pieces of evidence. ### new this morning... police are investigating two attempted armed robberies in danville. it happened along the 3- thousand block of riverside drive just before 6:30 wednesday. a pittsylvania county woman says a man wearing a ski mask came up with a gun... and demanded money. police say she was grabbed from behind... and hit with the gun... before she ran away. the suspect also took off. the woman was treated at the hospital... and is expected to be o-k. about an hour later... officers responded to the parking lot of the golden coral on holt garrison parkway. police say an armed man in a hoodie... came up to two people. he demanded money... and took off with cash. no word on if the two incidents are related. # new this morning... the class j-611 steam locomotive is night... state impala that was driving recklessly in franklin county. police say the car took off... crossed into roanoke county where it hit another vehicle causing it to flip and catch on fire. five people were in the car... 4 are recovering in the hospital. officers say the driver fled the scene on foot. they believe he is armed. police k-9's and virginia state police aviation are assisting in the search for the suspect. charges are pending.### a standoff that's been going on for more than a month... at an oregon wildlife refuge... could be ending this morning. the final four activists inside say later today... they'll leave their weapons behind... and surrender. police have been surrounding them all night. and new developments overnight... cliven bundy the father of wildlife refuge occupation leader ammon bundy... was arrested after flying into the portland airport. he faces a conspiracy charge to interfere with a federal officer -- the same charge his two sons are facing. bundy was at the center of a standoff in nevada with federal officials in 2014 over use a scary experience for one mother and her 10-year-old son after they were tied up at gunpoint inside their stafford county home. the men broke into the back of their house early wednesday morning. wearing ski masks and armed with handguns the men said if they didn't follow orders they would be killed. they tied up the woman and her son with zip ties before they began to rummage through the home. now that mom is scared to be at home because she's worried the men will come back. danielle lucas:"i don't know if they used there feet or what they used but this is where they got in "butted "held guns to us and said if we didn't do what they told us, they'd kill us." deputies believe they were targeted based on a third person who lives at the home who may be connected to drug activity.### new this morning.. lawyers involved in jesse matthew's capital murder case made an unexpected appearance in court wednesday. the albemarle county commonwealth's attorney... and capital defender both spoke quietly with the judge. an order was entered into the additional thirty days to file a change of venue motion.... if they plan to ask for one. matthew is accused of abducting and murdering university of virginia student -- hannah graham--- in september of 2014. he is charged with capital murder... and could face the death penalty if convicted. # the father of 13- year-old nicole lovell opens up to doctor phil about his daughter's social media activity and struggles with bullying. david lovell told doctor phil that the last time he saw his daughter was december 19-th. she disappeared nearly six weeks later on january 27-th. lovell told doctor phil that he puts a lot of blame on himself and speculated on any possible motives suspects david eisenhauer and natalie keepers could have. david lovell, nicole lovell's father - "a girl with self- esteem issues anyway somebody told her some good social but right now... she just wants to grieve the loss of her daughter. ### the u-s justice department is fed up with the city of ferguson. it filed a 56-page lawsuit... claiming the city continues to violate the rights of african americans --- even after the shooting death of michael brown. federal investigators say some police officers would stop people and arrest them without cause -- and use unreasonable force -- to generate city revenue. the d-o-j spent seven months negotiating with the city -- to reform the police department and court system. but when the deal was submitted to council members for a vote tuesday night, they changed those terms -- by adding seven amendments. loretta lynch/attorney general: "it is extremely unfortunate that the city has chosen to litigate this matter rather than move directly to these remedies and reforms that would have benefited the city and avoided the cost of litigation" the action highlights a period of racial tension...somethi ng many in the city want to move on from. # allowing school security guards to be armed is making its way through the general assembly. the bill passed the education committee on wednesday. the legislation says security guards would have to be retired police officers and get approval from the school board. the virginia citizens defense league thinks permit holders should be allows to carry on school property and believes this bill is a step in that direction. opponents through are concerned. andy goddard/virgini ans for responsible gun laws "if you can find an opening to crack open the door then next year you can add more things and push the door wider." opponents think that even retired officers should go through annual training before being allowed to carry guns on school grounds.### the deadline for federal financial aid forms is coming up. the program provides $150 billion dollars in federal money to more than 13 million students paying for college or career school. filing a fafsa can be complicated... and sometimes overwhelming. the virginia tech director of financial aid says the form has changed over the last few years. there are safeguards to prevent entering wrong information-- with kevin quick's murder. wednesday's testimony centered largely around an s-u-v stolen from quick after his murder. anthony davis testified that he saw one of the suspects scrubbing that s-u-v just days after the killing. we learned in court that items inside had fingerprints from several of the suspects. so far the prosecution has evidence. ### new this morning... police are investigating two incidents in danville wednesday night. the first happened along the 3-thousand block of riverside drive just before 6:30 wednesday. a pittsylvania county woman says a man wearing a ski mask came up with a gun... and demanded money. police say she was grabbed from behind... and hit with the gun... before she ran away. the suspect the woman was treated at the hospital... and is expected to be o-k. about an hour later... officers responded to the parking lot of the golden coral on holt garrison parkway. police say an armed man in a hoodie... came up to two people. he demanded money... and took business to business partnerships. the salem high school football team receives a national honor tonight. the army national guard presents its national ranking trophy to the team as part of the 11th 2014. he is charged with capital murder... and could face the death penalty if convicted. # the father of 13- year-old nicole lovell opens up to doctor phil about his daughter's social media activity and struggles with bullying. david lovell told doctor phil that the last time he saw his daughter was december 19-th. she disappeared nearly six weeks later on january 27-th. lovell told doctor phil 56-page lawsuit... claiming the city continues to violate the rights of african americans --- even after the shooting death of michael brown. federal investigators say some police officers would stop people and arrest them without cause -- and use unreasonable force -- to generate city revenue. the d-o-j spent seven months negotiating with the city -- to reform the police department and court system. but when the deal was submitted to council members for a vote tuesday night, they changed those terms -- by adding seven amendments. loretta lynch/attorney general: "it is extremely unfortunate that the city has chosen to litigate this matter rather than move directly to these remedies and reforms that would have benefited the city and avoided the cost of litigation" the action highlights a period ng many in the city want to move on from. # new this morning.. a bill allowing school security guards to be armed is making its way through the general assembly. the bill passed the education committee on wednesday. the legislation says security guards would have to be retired police officers and get approval from the school board. the virginia citizens defense league thinks you can find an opening to crack open the door then next year you can add more things and push the door wider." opponents think that even retired officers should go through annual training before being allowed to carry guns on school grounds.### the deadline for federal financial aid forms is coming up. the program provides $150 billion dollars in federal money to more than 13 million students paying for college or career school. filing a fafsa can be complicated... the virginia tech director of university scholarships and financial aid says the form has changed over the last few years.
