everybody and once again we're going to be taping four programs right in a row and for those of you out in television, we always like to have you understand, we're just a bible study. we're not an organization as such. we're just simply trying to get folks interested in studying their bible without any denominational hang-ups and so forth, just search the scriptures and see if these things are really so. we've been always reminded to review, review, review and i apologize for it over and over. but, i am going to do once again a review of our timeline, which of course, is the one thing i guess, that we gecomments on more than anything else. keep reviewing the timeline. so before we continue on in our verse by verse, whi will start in ephesians chapter 1 now and roy has the scripture on going straight to ephesians 1, we're going to do a quick review from genesis from genesis all the way through revelation as the history unfolds. now i know a lot of people think history is a boring subject and i guess, maybe i thought the same thing when i was a kiin school. but when you begin to look at history in the light of biblical teachings, it's the most exciting subject on earth. because history you see, is simply god's sovereign control of the events of humans in time. and even though as i've said to often on the program and in my classes here in oklahoma, one of the things that is hard to comprehend is that god turned man loose with a free will. he is not just a puppet on a string. and yet, in spite of that free will, here we are nearly 6000 years after it all began and are right on god's timetable. not off a of the miracles of course, of biblical history. so i'm going to go to the board anjust bring us up through the timeline so those of you to whom this is old hat, if you'll just bear with me, and for those of you who are new, we'll try to go slow enough that we don't lose you. but, at about 4004. now there again, i always have to stop and explain some of these things. for ever so long chronologers assumed that christ was born at what we call 'zero' and that 4000 bc adam was created and then thanks to archeology some years o they put together the fact because of king herod's rule and reign and death, that christ had to have been born 4 bc, according to our now gregorian calendar. so if adam was created 4004 bc instead of born 4 bc and that of course puts his crucifixion at 29 ad instead of 33 ad. i know a lot of people wonder, well why do you put his crucifixion at 29 ad; i always thought he was crucified when he was 33. well, he was but i'm going to the newer findings that christ was born 4 bc instead of on '0'. which, bring up another thing, i'm amazed how many people will call or write and ask was does ad stand for. i had a lady call again the other day, she said, i asked my pastor. he didn't know. she said, i asked everybody in my church and nobody could tell me what ad stood for. some said, well 'after death.' well, that doesn't figure bause ad goes back to '0', see, according to our gregorian calendar. so i'm going to put it on the board for the sake of so latin words - anno domini. now that's latin, it's not hebrew or greek and from anno of course, we get our word -annual. and the other word, annual and - oh now it escapes me. but anyhow, it all comes from the latin word. and then domini merely means master or lordso. ad stands for the 'year of our lord,' which on the gregorian calendar is '0'. so from the year '0', everything back thi way of course, we refer to as 'before christ'; everything on this side we refer to as 'the year of our lord' or ad. now then thanks to the powers that be and archaeology and so forth, they've got to get christ out of the picture they've changed these nomenclatures from bc - or before christ - to bce. everything on this side instead of referring to the 'year of our lord', they now refer to the common era or just ce. now where they get common era, i don't know, but this is what they are now doing. so now they have taken out any reference to christ and they refer to everything we call bc as 'before the common era', which is here. or the common era, which is everything from on here. so as i told one of our guides in israel ontime, you know, isn't it amazing what people will do to just push god out of the picture? that's all they're trying to do. and instead of recognizing that even our calendars arbased on christ's birth, they push that out of men's thinking and change to a word that means nothing, that i can see. common era? what's that got to with it? but, they could come up with i guess that still had a reference to the letter 'c'. and so, be aware of these things, that our normal approach is before christ, back in the old testament times and then ad stands for the 'year of our lord'. now i'm emphasizing it because i can remember the time when i didn't know. i could never figure t what ad stood for. but, it's the two latin words that just simply means the 'year of our lord.' well, now i've covered that. and that saves one letter i won't have to write because hopefully, the lady will be listening when the program comes on. all right, now then way back in 4004 bc. going back from the time of christ's birth at bethlehem to thereation of adam, 4004 bc. all right, then adam's race and that whole covered a period of 1600 years. now i always tell people, this is in round figures. it may not be to the exact year, but nevertheless, in round yea terms so that it's easier to remember, that the flood took place at 2400 bc, 2400 years before christ. or, 1600 years after adam, we have noah's flood. now i think it's worthy of mention that this whole 2000 years of human histor is recorded biblically in the first 11 chapters. that's all. just the first 11 chapters of genesis, cover that whole 1600 year period of time, from the creation of adam, until that whole generation was destroyed with noah's flood. all right, then from the time of noah's flood until the next event in biblical history, which was that is only 200 years. we've got 200 years between, now again this is in round figures remember, for ease of remembering. and so from the flood, until the tower of babel, another 200 year segment of time, or now we are at 2200 bc, the toweof babel. the tower of babel, as you all know the story, the nations made their appearance and god separated them by virtue of the confion of languages and so forth. all right, then another 200 years of time goes by and as a result of the false religions, the pagan religions, the idolatry that came in at the tower of babel, god now has to do something totally different and he lets this human race coming from adam, just flow like a river. and out of that river of humanity, with the call of one man, have the appearance of the nation of israel. the jew. and that covers everything then from genesis chapter 12 until we go clear into the book of acts, where god is dealing with jew only, with some ceptions, but very, very few. and so everything from genesis chapter 12 and the abrahamic covenant is dealing with the nation of israel. giving them the la the temple, with the idea that one day god would funnel them back into that filthy, ungodly, river of humanity and bring them a knowledge of the god of abraham, isaac, and jacob. that was noble plan of god in his sovereignty. of course, we know that it didn't work because israel didn't believe it but anyway, time-wise now, we go from 2000 years to e testament history at 1000 bc and that of course, is the appearance of king david and then solomon his son. and solomon of course, builds the first temple. that is all within a few years of000 bc. five hundred years before that, we had moses and moses of course, gave israel the law. so now 1500 years bc, now i guess i'd better put the cross up here and that goes 29 ad, but that everody knows. all right, so from the time of christ's first advent, back to king david and solomon and the building of the temple is again about 1000 years. now then, the glorious temple of solomon was only on the scene about our reckoning of time that's a long time, but over a time span of 2000 years, that's not very long. and when you realize that the solomon temple as we normally think of it, or the first temple, it was glorious. it was beautiful. it washat, 40 years in the making, for building it? and it was one of the wonders of the ancient world. and yet, it only world. and yet, it only stood about 350 or 360 years and then in 606 bc, and this is the reason i bring it out, because this is another important time in history. i'll have to come out like this. down in here, now after the, well it'd be about here i guess. shortly after the temple was built, a matter of 400 years, nebuchadnezzar comes in, in 606 bc and the babylonian empire destroys and israel goes into captivity. and you all know abouthe babylonian captivity. now the reason i like to bring out the babylonian captivity is because again, it points up a fact of history that i think most people totally overlook and that is that common to the activities of those conquering empires, they literally emptied the land of israel of most of the jews. not all of them, t most of them. took them out to the east to babylon. and then 70 years later, the next empire, the medes and persians, the king cyrus, gave them the degree th the jews were now free to go back to their homend, back to jerusalem and they also of course, had the permission to rebuild their temple. but, now here's where history comes in that you're going to pick up when we get into the jews that were out there in babylon, did not go back to palestine, or to jerusalem, or the land of israel. only 44000 out of sever million. what happened to the rest of them? well, they got comfortable out there in the gentile world. they came astute at banking and business, and so the jews who had been out in babylon, began to migrate to every corner of the then known world. now why am i making the point? because you see, now you can turn in your bible with me, if you will, come back to acts chapter 2 because if you don't know history, then this doesn't make much sense. but if you realize that the jews from 606 bc, had now been migrating all over the theknown world and wherever there was a city of any population of note, jews established and what-have-you. everywhere. roughout the whole roman empire. all right, now you see, that makes see then, when you read acts chapter 2, when you come down to verse 5 and unless you know this it wouldn't make sense. acts chapter 2 verse 5, "and there were (now for this feast of pentecost,).there were dwelling at jerusalem, jews (see, not jews and gentiles).jews and these jews were devout men (they were keepers of the law and temple worship and where had they come from?) out of every nation under heaven." see? now how did they get into every nation under heaven? because when they instead of going back to jerusalem, they scattered throughout the then known world. now, the other thing i like to point up on this same basis, a little later on in this book of acts, we come to the apostle paul who begins his missionary journeys throughout first, asia minor, d then over to greece and finally to rome. and every place the apostle goes, what does he find? jews and synagogues. see? now they've been out there for already several hundred years, because those jews in the babylonian captivity, never chose to go back to the land of israel, they migrated into all these other areas of the then known world. now you see how history has to be understood, otherwise, this verse - well what does it mean that they were from every nation under heaven? i thought they came from ralestine, or what we call the land of palestine, that neck of land between the jordan valley and the mediterranean. well, they have been out there ever them captive in 606 bc. all right, then another reason i use 606 bc is because jesus spoke of it as the beginning of the 'times of the gentiles.' and what he meant by that was, that from this pointing time, 606 bchen the temple was destroyed by nebuchadnezzar, all the way up until we have the second coming of christ, jerusalem, for the most part has been under the heavy boot of gentile armies. all the way up since 606 bc, the land of israel has been under one gentile power after another. now of course, lately, we feel that they are more or less a sovereign state, but if you know anything about the land of israel, they're anything but. they are still under the heavy hand of the un and the united states government and they're not as free as we'd when the anti-christ comes in and sets up his rule and reign from the temple then of course, they will surely be back under the ot of the gentile armies. so, always remember that beginning with 606 bc when nebuchadnezzar came to jerusalem, besieged it, destroyed it and destroyed the temple, took israel captive; only a few came back. and then by 400 bc, i'm not going to be able to get all this in, but 4 bc we have the restored temple built by ezra and nehemiah. d that was the temple that was in jerusalem when jesus makes his appearance at his first coming. it was a restored temple and ezra and nehemiah with the limited resources that they had, they couldn't make a beautiful temple like solomon did, but then old king herod who wasn't even build. king herod was just known as a tremendous builder in the antiquity. so king herod took it upon himself to make the temple on mount moriah once again a wonder of the ancient world. and so he started with that little ramshackle temple of ezra and nehemiah, remodeled it. enlarged it. and of course, made it the beautiful temple complex then that was there when chrisbegan his earthly ministry. and that temple then in turn was destroyed in 70 ad once again, that beautiful temple was destroyed by the roman general titus. and that time, once again, let's see, where can i put this? i suppose out around here, 70 ad, and once again the jews were sent out into a compte dispersion. a few of course, stayed in jerusalem in the areas of israel, but for the most again sent out into every nation under heaven. that would be in 70 ad. now, shortly before that of course, and after the original day of pentecost, when israel was no longer going to believe that jesus was the christ, god sent them back into the mainstream of humaty, not now to be the evangelists but simply to be that wandering jew, that nation of people, who were steeped in spiritual blindness and unbelief and now god is gog to begin to do something totally different. and i usually mark it with parentheses and that is the out-calling of the body of christ, which we call the church age. now, at is a pauline revelation and so that is going to prepare the world then for the next event on god's calendar and that is the rapture or the out-calling of the church, since this is all a rauline revelation, it has nothing to do with old testament prophecy, it has nothing to do with the nation of israel. consequently it has to be taken out of the way before god can pick up with the nation of israel and bring out that final seven years, which of course, scripture always divides 3 and 3 and the appearance of the anti-christ. now i know i've got a lot of scribbling out here, but hopefully it will make some sense if you can begin to just put it down on paper yourself. and this is why i like to repeat it. i wish people could just get to the place where they could set down with a sheet of paper, draw a line across it and then begin to unfold all these historical events. the easiest way to witness that i can possible think of because folks have to understand that all of these things led up to the through the crucifixion of christ, israel continued to reject it and god then raised up that apole of the gentiles, the apostle paul, whom we're going to be looking at now in our next half-hour as we go back into ephesians. and so, paul becomes the apostle of the gentiles. he becomes the spokesman, if you want to call it that, for god now during this period of time. and this is were so many people are missing it. everything from genesis 1 up until the conversion of saul of tarsus is predominately god dealing with israel. and that's obvious. and see, i guess nothing gets my hackles up more than whe somebody will call or write and say, well now wait a by what paul says, i'm going to go by whajesus says because what jesus says is in the bible and if the bible says it then i gotten to the place when i gea response like that i say, 'oh okay. so you're going to do what the bible says?' 'absolutely.' okay, now turn with me and you'll see what i mean. i say, "all right, let's go back to leviticus chapter 5. and then you're still going to sit there and tell me you do what the bible says?' see this is where it gets ridiculous. leviticus chapter 5, and this is just one example. i could stand here all afternoon and give you example after example. you can't do what the bible says all the time because not everything that the bible says is for us. but most of it is really written for the nation of israel. what the bible says for us, you'd better confine yourself to romans through hebrews. in fact, even hebrews is written primarily to jews, so romans through philemon. all right now look what i say when somebody says, 'oh, i do what the bible says.' i say, 'okay, look at leviticus chapter 5 and a soul (or a person) touch any unclean thing whether it be a carcass of an unclean beast a carcass of unclean cattle or the carcass of unclean creeping things, and if it be hidden from him, he also shall be unclean and guilty." now you say, well i'll never touch a dead cow, i'll never touch a dead animal.' hey this is anything that's dead. i mean you're out mowing your lawn and you see a dead bird there, you're not going to grind it up with your lawn mower, what are you going to do? you're going to pick it up and put it in the trashcan. you've touched something dead, you see that? all right, now let's read on. according to what the bible says, "if he's going to touch anything that he shall be defiled and he's guilty, then (you come all the way down to verse 6, the only way he can over come that situation is) he offering unto the lord for his sin, which he hath sinn." now how many people are going to do that? well, if they've got a brain in their head, nobody. because this isn't for us today, this was israel under the law. see? my goodness if i had to go back to the temple in jerusalem every time i touched a dead animal, i'd be spending most of my time on oveeas flights. but we don't, see? we're not under that kind of a law. and this is just one example. over and over the old testament gives instruions that don't apply to us. it'd be ridiculous if you tried to keep all this. but the bible said it. well of course it did, it said it to israel, under the law. and so here is where it becomes so appropriate then to recognize that the apostle paul is the gentile apostle. the apostle paul as gentiles in the church age and all we can do with our old testament is use it for building blocks of learning. see, and this is what paul said. now let me show you another verse on that same line. come back to romans. romans. i think it's chapter 15. romans chapter 15 verse 4. romans 15 verse 4. now i promise my listeners when they call, okay, i'll wait until everybody in the studio finds it and then i know that you can. all got it? romans 15 verse 4, "for whatsoever things were written aforetime, that is in the old testament were written for our learning." not for our doctrine but "for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope." all right, now i've only got a after the church age is complete and we feel we're getting very, very close, since it is complete insulated from everything written to the nation of israel under prophecy, we feel that it has to be taken out and then the next great event on human history will be the appearance of the anti-christ. the seven years of tribulation. d don't forget that that's exactly according to god's timetable coming all the way from daniel. and then at the end of the seven years of tribulation, christ will return at what we call the second coming. and then, as soon as he sets up his kingdom, there with his capital in jerusalem we enter into that 1000 year, what we call the millennial reign of christ and when it ends, of christ and when it ends, we'll go into eternity. now that is basically the genesis to revelion. and when you've got that understood, you've got the battlehree-fourth's won. announcer thank you for watching through the bible with les feldick, if you would like more information about the les feldick ministries, or about this program, write to: les feldick ministries, route 1, box 760, kinta, oklahoma 74552. that's route 1, box 760, kinta, oklahoma 74552. through the bible is viewer announcer: the following is a paid announcement for the international fellowship of christians and jews. announcer: you're jewish. one of god's chosen people. a remnant of israel isolated in a distant land. you've managed to survive the holocaust, survive communism and now most of your $20 monthly pension must pay for medicine with only a few dollars left for food or electricity you're old and you're alone, you're left with nothing t painful memories and you wonder, does anyone care? (speaking russian) i wish god would be merciful and take me because it is better to die than to live like this. shalom. i'm rabbi yechiel eckstein of the international fellowship of christians and jews. i'm standing here in the ukraine in the former soviet union in an area called a shtetl. an old jewish village. i'd like to show what happened to the jewish community in the past but even more importantly i would like to show you what the jewish community is like today in the former soviet union. i think you will be surprised. announcer: a 100 years ago russia was the center of the jewish world living there. although russia's largest ethnic group, most lived in poverty and persecution. then came the bolshevik revolution. hoffman: the soviets systematically destroyed any kind of base for religious affiliation. they closed synagogues. they closed jewish schools, sent rabbis and teachers to jail and prison. and tried to convert everyone to their brand of materialist atheism. announcer: then came the nazis. between 1941 and 1945 soviet jews were savagely persecuted. subjected to every possible pain and humiliation and murdered in mass executions. eckstein: this is babiyar outside of kiev here in the ukraine. one of hundreds of killing fields from world war ii's holocaust throughout the former soviet union. there is a traditional memorial prayer of the dead that is recited site. (speaking hebrew) lord full of mercy, remember those who died here. (singing hebrew) it was here in 1941 days over a hundred thousand jews were killed here by the nazis. were all brought to babiyar and they were all everyone, and then they were killed. you can' you can't even imagine, a lot of people can't imagine. announcer: those who managed to survive the then suffered the post world war ii persecution, indoctrination and anti- semitism of the communists. jews were forbidden to practice their faith education and denied jobs. soviet people who were encouraged to roam the streets to find jews so that they could ridicule and beat them. hoffman: the elderly jews were victimized throughout this century. and now tragically, by the collapse of the soviet system itself. right now, sacrifices are the order of the day. governments don't have enough money to maintain social services. they are not paying pensions on time. today an elderly person has to get along in ukraine on about $20 a month. and half of that has to go for rent and utilities. eckstein: this is bela. she lost her entire family in world war ii, in the holocaust, all 13 members of her family were lost. today's wednesday and she tells me the last time she had a meal was sunday. she is elderly. she is alone. and she has no hope other than the hope we can bring hoffman: the food box is our most basic form of aid. it has a nber of basic commodities in it such as flour, rice, sugar, canned fish, cooking oil and a few other items. this box is designed as a diet supplement. when the funds are available we would like to be able to provide a box on a monthly basis to the tens of thousands of those who are in need. unfortunately, we are only able to deliver these boxes about two or three times a year to most of the needy. eckstein: these people have been waiting here all morning to receive their box of food that will help them through the month. they vitally need this to augment their diet. and we can make that possible for them. most of us can help with a box for $15 that will help these people for a month. won't you do that? won't you help these poor jews? donor: these people are to help them or they are going to starve to death. eckstein: in addition to the food boxes we provide hot meals three times a week to those jews here in the former soviet union who are in need. your gift of $50 will help one person with a hot meal three times a week in addition to the monthly box. or perhaps you can do more. perhaps you can help more than one jew and for more than one month. won't you consider it? donor: it's their life, it's whether or not they get the next meal. it's absolutely vital to their life bod that they be helped. eckstein: it's a scriptural mandate incumbent upon all of us that we extend help to those less fortunate than ourselves. this is made amply clear in the hebrew bible and b jesus in the new testament as well. he stressed is obligation in the parable of the "good samaritan" and in other places at it's our responsibility need. how much more so tthe children of israel? bela: whout the food baskets and the hot meals i would starve. it would be like it was for my father when the nazis captured him and starved him to death. announcer: living on ridiculously low pensions of $15 $25 per month. they go without food, medicine and the bare essentials of life. but through "isaiah 58" you can change that. $15 will provide a food box packed full of staples to help them through the month. joining our boa-month club will provide a food box every month to an elderly jew who desperately needs it the most. for $50 you willrovide three hot meals a week for a month in addition to a food box. what a blessing you can be to a jew who has suffered so much. what a witness you can be to the love of god for the scattered remnant of his people. genesis 12, "i will bless those who bless you and i will curse those who curse you". if you trace the pages of world histy you will find that every man and every nation that blessed israel, god blessed that man and nation. and every man and nation that cursed israel god cursed that man and nation. eckstein: i founded the international fellowship of christians and jews in 1983 and we're based in chicago. i really did so because i felt that there was a need and continues to be a need for a bonding between christians and jews. jews facilitating the rescue in china and sudan of christians who are trying to assert their rights to their faith. and we provide christians bless the jewish people and israel by helping jews from the former soviet union, helping them with their food and medical needs. this ithe ministry. christians and jews. (speaking russian) needy jew: my husband and i wake up rly in the morning each day before 6am to be the first ones on the street to collect empty bottles. donor: there was a time in their life when they were successful, they were good responsible citizens and you know in a wink of an eye that was taken away from them. russian jew: inhe current economic conditions anyone to buy the bottles but i can wake up early. i can work hard. it is very difficult but i am not lazy. hoffman: from day to day the elderly don't have any idea what things are going to cost. they have to live on a fixed pension but prices keep changing. prices keep rising. this takes a terrible toll on the health, on the morale, on the general physical well being of the elderly. shengl: it is very difficult to live on the pension they give. it is not enough to live on. i have received a warning that they will cut off my electricity. i have no money so they will just have to cut it off. (speaking russian) eckstein: i am here with chava. chava hato make a decision that i wouldn't wish on anyone and she has to make it (speaking russian) chava: i must take my medicines but it takes the biggest part of my psion. i must pay for all of these medicines. for my lungs, my heart and my foot. eckstein: chava has to decide between these pills to help her breathe because she has bronchitis, between that and food. as you can see she is bed ridden and she has a very bad heart ndition. and this medicine alone keeps her able to breathe and it costs one third o her monthly pension. chava: after i pay for all of my medicines i have no money for food or for anything else. eckstein: we try to hel people like chava not have to make that kind of decision. and so we bring her food. we try to provide people like chava a package once a month to help week. and, secondly the meals on wheels program that brings chava and people like her a hot meal three times a week. the more funds that are available, the more hot meals brought to her, more packages and the more people like chava will be able to be served as well. announcer: the nternational fellowship of christians and jews has launched "isaiah 58" to mobilize christians to join their jewish brothers and sisters. dono i just have to say that as a gentile i am so blessed to be a part of helping the jewish people in this country. it is the most wonderful experience that has every happened to me. announcer: together, we a fulfilling the divine call to provide aid and comfort to over 50000 jews living in shocking poverty in the former soviet union. donor: so much joy could be brought for so little. could realize how much could be accomplished with just so little, just a little bit of giving, it would be so unreal. announcer: an especially dangerous one. as christians, we are not going to have any excuse if we just stand idly byatching history repeat itself. bela: the people in ukraine who don't like jewish who hate jewish people they call us zhid. it is like in america. black people are called niger. it's like that, it's the same. eckstein: the bible teaches us in isaiah chapter 58 (speaking hebrew) "from your flesh and blo you shall not avert your eyes". my friends, we dare not avert our eyes from seeing the suffering and the pain of the jews in the former soviet union and knowing that we could do something about it. donor: i'm a street boy. i left home when i was 12 years old. and i know pain when i see it when i look at people's eyes in the street and i see a lot of pain there. hoffman: we see in every jew we meet here a potential lost relative. and it increases our motivation to want to help them because we think, "there for grace of god go i". these people need to be fed hot meals. is not enough. eckstein: imagine what it would be like not to have food. to be home bound. not to have any family members that you can turn to and suddenly three times a week someone comes in, an angel, comes in with food. this is what we call in the states the meals on wheels program that is administered throughout the former soviet union thanks to your help. and thanks to volunteers who give of themselves and their time and of their energy and their love to help the elderly jews who have no one else to help them. donor: the people that are doing this program are just touching the surface when they tell you how wonderful it is to be able to feed the hungry. because that's what we are doing, we're literally feeding the hungry. eckstein: your gift of $50 with a hot meal three times monthly box. shgl: there is no way that i could live without this food. it is like the angels arriving every time this food arrives. eckstein: this is shengl. and as you can see she just received her food for today and made a difference in the lives of these people, in the lives also, of the jewish communities now reviving, now coming back to life in the former soviet union. >> well, it depends on what the problem is. if the problem is credit card fraud, someone used your existing credit card number or cloned your card, yeah, the bank will take care of that. but that's just one part of the problem of identity theft. there's a much broader problem, and that is when someone steals your identity entirely. they've got your i.d., they've got your social security number, they apply for these accounts in your name. you don't even know it's happening. you may not figure it out until you get a call from a bill collector, a credit card company that says you're past due on a credit card that you don't even know you had. >> so when you're on your own, you're kind of just blind at this is happening 'cause there's no one out there looking out for you. >> that's exactly right. you know, we have our jobs, we have our family, we have our life. do you want to take hours out of your day, maybe for days and figure out how to correct the problems that the identity thief caused? if you were gonna do all that, i don't know how much time it would take or even where you would begin to do that. you don't have the technology to do that. >> so, in general, the advic you would give -- what can we do to protect ourselves?
