Southern maryland its still showing some rain for you but here we are at noon. You see were dry, just cloudy and on the cooler side of things here in d. C. And the working our way into sunday evening that rain starts advancing a little bit farther north but still south of d. C. So if you live kind of North Montgomery county, Frederick County Carroll County up towards baltimore maybe we can escape tomorrow with more of a drier day than a who 61 degrees your current number in d. C. Light rain is being reported. Winds are out of the north and youre looking at your daytime high today because temperatures are going to continue to drop as we head through those afternoon hours. Were still hanging onto 60 in the district, 62 at quantico, 63 for fredericksburg but you see cooler air north and west. Hagerstown 53, frederick 59, westminster 57 degrees with a northerly flow all day today. Its a recap of yesterdays strong storms. Severe storms are now out of the area as mike mentioned and today all well have to worry about is rain. This is video of that hail storm that hit yesterday afternoon in the bethesda area. The storm also knocked down trees and power lines in takoma park. This tree fell on a bakery. No one on the street or inside the store was hurt. The downed trees blocked streets and made it pretty difficult for drivers to get around. It could be months before a chevy chase maryland family is back in their home after last nights storm knocked a tree into their home o nobody was injured just a lot of debris an displaced family. Tisha lewis has the story. Taken during the powerfuldurain storm that took down this tree in this chevy chase neighborhood. We were inside the house and all of a sudden heard this crackling against the windows. Went to look and it was hail, big of golf balls pelting our windows. Reporter but joshua grim made out just fine compared to his neighbor. Then you hear this big crack boom and our neighbors live oak tree fell down. Branches were flying everywhere. Reporter the homeowner didnt want to talk on camera but told me off camera he was home with his family when the tree came crashing down. Its greater than 150,000 worth of damage at this time. Obviously with the contents not in the house thats going to increase the contents will have to be stored while the construction is done. Reporter restoration contractor Christian Larson says the tree pierced through the roof and into the ceiling in the homes top floor, a rarity. Its very rare that you see a tree come completely through the house. Reporter what youre seeing in this bethesda neighborhood is more common, just minor roof damage after a tree toppled down. In that same time frame weve had a number of car crashes, number of roads closed obviously trees and branches bringing wires such asonnectnu are affected, university boulevard, river road and things that of nature but again, good thing is no injuries. Injuries. To Prince Georges County where that police need your help. They need to find a more than killed a teen. Police say 17yearold tahjia chase was stabbed to death in forestville. She knocked on the door of a house on springdale avenue easter morning the homeowner later found her unconscious on the front lawn and she died a short time later. And in Fairfax County an elderly man was that found dead in his Senior Center apartment at the little river glen senior send. Investigators say 77yearold con hugh wen had trauma to his upper body. Police have no suspects or a motive in this case. A and update on the murder of of a maryland father killed inside his college park apartment. This is reporter the murder happened at these pants next to the college park ikea. We learned the victim rawle farley thought he was buying a laptop from the suspects. They came here to rob him. You can see that many sign right over there, these buildings are monitored by cameras and police want you to take a close look at this video of the suspects. The men now accused of murder were caught on camera as they entered the victims apartment building. Police announced thursday they caught the guy in the red hat but investigators are still searching for this man and a third suspect who comes in after the first two. Police say soon after this, the men shot and killed rawle farley and injured his friend. The friend frantically tried to get help. You hear a guy yelling and screaming. Reporter Jason Roberts was inside his apartment when he heard the commotion in the hall. So i leaned my head out the door and one apartment hes banging and he sees me open the door and stick my head out and hes got blood all over his shirt, his hands. He had knocked on like 10 apartments he said and nobody would answer the door or open up. Reporter roberts says he saw his neighbor collapsed near his door. He was like yeah, hes dying, hes dying. Can somebody help. So i tell my brother in t, right in the foyer area i told him to call 911. Reporter according to charging documents farley thought he was buying a laptop from the suspects but they came to steal from him. He was killed when he and his friend tried to stop the robbery. Friends say farley was a Business Owner and a father loved by many. I knew who he was. I seen him in the apartment complex. He walked past my apartment a couple times. We would say hi and, you know, whatever and, you know, in passing. Reporter roberts says even weeks later, what happened seems surreal. He hopes the two remaining suspects are caught before they hurt someone else. Its scary cause, you know, if they can do that so something so stupid like a computer or whatever they were arguing about, and theyre out here, you know, its worrisome that they can do it to someone else if apparently they dont have any regard for anybodys safety or life. Happening today, demolition crews are tearing down a mansion northwest d. C. Where four people were killed back in 2015. This was the scene of the socalled mansion murders. Savas and Amy Savopoulos and their 10yearold son along with their housekeeper were killed and the house was set on fire. The man charged with their murder is darrun wint. A Loudoun County schoolteacher behind bars. She showed up to her middle school drunk and with alcohol. Police say megan debo had an open container of alcohol inside the school. The 29yearold sixth grade teacher teaches english and she was arrested. It happened around 8 30 in the morning. Its not clear whether she interacted with students friday morning but officials were began. Well, i think its a shame that she thinks that its okay to get in a car and go interact with children because she is supposed to be setting an example for these children. Glad that she was arrest and im glad shes in jail. I feel sad for the school, i feel sad for the kids, i feel sad for the whole countys reputation on it. I mean, its all kind of sad. Reporter hail wind and rain all captured on home video taken during the powerful storm that took down this tree in this chevy chase neighborhood. We were inside the house and all of a sudden heard this crackling against the windows and went to look and it was hail, big hail balls about the size of golf balls pelting our windows. Reporter but joshua grim made out just fine compared to his neighbor. Then you hear this kind of big crack boom and our neighbors old live oak tree fell down. Branches were flying everywhere. They had other plans though. They came here to rob him. The men now accused of murder were caught on camera as they entered the victims apartment building. Police announced thursday they caught the guy in the red hat but investigators are still searching for this man and a third suspect who comes in after the first two. Police say soon after this, the men shot and killed rawle farley and injured his friend. The friend frantically tried to get help. We hear a guy yelling and screaming. Reporter Jason Roberts was inside his apartment when he heard the commotion in the hall. Door and one apartment over hes banging and he sees me open the door and stick my head out and hes got blood all over his shirt, his hands. He had knocked on like 10 apartments he said and nobody would answer the door or open up. Reporter roberts says he saw his neighbor collapsed near his door. He was like yeah, hes dying, hes dying, can somebody help so i tell my brother in right in the foyer, i told him to call 911. Because we know its so hard and i know you work with this started with a very special young lady and actually we did a story on this a few years ago our very own sue palka but take us back for those who arent family with ellies hats and how it came started. Ellie came to wood burn elementary she had been diagnosed with cancer completely lost all of her hair and she just wore hats all the time. Thought i want to get her a couple hats and i got her a couple hats started telling friends and family and with the help of social media we ended up with 140 hats so we had them go to the hospital so ellie could give them to her friends that were also there at a Holiday Party and just the response was that the hats just helped to brighten the kids day, they enjoyed them so february 2014 we just decided or i decided were going to try to do this as much as we can give hats to kids all across the country just to help brighten their day. Thats amazing, jay. All the support that you received from that. Now, take us to today. What is going on day to day for you . How can people get involved . Well, the one thing i tell people if they would just follow on social media and get involved and tell just tell people about ellies hats and what we do and we do a lot more than hats. Weve done quite a bit with inova. Well do whatever we can to help a family. We do family dinners at inova. Weve donated to a helps families that are struggling. We took a boy to the wizards ga help. Just to help, right. Speaking of families this is where brian and they caseys automotive is a local Community Based shop and so you all jumped in. You all have children. How did this connection happenup. So we met jay at a school convenient where we were both supporting the school and we both fell in love with him. Hes just so passionate about ellies hat. Hes driving that bus and were here to support jay and hes a grit guy. What is this fun event coming up . Im looking forward to it. We have a car show and spring fest it is sunday april 30th, 12 30 to 4 30 at our shop in chantilly which is located near the Dulles Expo Center and we will have a bunch of cool cars, well have stuff for the kids. I have some camera some pictures that are going to be flipping in a few seconds that show a completed kitchen where that had been done with chalk paint and then refinished so here we have a. M. Before, one of my customers, dana, this was her before. The next shot should be her after completed with chalk patient without stripping priming and sanding youre able to get a new kitchen. Another cool idea for spring updates is to refresh your front today. The front door is your statement to the world like this is whats inside of my home and the next flip we should be showing some that one can do also with chalk paint, very simple, some beautiful bright, beautiful english yellow duck egg empress silk. You can do that in an afternoon repaint your door give the world a new entree into your home. Theres another picture, a beautiful english yellow picture door excuse me door to your front.
