Its almost on a weekly, if not a daily basis. We had the story yesterday about the boy scouts evolving in their view. Why did you want to do the subject . I feel like every day, really, on a daily basis were reading new headlines about nonconforming people. Jerry told me when discussion group, they go around the circle or the room. They should their name and their pronoun. And so i thought, were seeing something transformational happening here. I went to yale, i talked to some Young Students<\/a> there about the new language of gender, thes an entirely new vocabulary and i crisscrossed the country. You look at the science side of this as well. Lets talk about the some of the conversations. You talked to the parents of i think a 4yearold. 5yearold. Yeah. Born as a boy. Who i think at four said to them in my heart and my brain im a girl. Thats right. A lot of people hear stories like that of a child at such a young age and they say its too early to know. I know. In fact, i really try today put myself in the shoes of people who werent that familiar with the topic. And i visited with the wonderful family in washington, d. C. And their son did at four say im a girl in my heart and my no one understands the struggle that they go through. And i asked how does somebody know when certainty they feel this way. They get a lot of professional help. They know their child. The fact of the matter is, you know, some kids just feel that way. Its a social transition, by the way. Theyre not doing surgery or any kind of sort of pharmaceutical intervention in this case. But they see their child completely change when their gender is affirmed. 40 , matt, of transgender people attempt or commit suicide. So this is a matter of life and death for these families. Let me go from a 5yearold boy to a couple. Theyve been married for 45 years, lindas husband, bill, tells her hes transgender and now goes by kate. Yes, ma saonw to ll you this, but all my life i believed im a woman and im female. And that i am transgendered. I looked at her and she started crying. The reason why i was crying was more out of sadness for the struggle. People have a hard time in general understanding what its like to be transgender. And i think they have a hard time, linda, understanding what its like to be a partner of someone who decides to transition. Sure. They are like, wait. You all are staying together . Yes. How do you explain it to them . Well, the way i kind of looked at it is that we all are given challenges in life. And this is one challenge that i felt that i could deal with. Its an extraordinary statement. To say challenges, thats an almost an understatement. I think it took linda some time. Ive been fascinated when i hear about the partners remaining as a couple. And i thought they were theyre an extraordi but she prayed a lot about it. And, you know, i think for those of us of our age who grew up in a very strict binary construct, its hard for us to wrap our heads around it. But, you know, they are really happy. Theyre in love. And their children are also very supportive. You know, i think a lot of us think of Caitlyn Jenner<\/a> and what she did in the last couple of years. Were also of an age where we remember some of the pioneers in this area. Youd get a kick out of this. I went golfing with Renee Richards<\/a> and she is the tennis legend who was on the front lines of this. She got gender confirmation surgery many years ago. And i talked to renee and a young transmodel actor. Whats interesting is theres such a generational divide here. Millenials, 50 of them believe that gender is on a spectrum. So to see little bit respectfully spar, about this notion of a binary versus gender fluidity and a spectrum was fascinating. Its a fascinating and important topic. I hope that people you know, people are afraid of what they donunderstand. If they understand it better theyll have more tolerance d more understanding for people who are different. When you think of the numbers, which are shocking, more than 70 million American Adults<\/a> have too much of the bad cholesterol in them, right . Thats right. If you can imagine, cholesterol is a waxylike substance and produced by our liver. Really, we need some cholesterol. Some is good in order for our bodies to thrive. But when we eat a junky diet, a diet thats super high in saturated fat, trans fat and sugar, it prompts our liver to make way too much cholesterol. Ill show you what happens then. Then the cholesterol travels throughout the body. It goes throughout the body and picks up all sorts of inflammatory substances ew. And it dumps itself into the artery walls as look at the plaque, yellow buildup. If you have an artery or arteries in your body that look like this, youre at high risk for heart attack and stroke. Lets move to foods thatll help us. Theres a lot of foods to help you lower your in your opinions. Apples contain a carbohydrate called pectin. It is hidden and buried within the skin. Other fruits, like bananas and melons, they have pectin within their skin, too, but we dont eat the skin. Thats why apples have an advantage. It latches on to cholesterol and gets it out of the body. Dont peel your apples before you eat them. What about these, apples nachos. All righty then. Might work. The guys are saying no, but some may say yes. Delicious. Another good food, lentils. Lentils dit theyve got two reasons they help lower cholesterol. First, theyre brimming with fire. One cup of cooked lentils has 16 grams of fiber. Insane amount. Fiber mahelps push cholesterol out. The other thing, because it is rich in protein, when you serve up a lentil, youre displacing a fatty beef with a lot of saturated fat. This is lentil sloppy joes. This is the good fat in avocadoes, right . Theyre caloric, so watch the amount, but these taste good and can lower cholesterol. First, it is the fiber thing again. But they also have mono unsaturated hearthealthy fat. One in particular helps to increase the good cholesterol and to lower the bad cholesterol. I love these kids. We dont have tons of time left. Oats are great because it has a fermented soluble fiber that helps to form a gel, like a cholesterol magnet, and flushes it out of your system. You can add oats. Take this. This is a smoothie. I put raw oats in. Its on the website. Tastes like bananas, too. Bananas and strawberries. Good. You can make oat flour by pulsing oats. This is an overnight chocolate banana finally, chia seeds. They increase the Health Quotient<\/a> of anything you put them on and they have no taste. You cant not like them. Put them in a smoothie or sal la salad dressing. He has to learn to take his nose and touch specific parts of the light switch. The light switch is helpful because it is not just beneficial for a veteran who may have a physical disability, but it is also helpful for someone with posttraumatic stress. Charlie could go into the room, turn the light on, and then theyre entering a welllit room. Wow. We saw him carrying Something Like<\/a> a dumbbell. He is not working on his fitness actually. The dumbbell is made of plastic. It is very lightweight. In preparation for learning how to retrieve items, hes actually learning how to hold them and carry them.
