averaging 100 voters an hour, and there has been a steady stream all morning. this is the first time that the state's primary election is in march instead of may and puts more importance on north carolina's primary, and that's why donald trump, bernie sanders, and hillary clinton were all in our area yesterday. the voters told me because there are such varying views on the issues, it would be more important for them to come vote today. >> coming off the economic crisis in 2008, it's important to make sure that ourselves and our children are taken care of in the long run. >> reporter: nearly 700,000 people voted early across the state which is 10.5% of registered voters, significantly more than the last presidential primaries in 2012. all voting precincts in the state are tonight. stay with channel 9 throughout the evening. we'll have election results on come in. liz foster, channel 9, eyewitness news. >> and thank you, liz. channel 9 is your complete source for the primary election. watch eyewitness news at 10:00 and 11:00 as the votes are tallied, and follow us on facebook and twitter. we are constantly updating those assailants as well. and patrick cannon cast a ballot during early voting in 2012 which he is not allowed to do because of his qoiks felony corruption charges. we have a live look at the courthouse with a look at what we can expect to see. >> reporter: yeah, john, and cannon is still serving time, but he will be here for an appearance tomorrow afternoon. it was just about two years ago that patrick cannon, who was arrested on the corruption charged that rocked the city of charlotte and pleaded guilty to accepting bribes from fbi agency under cover in exchange for political favors. but the reason he is coming back here to charlotte is because of a vote he cast before he was sentenced to prison. he went to an early voting site and cast a ballot even though he lost his right to vote because of the conviction. the vote was ruled illegal and a grand jury indicted him on voter fraud and he is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow. but legal expert james say it could be resolved tomorrow. >> it may be that they agreed to plead to probation or a misdemeanor. >> reporter: now, we just checked with the mecklenburg they don't have patrick cannon back in custody yet. we'll be watching that and more on what could happen in court tomorrow on eyewitness news today starting at 5:00. live at the mecklenburg county courthouse, i'm jim bradley, channel 9, eyewitness news. a jury selection is under way for the charlotte father charged with murder in the death of his 6-month-old daughter. police were called out on 2012. 6-month-old kiani was not breathing and rushed to the hospital. she died in her injuries including fractures to her skull and ribs. her father, todd broderick, is representing himself. officials are on the scene of a double murder on claremont. officials say that someone forced their way into the home. the couple had a 10-year-old daughter. >> reporter: john, they have a lot of investigators out here. we've seen more than half a crime scene, to the only going inside and out of the house and you can see one up on the front porch but out in the yard looking for a flew as to what happened near claremont. take a look at this video. we were here early this morning. the front door that you can see there appears to be forced open prior to the shooting deaths of mark wilson and deidre ramseur. we were there as they found a cell phone and quickly placed that into evidence. the couple has a 10-year-old daughter who was not here at the time of the killings. >> any time you have a child involved in it and they lost their parents, she has to grow up with out them. >> reporter: i had a chance to talk with one of the victim's brothers, and he tells me that he not only had a good job but by what happened out of here, and investigators say they expect to be out here collecting evidence for most of the day. dave faherty, channel 9, eyewitness news. friday will be one year since there was a change to improve people's health. and a north carolina sold iev getting a new home after suffering an injury in combat. and you want to go to cuba? year since it was pushed up to march. the attention is not likely going to go away any time soon. no matter who becomes the nominee, north carolina will be a swing state in november. and frontrunner donald trump visited yesterday but it was marked by the arrest of six protesters. there were clashes between supporters and opponents before he took the stage, and we saw one man wrestled to the ground by police. >> oh, they are just trying to bully the bernie sanders crap on me. i ain't gonna take it. >> [bleep]. >> others like this bernie sanders supporter never made it in the event. he used his cell phone to record the moment he was turned away, and many people were turned away because of a lack of space. the protests were mostly cast his ballot. he is being challenged for governor assignments. they are prepared to leave the school district unless cms guarantees students will be sent to neighborhood schools. they formed a task force to find out what parents want and what the town just do to form an independent district. >> absolutely in favor of the separation from charlotte- mecklenburg schools if they don't listen to what we say. >> the resolution mentions three solutions including matthews creating its own district or breaking cms into three districts, north, middle, and southern mecklenburg. cornelius, and davidson have passed resolutions asking the district to make sure every child in their respective town has a seat in a neighborhood school. new at noon, channel 9 has video from the scene of a deadly crash in stanly county involving a motorcycle. we reported this at oakridge and peachtree. troopers say that the crash happened before 8:30 in front of a local daycare. we're asking for more information on who you the crash happened and who was killed. we will update you when we get that information on wsoctv.com. and a double shooting that left one person dead near the logan family resource center. officers kept our crews back as they investigated. this about a block away at lincoln street and south avenue. the police chief said there was no indication this had anything a former trooper faces 20 years in prison after shooting an unarmed man at a gas station. the gas cam video shows sean groubert shooting levar jones in 2014. the trial was due to start but groubert entered a plea. lightning near ballantyne hit a home and struck the furnace starting the fire. >> i live one street over and by the time i crossed through the neighbor's yard and got hire, flames were coming through the roof. several people had to find new places to stay. >> the storms zipped through really fast. 74 in charlotte and salisbury and hickory and mountains, close to 60. we had cloud cover in the mountains this morning and still pushing out. the process will continue with the members in the mountains will continue to warm up this afternoon. the pollen count didn't change a whole lot. tree pollen came down slightly due to the rain yesterday and will likely buildup much more with the rain yesterday and tomorrow, and the mold count is moderate. the oak, pipe, and birch trees are all getting in on the act, and the yellow pollen out there, that will be building up much more. you are heading out late in the day today for the polls that are open until 7:30 and temperatures falling back in the low to mid-70s, and 70 by 11:00, so we'll stay warm through the evening and fall this time of year, 62. we are well above that to start the work week as temperatures soar in the low 80s tomorrow, and 83 would tie the record for the date in 1945 and then we cool things down progressively into the weekend. we'll see a good change for the weekend plans, and it will likely include a rain chance for saturday. but in the short term, we stay dry as we look ahead for a couple of cold fronts. but they are moisture starved. a big storm system in the upper midwest, rough weather for them today and tomorrow, but light rain in the mountains in the morning and a few clouds in the afternoon, and happened that is likely that we will stay dry and assed front pushes through, it won't cool us down that much into tomorrow. cool or thursday and look at what it does. the front will sweep through and dries us out big time. we're taking the rain chance anded in is great and we'll see things moderate for the weekend as we really
