scene. we have one adult male shot, shot multiple times. and died here at the scene. two other men hurt in this taken to the hospital. one taken with a stab wound and the other injured possibly grazed by a bullet here at the scene here on dallas place. we're not too far from st. barnabas road. police tell us this incident involving bullets and of course a stabbing was not random. they're asking anyone with information about this to come forward. they have not put out any information about suspects. no suspect decription given. but we have one dead at the scene. this is -- i'm molette green live this morning in temple hill. back to you. >> thank you. another homicide investigation is developing this morning. this time in southeast washington. we promised you we would follow up on the bodies police found in this burned out car saturday night. officials telling us that it belongs to a man and that he had at least one gunshot wound. investigators first went to the scene on xenia street for a call about a car on fire. now, they're working to find out more about the victim and the time line of events. a woman killed as she waited for a bus in springfield. and the driver suspected of drinking. news4's darcy spencer spoke to the victim's husband who says he has lost his best friend. >> i'm sorry. i'm sorry. >> reporter: abraham akula is grieving after his wife, senait mamo was killed by a suspected drunk driver as she waited for a bus a half a mile from their springfield home. >> generosity. kindness. it's senseless. >> reporter: fairfax county police have charged this fredericksburg man, 22-year-old corey english, with driving while intoxicatintoxicated. they believe speed and alcohol were factors when he lost control of his acura on old keene mill road. you can see the path that that car took, literally mowing down the bus stop sign where the victim was standing. she was just a ten minute walk away from home. her husband says she was waiting for a bus to go to work just before 3:00 in the afternoon. and that she was a student at george mason university. just a semester short of graduation. >> she had been quiet, careful, and a bright student at george mason university. trying to make the ends meet. >> reporter: akua -- akula has had a lot of financial issues. >> i don't know how to live life without her. >> reporter: it brought back memories after a well loved pediatrician dr. sullivan was killed a year ago. drivers are going way too fast here, and they want police to do more to slow them down. in springfield, darcy spencer, news4. 6:04 your time now. we are working to find out how loudoun county will replace shawn williams. he resigned hours after he was arrested for assaulting a neighbor in ash burn. some sort of dispute broke out after a block party on wingfoot court where he lives. williams forced his way into the neighbor's house 1:00 sunday morning and pushed a man during the argument. williams resigned via text message to scott york, board member. >> a lot of us have been worried about shawn for a long time. by stepping down, he's taken the right step, the first step, to getting the help that he needs and i just wish him and his family the best. >> now this is not shawn williams' first run-in with the law. he withdrew from the race to be board chairman. he admitted to having several drunk driving incidents and domestic disputes. one came in 2006 when williams was accused of beating up his girlfriend in his grandmother's ocean city condo. williams assaulted the woman after being suspicious when another man called her cell phone. the charges were dismissed. 6:05. it is supposed to be a day to relax as we honor the workers of america. but we'll show you why more and more of you are spending the day in the office. situation. so 800,000 people aaa estimates got out of town in our area. nine out of ten, in fact. look at the top three bottlenecks in our area. 95 north between d.c. and baltimore. the beltway at the 270 split and 95 southbound to fredericksburg. so best piece of advice morning, leave early or leave late. whether you're coming back to town or just trying to get out and get some errands down before work tomorrow. leave early or leave late. hopefully to avoid most of the traffic. two pieces of good news, however, this labor day. gas prices are down and most jurisdictions have suspended road work expected to pay their respects in illinois where a popular police officer shot and killed nearly a week ago will be laid to rest. lieutenant joe gliniewicz was killed while chasing three suspicious men in fox lake. his killers have not been found yet. well, there is a public funeral at gliniewicz's hometown high school. then mourners will line the streets for a procession through town. passing the department where he worked for more than 30 years. >> there can't be enough support for our men and women in blue right now because it's been such a tough time for their families. >> a fantastic family. anybody who contributes to protect and serve this community, i'm sorry, i couldn't do his job. >> lieutenant gliniewicz was a father of four boys. police are still tracking down leads trying to find those plea suspects. a tragedy in ocean city during this holiday weekend. an 8-year-old girl drowned there. city officials say she was swimming with friends in shallow water on saturday night when a wave came in. the girl was overcome by that wave and pulled in to the inlet waters. a police boat found her about a quarter mile off shore. she died at the hospital. the kentucky county clerk jailed for refusing to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples awaiting a ruling on her appeal. kim davis officially filed that appeal yesterday. tomorrow, a crowd is expected to rally in support of davis when republican presidential candidate mike huckabee visits her. davis says granting a same-sex license would violate her faith. the minnesota dentist who shot and killed a beloved african lion heads back to work this week. walter palmer has spent more than a month in hiding since the world found out he killed cecil the lion. palmer said he acted legally and had no idea the lion was one of zimbabwe's treasured animals. at one point, zimbabwe said it planned to extradite palmer to face charges but no formal steps were actually taken. the dentist will be back to work tomorrow. a fire at a condo complex in howard county may have been a lot worse if the building wasn't so close to the fire department. firefighters say they arrived in seconds to the condos on wyndham way in columbia. even with the fast response though it took 75 firefighters about an hour to get the flames under control. fire officials say two residents had minor injuries, one firefighter also had minor burns. time right now, 6:19. so have you ever gotten upset at your son or daughter for racking up a huge phone bill? >> yeah, from the richmond affiliate we see how one dad got creative to make sure his 13-year-old julia the data debacle is a huge mistake. she's an honor student who works with kids with special needs and her work ethic is strong. >> julia woke up at 6:30 when i woke up and she started doing chores. she's been working ever since. >> reporter: she has the basic necessities like soap and a toothbrush, but that's it. she's learning her lesson. >> she said you know what, dad, i know you love me. i know i messed up. i'm going to work this off. >> reporter: for now, there's still a lot of work that needs to be done. but jared has a message for all the parents who say this tough love will pay off. >> i want to thank them for their positive support on it. you know, it's easy to just ground the kid and put them in their room for a day or two or whatever. and not talk to them about it. and i think a lot of parents have kind of backed up a little bit and of the like, you know what? something like this to were happen it's better to kind of stand up for themselves and afternoon. could cause some brief slowdowns late in the day on wednesday. but that's days away. hour by hour, temperatures in the mid to upper 60s by 1:00. 88 at 5:00 p.m. today. so it will be sunny and hot, more humid than it's been the last couple of days as well. 86 in bowie. 90 downtown on the national mall. 88 in fairfax and 86 the high in gaithersburg today. future weather, just sunny and floodgates to heat, haze and humidity in abundance as we get towards wednesday -- tuesday afternoon, wednesday on into thursday. so what's a little sticky outside for today, becomes uncomfortable for the new poll numbers. nbc's tracie potts is now tracking the latest numbers. i know it's labor day, but the politicians are working hard today. >> this is their day, you're right. this is the day they get out and connect with voters. sort of the unofficial start to the fall campaign season and the big story today when you're talking about those numbers is hillary clinton in new hampshire. she is no longer the leader there. our new nbc maris poll shows hillary clinton's negative numbers are up. she's still leading iowa that's where she's campaigning today, but in new hampshire, senator bernie sanders has a nine-point lead even if vice president biden joins the race. >> don't tell anybody i think they're getting nervous. >> reporter: donald trump still has solid leads in both states. in new hampshire his closest competitor is john kasich. >> they want someone to get the job done. >> today, he and carly fiorina and lindsey graham will be at a picnic today. walker is on a motorcycle tour. walker and santorum will be in south carolina today, but the big story is hillary clinton and her dwindling lead. >> this is one of the most important elections that we have had in a long time. >> county. police tell us someone hit a pedestrian at the intersection on south frederick avenue and southwest drive. that's in gaithersburg. we are hearing that the driver that did hit the woman is on the scene. police are diverting the traffic at southbound 335 and rose month drive. we'll bring you an update as soon as they get there. aaron? 6:33. our murder suspect is in jail and it didn't take police long to get him there. this is the latest in the rise of violence in the district. davon estrich faces murder charges. you can see the building from the scene there. officers arrested him hours after he shot and killed hooper, another man who is recovering this morning from a gun shot wound. now we mentioned we are tracking a rise in violence in the city. we are up to 108 homicides in the city. a 22-year-old died in a shooting friday night on 25th street northeast. police found the man's body with the gunshot wound on saturday inside a burned out car on xenia street. there were 105 homicides in all of 2014. a developing story right now. france's president just announced that the country will welcome 24,000 refugees. this announcement comes one day after pope francis asked every catholic church in europe to help take in migrants fleeing their home countries. he's already accepted two refugee families at the vatican. the real problem still lies in hungary. that's where this video was taken. migrants from several different parts of the middle east say they have been treated horribly by the police. >> and police are not -- so that's why we need to run away and just go. maybe to germany, but run away. we don't want to -- want them to catch us here. >> many hungarians are upset by the treatment to the migrants. citizens are bringing clothing and supplies to the rock creek. deadly scene overnight after a shooting and 6:44 now. a deadly shooting and a stabbing that is breaking news in prince george's county. police swarmed an apartment complex in temple hills. news4's molette green is nearby. she just spoke with officers there. what were you able to find out? >> reporter: i can tell you, aaron, we are expecting to get another update from police momentarily. they are looking for suspects right now after the shooting and stabbing broke out shortly af r after -- before midnight. we are talking about three victims in this one of them, an adult male shot dead. found his body -- police found his body on some steps near a large trash bin. two others were taken to the hospital. one with stab wounds, the other grazed by a bullet. this happened on dallas place where it's not too far from st. barnabas road. police say this was not a random crime and they need witnesses to come forward, to give them information so that they can solve this shooting and should not count him out even though he lost the primary. he will run as a write-in candidate. people want him to run, so much so they're stopping him in the streets he said. >> this city is worth fighting for. i was born and raised here and i will not go quietly into the night. >> now, he lost the democratic primary to council vice chair allison silberberg in june by more they 200 vote. today is the last day of summer in virginia. thousands will head back into the classroom. tomorrow in fairfax county. more than 57,000 high schoolers will get to sleep later this school year. the county's 22 high schools will start between 8:00 and 8:10 and middle school is starting 30 minutes earlier at 7:30. changing start times means changing bus schedules. fairfax county police saying they'll be out in force helping to keep the morning rush smooth with all the extra buses. and arlington county will welcome kids back earlier. discovery is opening for first time in the morning. it was named for john glenn, the first new school in the county in 14 years. there was concern that the school would not be ready in time for the first day. teamers actually didn't start moving -- teachers didn't start moving their stuff into the classrooms until last week. they have slides and moveable walls. it was to reflect new ideas about learning. and a reminder, spotsylvania and fairfax county are back mothers. researchers say this might be because more school age kids are getting it. infants face a greater risk of death. experts are urging parents to gear up for flu season by vaccinating your kids. all kids 6 months and older should get the shot. e-cigarettes are gaining popularity over recent years and now teens are using them to smoke marijuana. nbc's erica edwards has more on how it could be happening right in front of your eyes. >> reporter: are these teenagers getting a hit of nicotine or secretly getting high? >> teens have actually discovered how to use e-cigarettes for vaping marijuana. >> reporter: researchers from the yale university school of medicine had nearly 4,000 high school students fill out an anonymous survey. nearly a third had tried e-cigarettes. of those kids 18% said they'd vaped marijuana. >> the kids who said they had both used e-cigarettes and had experimented with cannabis in the past, it was around 27%. >> reporter: often they're smoking hash oil, extracted from the marijuana plants. hash oil is more potent than the average joint and there's little to no tell tale scent. that means kids are smoking pot around unsuspecting parents and teachers. >> their fear of getting caught has gone down and that's a big deal. once you remove that fear of getting punished, they're going to expeerment -- experiment more. >> reporter what's more, it may
