Today vdot crews are still working to clean up after the storm but are already working to make sure the roads are safer for when more snow show accident cars crashing into jersey walls into each other and skidding off the road were common sights this weekend. Virginia state police say they responded to more than 15 hundred Car Accidents throughout the state during the snow storm. A third of those crashes happened in Hampton Roads. But according to the Virginia Department of transportation those crashes weren t because of their road preparations. 1 34 30 a lot of time our trucks are out there and they are being passed by vehicles. Drivers need to pay attention. Our drivers are out there and we have very few accidents ourselves so the roads are in decent condition. Bill collier with vdot says his crews worked to prepare the roads days before the storm hit. They were prepared with 25 thousand tons of salt and nearly 10 thousand tons of sand to treat state roads. A Virginia Beach man will spend the next 27 years in prison for raping and strangling his roommate. 34yearold Waytayha Scott pleaded guilty to rape and unlawful strangulation last july. Officials say back in 2013 scott raped a woman with whom he shared a home on buttonwood court. Police say it happened in the garage where the woman lived with her child. Officials say he sexually he was linked to the assault through dna. Elizabeth city police have arrested a man in connection with an attempted robbery. Police say 28 yearold brett cote got into a 74yearold woman s car at the zoom gas station on main street. He then asked her to drive him to the gateway bank on ehringhaus street. She agreed. Police say when they arrived, cote told the woman to get out of the car and get him money. But she refused. Cote then sped off in her car. He was later pulled over and arrested. Cote is charged with attempted armed robbery, larceny of a Motor Vehicle and assault inflicting serious injury. A york county woman was taken to the hospital after her trailer home caught fire. It happened at the harwood trailer park just after one30 on route 17. Officials say the woman was in her bed when the fire started. An off duty sheriff s deputy a lieutenant and a few others worked to tear down one of the walls to get the her out safely. She was taken to the hospital and the fire temporarily shut down all south bound lanes on route 17 but they have since been reopened. Right now officials started.
