a matter of fact a train just left here a short time ago. so far we know metro received some 500 plus sick or absentee requests for today. we know all so far have been denied. on the off chance that workers don't show up for work today, metro is rolling out these 123 coverage. this morning at the new carrollton station we did see metro workers showing up for work. seemed pretty normal. so for now it's seemingly back to work with the largest union locked in negotiation talks. now some union members demonstrated during a metro hearing on thursday before turning their backs on general manager paul wiedefeld. a show of displeasure with the contract and sick leaf policy, lack of raises and benefits cuts. >> a fair contract that wouldn't hurt our family or our community. >> any time you are in a ask contract negotiation, it can be tough. unfortunately i think we have some issues here that i addressed. it plays out the way it plays out. >> reporter: back live we did see a train here leave a short time ago. another train due on the tracks shortly. so far we can tell you, again, just in caseworkers don't show, there is a policy in place to keep workers on staff so hopefully service won't starting this weekend v. dot will be shutting down two of four lanes of the neabsco creek bridge. the bridge has a hole in the deck and it needs to be repaired. the first phase of construction starts southeast. no one was injured though. police arrested a man they say sexually assaulted a woman in the middle of the day in a busy area in silver springs. the woman says she was walking along castle boulevard wednesday afternoon when a man dragged her into a wooded area, sexually assaulted her and then took her money. 33-year-old antonio comara was arrested yesterday and remains in jail. section 5. people in the community are determined to do their part to help. last night the d.c. democratic women's club invited them to a meeting to the issue. the group says it understands some of the young people are run aways, but it doesn't think all of them haveville lun tarlly left home. the group wants police to prioritize finding the missing teens. >> we're bringing in individuals from across the district to discuss this matter to determine what we can do. police say there were 2200 cases of missing children last year. so far this year they've dealt with 730. coming up, we wrap up our special shuts down at midnight. it looks like republicans will vote on a measure to keep the government open for one week while they work on a longer term spending deal. montgomery county police say this man sexually assaulted a woman. he dragged a woman from castle boulevard into a wooded area. he assaulted her and took her money. d.c. police want you to be on the lookout for a green car, possibly a mazda with a redskins sticker on it. incident last night on pomeroy road in southeast that left a police cruiser damaged on the driver's side. no one was injured. now to delaware where investigators are trying to figure out why an officer was killed. ballard had approached the car sealey was in and sealey started firing. he was killed by police after barricading himself inside his family home for hours. corporal ballard was an eight year veteran of the delaware state police force. >> those who knew him say his leadership skills went back to his childhood in prince george's county. erika gonzalez has more on who he'll be remembered here. >> reporter: in addition to friends and co-workers remembering him, corporal ballard leaves behind a wife and a young daughter. long before he became a state trooper he was part of a civil air patrol program as a it allowed people to work with the air force. ballard was a man that will be remembered for his commitment to others. >> he was a big, loveable teddy bear, i guess you could say. he had a big heart. he was always there to help people. and he will definitely be missed by everyone here and i'm sure everyone in delaware. >> and memorials to corporal ballard have been set up outside the delaware wawa where he was shot. he's the 13th officer to be shot and killed this year across the united states. in the newsroom i'm erika gonzalez. 5:34. a 14-year-old boy faces assault charges after police say he stabbed a girl near a bus stop. investigators tell us the boy attacked another 14-year-old near eastern middle school yesterday afternoon. the school is on university bull will he ward near silver springs. the girl was taken to the recover. a mother took matters into her own hands to catch a suspected child predator lurking on instagram. d.c. police say joshua gibbs met a 13-year-old on instagram. what he didn't know was the 13-year-old's mother saw the post and pretended to be her daughter. the mom exchanged messages with gibbs and agreed to let gibbs send an uber to pick her up. d.c. police followed the uber to gibbs home and picked him up. gibbs says he uses instagram to find girls. the fire responsible for all of this damage, $39 million worth, was an accident. investigators still don't know what caused monday's historic fire at college park, but they know it was not set on purpose. the prince george's county says it could take weeks to sift through the rubble by hand and find the cause. they're asking acceptsend them photos of the early stages of the fire. a big defender is coming to the redskins and who's coming home? the team drops defensive lineman jonathan allen in the lineup. allen was a star at alabama. he is from northern virginia. he went to stone bridge high school in ashburn possibly laced with that prescription drug. >> news 4's megan mcgrath is live at river bend middle school in sterling where this recently happened. megan, tell us how loudoun county sheriff's office is handling this? >> reporter: they held a big meeting last night. questions like this, what's in your medical cab knit? what's the access for kids. those are among the questions discussed during this meeting between the loudoun county sheriff's department and parents. it was a very well-attended meeting. this meeting happens from time to time. it's been scheduled for months but it took on new focus last night in light of allegations that several river bend middl a drink 2456s laced with xanax recently. good turnout, as i said. about 100 or more parents here attending that meeting. a very frank discussion of the issues. one mother said she'll take a closer look at the prescriptions in her house. >> i was so worried because i thought to myself, a lot of these drugs i have in my medicine cabinet. so i was thinking to myself, wow, i need to be a little careful because i have a lot of teenagers that come to my house. i don't know what they would do. now this is happening at middle back day. it's an annual eventim keeping prescription drugs from getting in the wrong hands. it's getting special attention. news 4 spoke with a substance abuse program manager for loudoun county. they say keep an eye on your kids' behavior. >> you want to look after some of those things, those warning signs that we sometimes talk about, change in friendship, change in behavior. >> as for the physical warning signs of xanax, experts say to look out for things such as drowsiness, impaired coordination or slurred speech. president trump hits the 100 day mark of his presidency tomorrow. he's giving congress a big to do list that includes tax reform, health care reform and several high profile investigations. >> but the bill that directly affects most of the people in our area is a spending bill to keep the government open. without one the government will shut down at midnight. news 4's tracie potts is live on capitol hill with the odds that congress can pass something today. for another week while they try to work this out. now republican leaders have said, no, they won't deal with health care before they try to meet this midnight deadline. there will not be a vote this week. that could open the door for more cooperation. we are expecting a vote on this to avoid the deadline to at least extend for a week government spending. that should happen sometime late morning a matter of fact a train just left here a short time ago. so far we know metro received some 500 plus sick or absentee requests for today. we know all so far have been denied. on the off chance that workers don't show up for work today, metro is rolling out these 123 coverage. this morning at the new carrollton station we did see metro workers showing up for work. seemed pretty normal. so for now it's seemingly back to work with the largest union locked in negotiation talks. now some union members demonstrated during a metro hearing on thursday before turning their backs on general manager paul wiedefeld. a show of displeasure with the contract and sick leaf policy, lack of raises and benefits cuts. >> a fair contract that wouldn't hurt our family or our community. >> any time you are in a ask contract negotiation, it can be tough. unfortunately i think we have some issues here that i addressed. it plays out the way it plays out. >> reporter: back live we did see a train here leave a short time ago. another train due on the tracks shortly. so far we can tell you, again, just in caseworkers don't show, there is a policy in place to keep workers on staff so hopefully service won't southeast. no one was injured though. police arrested a man they say sexually assaulted a woman in the middle of the day in a busy area in silver springs. the woman says she was walking along castle boulevard wednesday afternoon when a man dragged her into a wooded area, sexually assaulted her and then took her money. 33-year-old antonio comara was arrested yesterday and remains in jail. section 5. people in the community are determined to do their part to help. last night the d.c. democratic women's club invited them to a meeting to the issue. the group says it understands some of the young people are run aways, but it doesn't think all of them haveville lun tarlly left home. the group wants police to prioritize finding the missing teens. >> we're bringing in individuals from across the district to discuss this matter to determine what we can do. police say there were 2200 cases of missing children last year. so far this year they've dealt with 730. coming up, we wrap up our special shuts down at midnight. it looks like republicans will vote on a measure to keep the government open for one week while they work on a longer term spending deal. montgomery county police say this man sexually assaulted a woman. he dragged a woman from castle boulevard into a wooded area. he assaulted her and took her money. d.c. police want you to be on the lookout for a green car, possibly a mazda with a redskins sticker on it. incident last night on pomeroy road in southeast that left a police cruiser damaged on the driver's side. no one was injured. now to delaware where investigators are trying to figure out why an officer was killed. ballard had approached the car sealey was in and sealey started firing. he was killed by police after barricading himself inside his family home for hours. corporal ballard was an eight year veteran of the delaware state police force. >> those who knew him say his leadership skills went back to his childhood in prince george's county. erika gonzalez has more on who he'll be remembered here. >> reporter: in addition to friends and co-workers remembering him, corporal ballard leaves behind a wife and a young daughter. long before he became a state trooper he was part of a civil air patrol program as a it allowed people to work with the air force. ballard was a man that will be remembered for his commitment to others. >> he was a big, loveable teddy bear, i guess you could say. he had a big heart. he was always there to help people. and he will definitely be missed by everyone here and i'm sure everyone in delaware. >> and memorials to corporal ballard have been set up outside the delaware wawa where he was shot. he's the 13th officer to be shot and killed this year across the united states. in the newsroom i'm erika gonzalez. 5:34. a 14-year-old boy faces assault charges after police say he stabbed a girl near a bus stop. investigators tell us the boy attacked another 14-year-old near eastern middle school yesterday afternoon. the school is on university bull will he ward near silver springs. the girl was taken to the recover. a mother took matters into her own hands to catch a suspected child predator lurking on instagram. d.c. police say joshua gibbs met a 13-year-old on instagram. what he didn't know was the 13-year-old's mother saw the post and pretended to be her daughter. the mom exchanged messages with gibbs and agreed to let gibbs send an uber to pick her up. d.c. police followed the uber to gibbs home and picked him up. gibbs says he uses instagram to find girls. the fire responsible for all of this damage, $39 million worth, was an accident. investigators still don't know what caused monday's historic fire at college park, but they know it was not set on purpose. the prince george's county says it could take weeks to sift through the rubble by hand and find the cause. they're asking acceptsend them photos of the early stages of the fire. a big defender is coming to the redskins and who's coming home? the team drops defensive lineman jonathan allen in the lineup. allen was a star at alabama. he is from northern virginia. he went to stone bridge high school in ashburn is handling this? >> reporter: they held a big meeting last night. questions like this, what's in your medical cab knit? what's the access for kids. those are among the questions discussed during this meeting between the loudoun county sheriff's department and parents. it was a very well-attended meeting. this meeting happens from time to time. it's been scheduled for months but it took on new focus last night in light of allegations that several river bend middl a drink 2456s laced with xanax recently. good turnout, as i said. about 100 or more parents here attending that meeting. a very frank discussion of the issues. one mother said she'll take a closer look at the prescriptions in her house. >> i was so worried because i thought to myself, a lot of these drugs i have in my medicine cabinet. so i was thinking to myself, wow, i need to be a little careful because i have a lot of teenagers that come to my house. i don't know what they would do. now this is happening at middle back day. it's an annual eventim keeping prescription drugs from getting in the wrong hands. it's getting special attention. news 4 spoke with a substance abuse program manager for loudoun county. they say keep an eye on your kids' behavior. >> you want to look after some of those things, those warning signs that we sometimes talk about, change in friendship, change in behavior. >> as for the physical warning signs of xanax, experts say to look out for things such as drowsiness, impaired coordination or slurred speech. president trump hits the 100 day mark of his presidency tomorrow. he's giving congress a big to do list that includes tax reform, health care reform and several high profile investigations. >> but the bill that directly affects most of the people in our area is a
