he later died - and police say the driver was not at fault. sarah krueger has the more on the grieving father s said. i want you to know that i forgive you that )s part of the powerful message mark strickland has.. for the man who accidentally killed his son. don t carry guilt around for an accident that was nobody )s fault lexington police say 21-year-old jacob strickland was walking along south salisbury street when he was hit and killed by a car on saturday night. on tuesday...strickl and posted this message to the driver on his own facebook page...and it s gotten hundreds of shares since...in awe of his ability to forgive. i was raised in a christian family. we were brought up to believe in i don t see any purpose at all in hatred strickland says police told him that the driver stayed on the scene and helped jacob as much as he could. accidents happen but what happened after the accident is what touched me. he stood up like a man and took responsibilty for an accident. strickland hopes his son will be remembered for his life.. not his death. a witty, intelligent, hardworking man .. about to deploy in the navy. jacob would want something positive to come from his life and his death and maybe that.. is one father s reminder to one driver.. that we can all learn from. i don t want him to carry this guilt with him throughout the rest of his life. if i could tell him to take anything away from this, he needs to try even harder to shine even brighter to honor my son the father said when he posted his message on facebook -
