Northbound 95 in springfield, brand new crash there. No doubt going to cause some problems if it sticks around too long. Quite good. Still have this work zone northbound 295 at benning road. Now back to that breaking news weve been telling you about this morning. Two d. C. Police officers are in the hospital now after being shot by a suspect in the trinidad section of northeast. We have Team Coverage of the shooting from the scene to the hospital. In just a few minutes megan will have more on how this unfolded but we begin with news 4s justin finch at med star washington with an update on the officers conditions. Reporter eun, we know there was a very fast effort to save those officers moments after they were shot. Both were brought here to med star washington. Both we now know suffering from lower body wounds after being shot. Both are in stable condition. Among the many visitors was mayor bowser. She now acting police chief peter newshan stopped by as well. Both officers did come here to med star at least one we hear in the back of a police cruiser. One officer we now know did require surgery and we hear that may have been to dislodge a bullet. A second officer was treated here as well and as they recover, they will be speaking with detectives. The two best witnesses that we have that we know of right now are the two officers and theyre at the hospital being treated. Reporter and overnight the d. C. Police Union Treasurer speaking. Reporter well, just a few minutes ago i spoke to a woman who lives in the neighborhood and she was actually lying down last night when she heard about four bangs. At first she thought it was fireworks, but of course, that turned out not to be the case. It was a shooting. A shooting that happened behind me here at the intersection of holbrook and morse street. It happened at about 10 40 last night. Officers with a Crime Suppression Team, they were in the area for shots that had been fired earlier in the evening. They were at this intersection when shots rang out again. Two officers were hit. The suspect was killed and police said that they did find a gun that they believe belongs to the suspect. They found that gun here on the scene. Anc commissioner cathy henderson, she heard the shots from her home. She was upset to learn what had happened. I turn said two officers were shot and im im shocked. Im disgusted. This is just unbelievable. Reporter and there are still a lot of details that need to be sorted out. We dont know exactly what happened in the moments before the shooting obviously being able to talk to the two Wounded Police officers will help with all of that, but we are expecting to get an update later on today. This was his first night after getting officially tapped for the new job. He still has to be confirmed by expected to happen next month. Mayor bowser mentioned how he involved Police Involved shootings. He joined the Police Department back in 1989. The shooting involving these officers brings the total number of people shot in d. C. Last night to seven. Four people were hurt in three shootings on wheeler road southeast. That happened just within two hours of each other. One witness we spoke with said he heard eight gunshots. Police have not released any information on the victims or the suspects. It is 6 06. Today President Trump is set to take the stage at the conference. The white house has been rel wented at the conference. The results are in for some 200 women who had to be retested here in the district after a botched batch of testing. The race is on to develop a vaccine to protect us from the zika virus. A vaccine that would provide protection from all diseases transmitted by mosquitos. Justin finch joins us live from outside the hospital where fellow officers have been breathing a sigh of relief really this morning. Reporter much earlier we saw officers hugging, shaking hands, a true sense of relief after getting some terrifying news of two officers shot. Now from Police Sources we hear those officers are in stable condition. There were many visitors here overnight. Among them major bowser and acting police chief Peter Newsham. Police are telling us that both wounded officers are suffering from lower body wounds. One did require surgery. A second officer here was treated here overnight. Both were brought here awake and able to breathe which were promising signs for their recovery. Again, we are hearing that both officers are here in stable condition and both will speak with detectives about the shooting that injured them. Back in to you. All right. Well, all d. C. Police officers now use body cameras. The chief says the force has more body cameras than any other department in the country. There are 2,600 cameras. When officers respond to calls they are supposed to turn them on. So there is a good chance there is video from one of the officers who was hurt overnight. Back over to you guys. A woman is dead after being hit and killed in reston last night. Chopper 4 was over the scene of this deadly crash. Police say she was walking along reston parkway.
