Right now deputies are about to search the home to see if there are any more weapons inside. A deputy was serving a warrant against berry for failing to appear in court on a weapons charge. They say hildebrand tried to run away and thats when he fired the shot. The deputy returned fire and shot him in the hand. Hes now at the hospital. All new at 6 00, were learning more about why a Cabarrus County teen was charged with sexually exploiting a minor. Authorities arrested paul warner last month. He was accused of making false bomb threats and claiming to support isis and having weapons at northwest cabarrus high school. After his arrest, police searched his home. They found a video file that the teen received showing a a sexual act. Warner is still in jail tonight. There was a delay today in extraditing a man accused in a deadly hit and run in chester county. Stevie had to stay in issue. They said once that was taken care of, they would be able to take him into custody for the deadly crash that killed flora ellenburg on i77. Troopers said tips from the down. Were getting details tonight about a shocking murder that happened in kershaw where investigators say robert hypes shot and killed his own mother who was confined to a wheelchair. New documents show she was shot seven times in the head. Eyewitness News Reporter greg suskin spent the day pressing deputies for answers in this case. Arrest warrants say 57year old carolyn was shot with a 22 rifle. The coroner says seven times. Her body was found in a bed room hallway of her home on she was a double amputee and was wheelchair bound. Deputies believe her son killed her then later went to her bank and asked about her account there. Sheriff spokesman Doug Garfield says investors are still learning about the family when we checked around yesterday, the mother and son who live together were unknown to their neighbors. Dont know how long theyve been living in the community. Were going to talk to Family Members and get more background. Reporter deputies wouldnt provide copies of search warrants but say some of the dna evidence is being sent to sled. People spent a lot of time in that house. Gathered some evidence. We got to process all of that. Bar field wouldnt say what the evidence was but the coroner says there didnt appear to be any sign of a struggle. She was the niece of the oak Bureau Police chief. Evidence has been sent to a state crime lab. He wouldnt say if they think someone killed her. Deputies reveal theyre dealing with a surge of heroin related crimes and they outline the steps theyre taking to try to combat the epidemic. In the past week, they arrested heroin. Deputies arrested michael con roy last friday after an 18 yearold woman overdosed on heroin that he gave her. On tuesday, deputies say they stopped harley helms and found in his car. Just yesterday they arrested Ashley Henson after they say he had heroin near new salem elementary school. The Sheriffs Office is implementing new tactics to combat the problem. Deputies are under going a training that reverses a heroin overdose for a short time. The officers are hoping to have patrol officers equipped with the drug by early march. The sheriff plans to equip patrol cars with shark containers to allow the safe collection of disposal of used syringes. Duke energy has a green light to start removing water from the coal ash ponds at the river bend steam station at Mountain Island lake. The water will be pumped right into the lake. And thats the Drinking Water supply for thousands in the charlotte area. Eyewitness News Reporter tina terry spoke with neighbors who arent comfortable with that idea. The process is called de watering. The coal ash that the company has to remove is intermingled do is separate the two and push the water out into the lake here. Today we asked officials how they plan to do that safely. Many of the residents in the community are happy the ash is being removed. John was happy to hear about the state mandated clean up of coal ash. But hes concerned about the process that requires duke energy to push water in the basins into his lake. Ipading board on the lake i paddle board on the lake and swim in the lake. Duke has been allowed to remove a small amount of water from the surface of the basins weekly to. Day the state issued a new stricter permit allowing duke energy to remove water well beneath the surface water thats mixed with coal ash. The new permit stipulates how that work should be done. Were continuing to review the permit right now. And our experts are working through that process. Build a Water Treatment system at the sight. And that Water Treatment system will treat the water thats mixed with the ash in the basins before we return it to Mountain Island lake. State leaders are calling the new permit the most stringent in the nation. Requiring routine sampling of water released into the lake and more stringent over sight by the state. Hes hoping its enough to protect him, his family, and thousands of others who live here. I talked to the catawba river keeper over the phone today and he said that this new permit is a step in the right direction, he says it has a lot of better standards to help protect the lake. Some new numbers show exactly how much money the record breaking Powerball Jackpot brought in for North Carolina. State lottery leaders are saying that during the two months that the powerball climbed to 1. 6 billion, stores sold 79 million more dollars in tickets than originally anticipated. They also revealed that powerball increased the lottery share for education by 30 million. But in a channel 9 investigation, we found that none of that money will be going to fund new teachers in North Carolina. The proceeds are used to hire noninstructional staff like bus drivers and custodians. The change was part of the most lawmakers say they didnt want to base teacher funding on something as variable as the lottery.
