we're watching snow to our north. i'll show you that in a second. but temperatures here are cold enough for your warm coat. again, as you step outside, we have a lot of 30 az on the map. 39 right now in the district. 37 leesburg. 36 clinton. 29 manassas. as you wake up and walk outside, you'll notice more clouds around. temperatures near 40 degrees by 9:00 a.m. not going to see the rain with the clouds until later tonight. there's snow in new england if you're traveling up to new england. we're looking at some potential delays there. maybe like boston, especially later this afternoon as the snow continues. but we are watching this rain around texas. that's headed in our direction later tonight and for part of your weekend. i'll break down the timing of it and what you can expect. christmas day is coming up. let check the roads now with dave dildine. how is it looking, dave? >> it's not so bad. actually on 95 it's looking good for the get away. closer to the district, it's slow on d.c. 295 and inbound on the southeast freeway. quick work by the trucks. they got the broken down car out of the way. let's go to the beltway. for maryland bound travelers in virginia, heavy and slow of the dulles toll road to the george washington parkway where the crash is still taking the right lane. >> molette and chris, back to you. >> it is that time of year. we all look forward to visiting family and friends for the holiday, at least most of them. we don't look forward to the stress of traveling. megan mcgrath is working for you about what you need to know about traveling for the holidays. >> are things picking up pretty good at this time? >> reporter: they look like they're catching up at this point. it was real busy when we spoke to you last. if you look behind me, it's busy at the automated kiosk. basically every machine is full at all times. the line we showed you last time, here it is. it used to stretch all the way to the departure board at the other end of the terminal. they've caught up with the line and things are starting to settle down. as it always happens at the airport, it comes in waves. it depends what the flight schedule is and all of the flights are booked. it's going to be busy not just here but at airports all around the country. keep that in mind and plan accordingly. we've been talking to passengers that we spoke to a little before 5:00 this morning. she was actually surprised at how busy it was so early in the morning. >> i wasn't expecting how many people there would be this morning. we got up at 3:30. there's this many people already here. my parents are like, it's christmas. >> oh, i didn't think this early that people would already be here. >> and, of course, everyone wondering about the flights, the status of their flights. take a look at the map. the national map here. only about 130 delays nationwide. here on the board at reagan pretty good. smooth sailing, good weather. airlines have added 90,000 seats to accommodate all of the demand during this holiday season. today the busiest day, today and tuesday here at area airports. the lightest day, if you're traveling, christmas day and new year's eve. now the rule of thumb here is if you're traveling, if you're going to an airport, you want to be here early, two hours early, that is the advice you have to go through baggage if you've got big bags. one kind of cheat here, if you don't need a big bag, bring the carry-on and skip this line entirely. >> thank you, megan. breaking news this morning. legendary sports broadcaster dick enberg died at the age of 82. he was the voice behind so many of the great calls in sports. he got a big break with ucla basketball and later did play-by-play for super bowls, the olympics and the san diego he was found dead inside his san diego home shortly before he was supposed to hop on a plane to boston. his family thinks he died of a heart attack but waiting for the official word. we're getting new video. two devastating house fires days before christmas. chopper 4 was over the scene of this fire. the fire was so intense, part of the home collapsed. you can see dozens of firefighters trying to get it out. no word on how it started. but it looks like most of that smoke is coming from the back of the house. we're working to learn if anyone was inside when it started. soon after chopper 4 flew to this house fire in germantown. >> it broke out on a section of brink road that didn't have fire hydrant access. montgomery county fire says when they arrived, the flames were coming out of the roof. take a look at the pictures from montgomery fire. you can see the home is destroyed. no one was home when the fire started. congresss latest spending bill will only last less than a month. the government open through january 19th. buys more time to debate a larger spending bill. it also puts off big decision on increased spending. maryland democrat john delainey says it was, quote, a terrible choice we were given. he's going to fight for full funding for the children's health insurance program and something for d.r.e.a.m.ers. delaney has already announced his run for the white house in 2020. remember those protests on inauguration day? stole his wife's car. they also hit a neighbor's car as well. all this went down on 16th street in northwest d.c. >> the first new car i've ever owned and i just assumed an alarm would go off ifu apparently, not. they knew that. they broke the windows and climbed into the cars. >> white tells us, in addition to his wife's car, the thieves also got away with the gift cards he had in his car. president trump is heading out of d.c. for the holidays. he's leaving for mar-a-lago sometime this morning with his family. >> he did take some time yesterday to visit with wounded military personnel and their families at walter reed military center. he awarded a soldier with a purple heart during the visit. vice president mike pence is on his way back from afghanistan. he made an unannounced visit in kabul. he spoke to u.s. troops in a rally. he thanked them for their service in the holiday season. he's the highest ranking trump administration official to visit an active u.s. combat zone. four months ago, the president committed several thousand more troops to that 16-year war afghanistan. a lot of folks either headed out to see family or maybe family is driving in to see them. >> we
