feelings like summertime. let's go to sheena for the details on that. >> good morning, chuck. i am outside where it is more comfortable where the air doesn't feel as humid as it was. 70 degrees currently. south winds very light. by the afternoon we can see a little bit of a breeze here and there. then we have t another hot one. you need the water. temperatures by lunchtime, near 80s. temperatures around 90 degrees. beware of that as you're heading out later on today. then we go into the weekend, we are talking about big changes across the area. forecast might be surprising you 6:02. following breaking news out of manassas right now. news 4's megan mcgrath just arrived on the scene of a police-involved shooting. megan. >> reporter: aaron, this began to unfoiled around 12:40 this morning. manassas city police getting a report of shots fired within the city limits. you can see this is one of the scenes here. they started to investigate that reported shot fired when they saw a vehicle that may have been involved. now if we can pan in here, zoom in here, you can see that black suv there. there's an officer at the driver's side door. that is the vehicle that they spotted. they tried to pull it over but the driver kept going. now manassas city -- the cruisers pursued the vehicle into prince william county. the driver did eventually stop here at the memorial park on bristow road. the officer at that point, there was some sort of a confrontation. the officer opened fire and wounded an 18-year-old who was behind the wheel. the driver has serious injuries according to police. there was also a juvenile who was inside that suv but the juvenile not injured. the investigation ongoing here. you can see we have an active scene. at this point it is not known what kind of driver, what prompted the officer to discharge his weapon but certainly all of that a part of the investigation. we're here on the scene. just got here a few minutes ago when we gather the information and bring you hopefully more details later in the show. back to you. >> megan, thank you. 6:04. now to the breaking news in maryland. >> there has been a deadly accident on route 210 in prince george's county. news 4's justin finch has the latest from the scene for us this morning. justin? >> reporter: aaron, good morning. the northbound lanes opened 1/2 hour ago. police are telling us they are still working to i.d. the victim and the driver who struck her and just kept going on northbound 210 overnight. i want to take you now to the investigation which wrapped up a short time ago. prince george's county police telling us they were able to find some clues on the scene, some of which we did see. we saw them roll off a piece of rolling luggage found near the victim. the impact knocked her out of her shoes. we know she was struck close to 12:45 this morning and that she was likely walking on northbound 210 north of farmington road when she was struck. police say the striking vehicle here struck her again and just kept going. at this point i asked if they had any details on what the striking vehicle had been. they're not sure. they are working on what type of car may have hit the person overnight. >> justin finch live. thank you. video of a fire in prince george's county overnight. we received new information. erika gonzalez is live. what's going on? >> reporter: this is a major house fire in hyattsville. look at these flames coming through here. this was so intense that firefighters put out a may day call because at one point when this was all happening there was some sort of partial roof collapse in there were five people inside. some of them, we understand, could be, if not all of them, university of maryland students that made it out safely. megan mcgrath was just on the scene and she was talking to one of the students that told her that she's graduating this weekend, she spent all of this money on graduation regalia and she lost everything for graduation. she's a big sister. if you see the story on our social media feed, we are trying to get some attention to the university of maryland to see if they can help this student out. this shouldn't affect her graduation day. aaron, eun, back over to you. >> thank you, erika. also breaking, a man was shot in the district overnight. we're working to find out whether he's going to be okay. d.c. police say someone shot the man on south capitol southern avenue. that's not far from the east dover shopping center. the man was awake when he was taken to the hospital but did not say exactly what condition he's in right now. seven minutes after the hour. a call for attorney general jeff sessions to step down. it was projected onto the department of justice headquarters. the message reads, sessions must go, and fire sessions. robin bell is claiming credit for this. an image of sessions dressed in a kkk outfit was projected onto the building. president trump is preparing to begin his first foreign trip. he's traveling to the middle east, the vatican and belgium. the president will be there for nine days and the search for a new fbi director may soon be over. we'll break down who's vying for the top spot at the fbi coming up at 6:30. developing this morning, times square is back open after a deadly crash yesterday. the crash caused chaos. the car jumped the curve and went hurdling down the situation. 18-year-old from michigan was killed. she was with the family on vacation in new york for. her 13-year-old sister was seriously hurt. new this morning we're learning what charges police say are being wrougbrought. richard rojas is charged with kun count of murder and 20 counts of attempted murder. they're looking into whether this was a dleliberate crash. he tested negative for alcohol but positive for drugs. there is so much raw emotion after the death of a 6-year-old boy. more heartbreaking once you learn that xavier lucky was hit and killed on his birthday ♪ happy birthday, dear xavier, happy birthday to you ♪ >> his friends sang him h xavier was hit and killed crossing livingston road in southeast d.c. wednesday night. his family was having a cookout at the park. the driver left the scene but later called 911 and is cooperating with police. no charges have been filed at this point. it's unclear how or why xavier decided to cross the road. d.c. officials are investigating the death of an inmate accused of shooting a 9-year-old boy at a playground. kenneth parker was found unresponsive in his cell yesterday. this is the second inmate death. he was charged with shooting jayden stancil in 2015. he was found shot in the head. he survived. d.c. jail officials have not released any information surrounding parker's death. when you buy you, sheena. a man died after his car collided with a school bus in camp springs. there were no children on the bus at the time. you can see that the bus went off the road and into these trees. the crash shut down temple hills road for several hours. we're working to find out more information and we'll bring you the latest on the nbc washington app. we have video of more severe storms out west including what looks like a tornado in oklahoma. pretty clearly here. there were some reports of more than a dozen tornadoes across oklahoma, texas, and kansas. on top of that, there was heavy severe weather has been an issue for days. earlier this week we told you two people died in severe storms in oklahoma and wisconsin. 6:15. today crews will take down the final statue of confederate war members. this is the final statue of robert e. lee set to come down at 10:00. crews started setting up for the removal. according to the new orleans mayor, the city is still deciding what to do with the areas where the statues stood. the statues are being held in a secure place. the city has been contacted by a number of entities interested in taking the statues. a united flight hit by a fuel truck at bwi airport. we are just getting details of the situation that happened last night. we understand this is a united flight coming into dulles. it was diverted to baltimore ca once it was there on the ground a fuel truck, as it's put, made contact with the aircraft. customers were bussed to a different terminal. we understand some sort of arrangements were made for them, but these are at the scene with the latest. megan? >> reporter: well, we have some more information and some more visuals for you. you can see behind me here, the scene. this's a black suv, that was the vehicle being pursued by manassas city police. we have an unmarked police cruiser with front end damage as well as a cruiser with a side swipe. the man shot by manassas city police was armed. it fit the description of a vehicle involved in an earlier report of a now that report, shots fired, came in at 12:40. manassas city police responded. they spotted the suv and tried to pull it over but the driver kept going and that's when the pursuit happened. >> during that pursuit there was some collision between our vehicles and the suspect vehicle that eventually stopped where you see him resting now. the suspect exited the vehicle as jonathan said earlier had a weapon. there were shots fired. suspect was hit. >> reporter: and it all ended here at the george hellwick memorial park. the person that was shot, the 18-year-old in serious condition at a hospital. back to you. >> megan, thank you. and it's 6:33. here are a look at some of the other top stories we're working on this morning. the death of a man shot and killed by police in arlington has now been ruled a homicide. daniel boak refused to stop for police on when officers tried to approach him, they say he put his truck in drive hpinning an officer against another vehicle. that's when boak was shot by police. the injured officer is said to be okay. a new settlement with the takata airbags have settled class action claims over nearly 16 million vehicles recalled. companies will pay out $533 million. and we're learning more about some power outages in northern virginia. dominion virginia power is reporting that nearly 3,000 customers are currently without power. we had some of those strong storms roll through our area last night. we're going to check back in with sheena and chuck on what to expect. >> erika gonzalez is at the live desk with a devastating fire in hyattsville. >> right. two firefighters injured at this house fire in university park. there was a partial collapse. this is on baltimore avenue in hyattsville in the park area. thankfully these are non-life threatening injuries. we understand that three people that got out safely were university of maryland students and one of them spoke to our megan mcgrath on the scene about losing her cap and gown ahead of graduation. >> all of my school work. so the entire five years of school was just burnt up, but my gown, my cap, my hood, my kords, my medals. i believe my graduation dress also now was burnt in the fire. >> if you'll do us a favor and share the story on social media, we're hoping we can do this good and get the cap and gown to her. two firefighters injured in this partial collapse at the house fire but we are told, again, they're nonlife threatening injuries. erika, thank you. 6:35. in just a few hours president trump will head stopped for driving with a broken taillight. two people were burned and a third was hurt jumping out of the building. the fire caused more than $250,000 in damage. after back-to-back rain delays, vdot chase to this place, hellwig memorial park in prince william county. at some point the suspect rammed police cars with his car according to officers. the suspect got out of the car with a gun and when he didn't drop it, the officers opened fire. a 15-year-old was found in the car. the officers will be placed on routine administrative leave. this breaking news. >> there's been a deadly accident on route 2210 in princ george's county. justin >> reporter: good morning. prince george's county police will spend the rest of the day working to identify the driver and the vehicle who struck and killed a woman whom police say appeared to have been walking on the side of northbound route 210 earlier this morning moments before losing her life. i want to take you now to video of the investigation that we have here. it closed down all northbound route 210 lanes overnight. we did see traffic being diverted on to nearby farmington road. now on the scene prince george's county police did find some clues. we saw them with some rolling luggage. they also looked inside that luggage that appears to have been found near the victim. the impact appearing to have knocked that woman out of her shoes. we do know that she was struck close to 12:45 this morning while she was walking on the side of north bound route 210. that's just north of farmington road. right now back out live, police working to we are following some developing news this morning. we are hearing out of prince george's county that an unoccupied prince george's ambulance has been reported stolen from the prince george's county hospital. local police agencies are in pursuit. again, a pgfd ambulance reported stolen from the prince george's hospital, and local police are pursuing this. we're trying to see if we've got some video from the ground yet. not yet. sorry. we're going to try to get and we'll be tweeting this out as soon as we get it. developing story in prince george's county. >> thank you, erika. times
