> i think that there's always going to be a little play calling selection of one thing over another. in general, i actually tend to disagree. i'm a players are on the field. they will make the play. for me. coaches can help you on wednesday and thursday. jay gruden wasn't out there missing tackles, he was a really good player, i'll make case that the players' job is harder, i try not give coaches too much credit when you win or >> that's a good point. i think again said as well, it comes from the top down. coaches are responsible when you doing good and responsible when you're doing bad. but the players are the ones on the field making the plays and have to be responsible studying the playbook. jay gruden needs to kind of take accountability for his team is doing bad. on paper they look great, for some reason they kind of had a downhill spiral. needs to take the reigns back and make sure he gets back on track >> a lot was made about jay gruden getting on the team, you could hear him outside of the locker room. these known as a players coach. you got to change up your coaching style to get through? what i think happened there was jay gruden, did what he typically always does. the difference is in arizona, you're literally in a little interview room directly next to the locker room and you get to hear the sho room that you normally don't. so if jay gruden, i think he just heard something you typically, it's fairly common >> i know he's an emotional guy but you don't want to lose the team when you know you're supposed to won't and you do get emotional and you try not to at the players >> if you want to beat a team you're supposed to beat you want to get six instead of three >> you're looking at it, you're like dude, you got to catch the ball. you can't walk away and be satisfied with three points instead of getting six or seven. and that's the mentality you got to have. if we got to run the ball three times, we're going to get it in and i don't care what to stop it >> i like to see them run the ball a little bit more effectively and more often quantity over quality inside the five i can't remember line, here you see rob kelly get stacked up. you go back to last week against dallas, they lost to go, short yard itch. that's got to change first, i also think. tables are turning a week or to, let's get inbreaking, get quick like desean jackson james son crowder winning >> i also think you got to use your personnel, they've been doing well on the open field. when you get in the red zone don't get away from there. get that wide receiver vernon davis guy out there. do some rub-outs do something like what the patriots are doing get the guy open >> jordan reed may be back today? two touchdown catches against the cowboys last time he play, both in the red zone and he's as good a thrown as -- >> you saw it against the cowboys running in the back of the end zone, opens up so much more for this offense >> regardless if you throw it to bob kelly when he's open and he catches it, if there's a flag on the field, doesn't mean time. don't now, if you're a great team, if you're a good team or average team and you're playing against a good or average team, it's up in the air, the redskins aren't good enough to say they can overcome a lot. you got to make sure you play as good a game as possible. >> we saw the radars winning i think it was 24 penalties which was a record in a victory and the redskins aren't that -- they can't do that. these are the games where penalties matter more to me. it's the games where you're playing a team that you're better than. i don't think they're definitively better than philly. but they're better and if you don't turn the ball over which to me, and you don't miss those penalties and don't beat yourself it will be hard for them to beat them >> do not beat yourself, this is a game hard enough to win on its own. if you have self inflicted wounds, you're not going to give yourself a chance. pena they will have a better way >> there are self inflicted then wounds you inflict on the opposition and looks like we want to get inflict some wounds on carson wentz, get to him. >> this is the part where i smile. looking if you get a quarterback who's already in his mind he's trying to do so much and trying to make things happen. you start hitting him early you can get in the person mind be i got to do so much or they start getting has that feet or start getting that invisible pass rush and they start making mistakes, get to him and get to him early >> here's where i hesitate a little bit about today's match-up. the redskins trashed and crushed carson wentz from the beginning of last week's game. they had attack on first place from will blackmon. i worry a little bit about the fact that they showed a lot of tricks in that game. when hey beat the eagles, defensively it's going to be difficult. you saw, i think you have fresher today, just from the line of scrimmage without blitzing, from your brunt. he said got to be chris baker. i don't think you can go back in the same, >> these team play each other twice a year, they studied and they know what they're bringing. it's all about -- it's all about consistency, you know, the redskins have to come out and play consistent game, have to get out to the quarterback, wentz and the eagles have their backs pinned wall, nothing to lose, hungry to win eagles team. >> let me ask you, seems like we've seen two carson wentz in this season, seems like a quarterback. he's had a lot of things to go through, to first half, first quarter, he was the guy, rookie sensation >> everyone was riding his coat tail, he was on cloud nine, now things popping there, he was going to get to see what this team is made of and what this young rookie quarterback is made of >> when you you're going to be -- when you start getting tennessee you start seeing what the person does, that's when you -- that's the veteran becomes the rookie or the veteran against the rookie >> i also think important to this was the fists week really that he started getting with the redskins game, they got a lot of fresher, then the eagles were playing behind most of the game. for the early part of the year, everything was 72 and sunny, a lot of -- handing the football off. drew it up on wednesday and thursday, defense was playing gram. the defense hasn't played as well. the running game, nelson agholor. the more you put on a young guys plate, a lot of guy can say do this and this, when you start throwing 40 game. not a whole lot of rookie quarterbacks are going to look good, i'm going to kick it over oh annie yu put it on her plate right now go around the league with guy lambert >> thank you, guys, good stuff. lots of things happening. let's talk about collin kaepernick's parents speaking out by the kneel >> there's nothing that makes me feel more he warm and fuzzy inside than getting my parents opinion. we know that colin kaepernick pretty much every week in the nfl has taken a knee during the national anthem for what he says happens to be the injustices of minorities and african-americans. his parents refused to comment and now speaking out saying we are very proud of our son, perhaps all of this being spurred by a naval admiral wh recently spoke outwhile addressing a crowd during a pearl harbor reunion. let's take a look. >> you can bet that the men and women we honor today and those who died that fateful morning 75 years ago never took a knee and never failed to stand whenever they her our national anthem being played >> clearly a shot at colin kaepernick. his parents once again saying we are very proud and we will continue success going out to him >> he's talked about it in multiple interviews and they still support him. there's still controversy, some people not understanding. we'll move on to another controversial, this one dealing with a snapchat. >> are you feeling lucky annie, i don't know right now. >> i'll tell you who's not, lucky white head, the punt returner for the dallas cowboys. you got to get to the meetings on time as a player, you get to practice on time as a player and apparently if you're with the dallas cooy to social media prior to a game. apparently that being the case for mr. whitehead. saturday morning he took the snapchat and posted a video an unidentified woman happened to be in that video as well. we don't know exactly what happened in that video but the dallas cowboys apparently were watching the snapchat and said you violated team rules, hint, you got to stay at home. he did not make it to new york as they're going to take on the giants later today. the key thing annie is that we don't know if he's suspended or deactivated. that's a big deal. if you're suspended you lose a game check. if deactivated he's just unlucky >> you got to watch what you do on social media. the rumor is that former redskins quarterback rg iii making a come back. >> we're talking about rg iii going to be starting today for the first time in a long time. of course, we know he got injured during week one. will be
