Also this morning, the times reports that President Trump is looking to shake up the Intelligence Community with a broad review of the spy agencies. Steven feinberg, a billionaire private equity executive is his choice to lead this. Some have expressed concerns about the possibility of the white house having control over americas spies, at the same time that mr. Even if its someone working with the russian government, you assure there is no contact . Absolutely not. Why did you get connected to this story . Excellent question. Ive never been notified by anyone in government, that there is an investigation or im the subject of one. The fbi never contacted you . I never heard from anyone in Law Enforcement at all, including the fbi. They would be bored if they want to look at my emails and transmissions because they wont find anything of this nature. I had no russian clients. I was not talking to anyone i believe b for the russians. Would you testify under oath during an investigation . I would be happy to. I would like any fair, unbiased investigation, to clear the air once and for all. When you hear the story, on the same day that president obama imposed sanctions, the same day that Vladimir Putin vowed retaliation for the sanctions, general flynn called the Russian Ambassador and after that phone call, there was no russian retaliation for those sanctions. Does it smell bad to you . Not as bad as the same exact story ran almost wordforword, from january 20th, the day that donald trump was inaugurated. The same story, with the same lack of proof. Lets talk about general flynn. His role as the National Security adviser. And to matts point here. Youre a longtime operative. You know this stuff. Doesnt this seem strange to you. I dont know what would be strange . That phone call would have happened on that day result would be no retaliation from the russians. I think the russians would like a better relationship with donald trump and the united states. We understand that general flynn committed no crime. But the disclosure of the fact he was monitored by the government, is a crime. Would someone like general flynn picked up the phone without the authority of the president or the president elect at that time . Based on the transcript i read, the purpose of the call was to set up a phone call for the president of the united states. What transcript did you read . I thought it was in the times, that they skirt the question of sanctions, and the purpose of i think it was paraphrased. I dont think it was an actual transcript. Let me ask you whats going on in the white house. The resignation or firing of general flynn. It seems like theres a struggle for power in the west wing. You know all the players. Whats going on . I think seems to be a division between those who are loyal to the president and those who are loyal to the Republican National committee. I generally think that in the newest administration, you should hire as many experienced, capable people, who are supporters of yours and are loyal to donald trump from the beginning. There are rooms in the departments for people who are just republicans. But the leaking coming out of the white house is a manifestation of the fact that people are hired that are not loyal to this president. Is the suggestion that youre making that Reince Priebus is not loyal to the president . The inference would be some of the people he has hired maybe in that position we see a leak in the Washington Post that the president is like a cluely child. That didnt come from steve bannon or Kellyanne Conway or stephen miller. Do you expect more parting of the ways between key players and the you might have some shakeout of the staff. But there are sop Exceptional People there, as well. Is it healthy for the administration to be filled with, as youre suggesting, yes men, people that will not challenge President Trump . In the first month of the trmp presidency, the gop turning their focus to gun control. Joint resolution is passed. The rule was written after the sandy hook massacre in newtown, connecticut, where 20 first graders were among those murdered by a mentally disturbed man. The regulation was finalized in december. It would have added people who get Social Security benefits for mental impairment and deemed unfit to the national bro check database. About 75,000 names. Republicans say that would have violated the Second Amendment rights. This will ensure that disabled citizens, Second Amendment rights are protected. In a series of tweets, the president calls on the newspaper to apologize, and promises to lowlife leakers. Here is a disturbing story. The number of americans killed in traffic accidents increased. More than 40,000 in 2016. Thats up 14 from 2014. And is the biggest twoyear jump in half a century. The National Safety council is calling for charges to state and federal laws, including a ban of all cell phone use for drivers. And mandatory seat belts for every passenger. American Airlines Flight out of charlotte had to head back to the airport after hitting a deer during takeoff. Officials say the plane was leaking fuel after that collision. 44 passengers were on the flight. Luckily, no injuries were reported. Theres been new arrests connected to the murder of the halfbrother of kim jongun. Keir simmons has the latest for us. Reporter a third arrest overnight. Police say this is a man who they believe to be the boyfriend of one of two women arrested. Meanwhile, police confirming to nbc news, they suspect a woman seen at the airport, wearing a distinctive shirt. Wearing a shirt printed with lol, an alleged female assassin. The image taken from surveillance footage. Many believe kim jongnam, the halfbrother of kim jongun was killed in a hit by north korean spies. Now, two women are under arrest. Their connection to the case not clear. A third arrest, a man, announced this morning. North koreas leader, looking grimfaced overnight, attending an event, marking his late fathers birthday. Uncorroborated theories swirling, that kim jongun ordered the halfbrother over a family feud. Theres certain things about what we know about this case that are a bit strange. It would appear that the two women who have been arrested were maybe what are called cutouts. They didnt know what they were doing. Reporter kim jongnam arrived at the kuala lumpur arpd armt around 9 00 a. M. Two women ambushed him. How they allegedly poisoned him is unclear. A toxic spray. A lethal injection. Or other accounts say the poison was administered through a cloth placed on his face. Nam went to an information desk asking for help. 30 minutes later, he was dead, according to accounts in local media. Kim jongnam feared that orders to kill him would be sent from across the river. Now, police are searching for four others, all men, the media say, while a forensic examination is under way. The body may be sent back to north korea, to the very country that may have ordered the execution. And the police tell the news that the two women have been in custody for seven days. Just a caution, not all experts believe this assassination is connected to north korea. Effectively, its still a mystery, guys. Keir simmons on the story. Thank you so much. We have new groundbreaking research to tell you about. A new study shows its possible to predict the risk of autism in some children much earlier than once thought. Heres gabe gutierrez. Reporter this morning, doctors have found a way to take some of the mystery out of autism, detecting the disorder earlier than ever before. It gives hope. Reporter a new study in the journal nature, finds it may be possible to the first year of a childs life. Usually that diagnosis doesnt come until between the ages of 2 and 4. If we detect it based on brain development, we can begin preventions earlier. Reporter researchers like dr. Kelly bodder performed mri brain scans on babies with older siblings with autism. They noticed bigger brains. With that clue, they would predict 80 of the babies that would be diagnosed with autism. They also predicted which would not develop the disorder. But experts say more research is needed. A small set of children were studied with this work. Its repeated with a larger set of children. Looking around and seeing other families and what they can do. And what you cant do. What other letters are on there . Reporter k four boys. Her oldest son was diagnosed with autism when he was 2. It was heartbreaking, for sure. Reporter that meant his brothers were at a higher risk for the disorder. Youre watching every move they make. It was a tough go for the first couple years of their lives. Reporter kellers youngest son was part of a new study, that found no signs of autism in his brain. She says the research could now be a lifechanger. I wish a study like this could have come out 15 years ago and just to think how much further we would have been with our own son. Everybody in you b we feel constrained when we have to give it up after 1 30. So, i can now tell stories for ever and get these results. And everything is done within 12 or 15 minutes. And its perfect. You talk about results. Obviously, results of paternity tests has been one of the staples of your show. Yes. Youre doing it now . Yes. Are you sick of it yet . Maybe ill get away of this thing going . I dont think so. I think every story has its unique quality. And so, when i do these paternity tests, everybody goes through their own stuff. And so, therefore, i can tell these stories. And each story has its own moments. And the best part about it is theres a beginning, theres a middle, theres conflict, theres drama and theres a result. Plenty of conflict. Plenty of drama. Youve been doing this for decades. Youre number one syndicated talk show. The people who write your bay checks own my show. Do you find outrageous the guests get, the better the rating . The dna testing, the lie detectors, those are signature shows. And months like this, sweeps month, those are the themes that work. If we logon to your site, you have casting calls out for people who are serial cheaters, grandmothers who dress too sexy for their age, people wanting to confront a Family Member about their drinking. Are these people legitimate . Or in the age of reality tv, do you think folks are signing up and telling stories to get on your air . I think my people are tame next to the people you cover every day. Think about that. We could bring out lie detector tests for the people you have to cover every day. Whats the craziest moment on your show . Probably the most surprising moment was when, im doing a dna test. This woman is accusing a guy of being father of her twins. And i never know the answer, the result, until i open up the envelope. And thats intentional, right . I never did it, i said, i dont want to know. I open up the envelope. And hes the father of one but not the other. And that was impossible to me at the time. Until my staff told me that with fraternal twins, you can have two fathers, its a million to one shot. Its happened twice on my show. Whose reaction is more stunned when that happens . Yours or the fathers . Everybody who saw that moment was absolutely startled. You have said the older you get, the younger your audience gets, you think . Yeah. Its crazy. The researchers, ill tell you. One political researcher, frank luntz. Pollster. Came up to me and said, he uses my show as an introduction to his focus groups on how people can change their minds after they see a particular he thinks the way i interview my guests, the way i talk to my guests, that all of a sudden, theres a lot of conflict, and in the end, there is some kind of sympathy. And he wants to know if thats possible with political candidates. You mentioned at the top. This is my first show here. Youve done 5,000 of them in your time. How do you keep it exciting, maury . How do you not get board . Youre talking about things that are full of conflict, youve been doing it again and again.
