Police say he was in possession of alcohol when he was arrested five hours later. And the stars are out. We sit down with some of the worlds most influential time at the time 100 gala. When youre at home alone, i catch you doing . What theyre revealing to us about role models, relationships and relaxing. Its wednesday, april 26th, 2017. From nbc news, this is today with matt lauer and savannah guthrie. Good morning. Welcome to today on a wednesday morning. Im not sure we can have that answer for leslie jones to that question. I know. It may be something she has to plead the fifth on. Its always fun to be behind the lets start with a big story. President trump revealing the tax reform plan today. How is it going to change the way you calculate your returns . We have full coverage with Peter Alexander at the white house. Peter, good morning. Reporter good morning. White house aides say todays reveal will be more of a rough draft, an outline of tax priorities and principles. The treasury secretary also the president s top economic adviser expected to roll out the details this afternoon. The proposed slashing of the business tax rates to 15 . That applies to big corporations, small businesses, even to real estate firms like trumps. Aides this morning say the plan is also going to include a increase in deductions americans can claim going higher than the 7300 standard and 12,600 for couples. Also noted, removing the tax br f retirement plans. This morning critics are pouncing on the fact that the public has yet to see the president s own tax returns questioning how President Trump would stand to benefit from his own plan. All right. Peter, thank you. What is the bottom line for you, the market . Jim kramer is the host of mad money. Jim, good to see you. Lets start with the individual. The proposal looks to be the increase in the standard deduction. Is that good for the economy . I think it is. People have more money in their pocket, it tends to mean theyll spend more. Its good news, and it would make it so our tax returns easier to make out. Theres the question of paying for it. Already were seeing some proposals floated. Maybe reducing how much you can deduct from your 401 k, perhaps cushing the mortgage deduction. I think something that americans would hate. Its just the best way we save. Why would you take that away . I guess the idea is what revenue is going down and you have to make up for it somewhere. Later on in life you would do well. This is the great tax break, so lets save money. I think people would not regard it as a tax break because it wouldnt happen up front. The biggest break in terms of business goes to business. Right now the Corporate Tax rate is 35 . Slashing it to 15 . Do most corporations pay 35 . No. The average is about 19 in f. T a lot of retailers, and several industrialers that are big winners, but no. The idea is corporations have more money in their pockets so they plow it back into the economy and create more jobs. Is that likely to happen . I think many of them would buy back more stock and increase dividends. Some job creation. There would be businesses that want to do business here and not overseas. Were not competitive. Its a good idea. Were talking about a huge tax cut, and the question is how you pay for it if at all. If you dont pay for it, in other words, if you dont raise spending or taxes somewhere else, you go into deficit spending. Does that bother you . I have kids. Anybody who has kids or grandchildren, yes, its going to fall on them. I believe if we repatriot the assets from overseas, we get a onetime gain that might be able to make it so the president gets something through. Its viegts we lower our Corporate Taxes, but we dont want to blow a hole in the deficit. Thank you, jim. Thank you, jim. There are some new issues. The white house plans to cut funding for socalled sanctuary cities. Done fighting after its taken a hit from a judge. Reporter good morning. President trump is lashing out at the latest court to block him tweeting just moments ago first the ninth circuit rules against the ban, and now it hits again on sanctuary cities. Both ridiculous rulings. See you in the Supreme Court. It is yet another controversy with that 100day benchmark looming. This morning the Trump Administration is reeling after being dealt a major blow by another federal judge. This time over the white house withholding federal funds from socalled sanctuary cities. Where they limit Police Cooperation with immigration authorities. The judge out of San Francisco calling the the president s january 25th executive order unconstitutional. Late tuesday the white house fired back. The chief of staff saying its the ninth circuit going bananas adding well court at some point. This is the third immigration order stopped by federal courts in the president s first 100 days. As that deadline approaches, a new cloud of controversy over ousted National Security adviser Michael Flynn now facing scrutiny over his foreign business dealings. Personally, i see no data to support the notion that general flynn complied with the law. The House Oversight Committee Says by flynn not disclosing that in 2015 he was paid nearly 34,000 to attend this dinner. And his firm was paid more than half a million to lobby for the turkish government. Before and after it happened, not good enough for congressional leaders. Theyre also questioning the white house this morning turning over information about flynns business ties to congress. The white house has refused to provide this committee with a single piece of paper in response to our bipartisan requests and that is unacceptable. Reporter but the white house insists the Obama Administration was responsible for most of the requested documents including flynns security clearance. Right now to ask the white house to produce documents that were not in the possession of the white house is ridiculous. Reporter the latest questions about flynn adding another layer to the investigation into russias mettling in the u. S. Election. A meeting here at the white house. All u. S. Senators invited to get briefed by top officials about the latest developments out of north korea tonight. All right. Kristen welker, thank you. Ivanka trump is wrapping up her First Official overseas trip as a member of her fathers administration. Defending her fathers record on womens issues. Hallie jackson in berlin for us. She sat down with ivanka trump exclusively. Hallie, good morning. Reporter good morning. Ivanka trump is already looking ahead to her next international trips. Shrugging off the jeers this time around saying after, politics is politics. In berlin, the singe of the spotlight. Ivanka trump interrupted on the International Stage by a hand full of hecklers hissing. Hes been a tremendous champion of supporting families. Reporter at a summit focussed on empowering women. You hear the direction from the audience. Reporter the focus at first on one man, President Trump. His daughter asked to defend him and define her role. Whom are you representing . Your father is the president of the United States . The American People . Or well, certainly not the latter. Reporter trump looking to focus on ways to empower female entrepreneurs. I hope to always be listening and learning, and thats certainly not going to stop, not this decade and not beyond. Reporter you were on the stage with chance your merkel. Theres been talk that she is using your relationship between the two of you to establish a back channel to the president. I think she sees as a woman aligned with her on many issues. And i think she has a great relationship with my father. Reporter in germany her fathers far from popular. The president s controversial travel ban, a stark contrast to germany opening the doors to syrian refugees. Ivanka trump now going further than her father on whether those refugees should be let into the u. S. I think there is a global human narn crisis happening, and we have to solve it. And reporter does that include opening the border to syrian refugees. That has to be part of the discussion, but thats not enough. Reporter talking about expanded child care and calling for bipartisan backing. Im hopeful legislation has put together and obviously im an advocate. Reporter her title, assistant to the president. Her label . Who is considering herself a feminist on the panel . Reporter feminist. And fierce defender of her father. As trump works to refine her role, there are questions about whether her talk on empowering women in the work force will turn into action. Trump says her fathers tax reform rollout will include child care tax breaks. Hallie jackson in berlin, thank you. Heres the story Kristen Welker mentioned. The senate will head to the senate for a class north korea. The u. S. Military has now started moving parts of an antimissile Defense System to a Deployment Site in south korea. The move triggered protests by hundreds of local residents. Also today the u. S. And south korean militaries held a combined firing drill featuring dozens of tanks and fighter jets. Reporter the study found with drivers combining substances, the danger on the road may be more prevalent. Nea admit to using marijuana. They think theyre safer, but it affects reaction time. Thats important when youre driving. Reporter unlike choalcohol, there are no roadside tests for drugs which can impact drivers differently. Multiple for now, finding impaired drivers isnt easy, and the its costing more lives than ever before.
