one man is dead and one seriously hurt. molette green live for us on k street. mollet. >> reporter: good morning. we've been watching two active scenes here, one in the 200 block of k street and the other down the road at third and i. unclear how they're related. you see the police cars here on the scene we know the stabbings happened around 1:00 a.m. here on k street where two men were stabbed. one of them died at the hospital. the other man as you said suffered injuries to the leg. we're working to find out a motive and a better description of the male suspect that police say they want to find in this case. this is an area where the new and the old kind of come together here called the new mt. vernon. the new downtown area where there are new high end homes, new construction, and an existing community, even a baptist church down the way. new jersey avenue is just over the bridge that is behind me. so this community has had some challenges with crime. this is still very early in the investigation. again, we have one man dead. died at the hospital. the other, suffering a serious leg injury after the stabbing that happened just after 1:00 a.m. this morning. we're staying on top of it here from the scene in northwest d.c. i'm molette green reporting live. back to you. 5:04. montgomery county police are trying to track down a killer. police say 21-year-old deandre smith was shot in the head behind the laundromat on contour road just after 6:00. a witness saw the shooting and tried to chase down the gunman. crime solvers is offering a reward up to $10,000 for any information leading up to an arrest. today the mother of a 12-year-old boy who was shot and killed by a police officer in ohio speaks out about the investigation into his death. samaria rice will hold a news conference today with her attorney about new reports. two new reports released last weekday say the officer who shot tamir rice was justified or his actions were reasonable. the report also said he acted reasonably under the law when he shot rice last november. rice says he shot immediately without an investigation. jason goolsbee forcibly detained has gone viral. he was detained monday by police because a family member said they felt threatened by him. goolsbee's attorney said the 18-year-old went to an atm to get money but changed his mind. as he was leaving the bank he held the door for a family member who called police saying they felt threatened. minutes later cruisers sped up to him, nearly hitting him, and he ran. >> i had seen the gun and pepper spray and nearly got t by a car. my first instinct was to run because i didn't want to die. i feared iffer my life. >> d.c. police say they're investigating the incident. d.c.'s mayor's office says this is why they need to move faster to set up the body cam program for the police. now to a developing story. a hacker linked to isis is being extradited to the u.s. the state identified him as ardit ferizi. the kosovo citizen apparently went to malaysia to further his studies hchl's believed to be the lead over a kosovo internet hacking group. right now a major freeway in southern california is shut down because of terrible flooding overnight. we're talking mud up to five feet deep on interstate 5. look at that. this is north of los angeles. you can just see roofs of their cars and mud up to wheels of that suv. working to find out why few people knew about an active shooting drill. it appears that tenants in a building there misread an e-mail about that drill and called police. a federal agency conducting the drill hadn't told police beforehand it was happened. officers secured several floors and locked down two schools before discovering the mistake. they thought a body of a woman was a halloween decoration. there was an i.d. a man is facing charges for the murder of that 31-year-old woman. remember this video of two high school players tackling the referee on it. the coach took questions yesterday before the governings body of the texas high school football. the coach admitted that the umpire, quote, needs to pay following what he thought was a bad call. >> he knows from my style of following the critical deadline. it turns out hillary clinton has raised more than any other candidate. she's sitting on $77 million. $30 million raised in the last quarter. ben carson, he's got a third of what she's raised. meantime donald trump and ben carson are teaming up together to ask our sister network who's running the debate to make sure it doesn't go over two hours and to each get an opening and closing statement. if not they'll boy caught. >> they say they'll take the suggestions under consideration. as you noted, there are critical deadlines coming up for joe biden if he decides no thank you to a campaign donation. a man donated $2,700 to the campaign. you might remember ska reallily's company was in the news for raising the price of drugs. sanders' campaign has been critical of him. the campaign will donate it to the whitman walter health clinic in washington. they questioned whether the air strike was legal. at least 24 staff and patients were killed earlier this month. the "associated press" this month reports that they knew the building was a hospital and believed it was being used to coordinate taliban tifbtd. it is not clear whether the military crew that carried out the bombing knew their target was a hospital full of civilians. if they did, they say the offense would amount to war crime. pumpkins, hot cider, and controversy. some police officers are upset about the black lives matter sign in the window of a home near cox farms in fairfax county. in a facebook post, the president of the fairfax county for fraternal order of police says because of that he will not go to the farm anymore. brad constructers and other officers believe the black lives matter message is now distorted to target police. erin cox put the sign in her window and said she means no harm to officers. they unveiled a six-point plan. the group's plan focuses on what they call quality arrested entering the city's gage order on police misconduct and getting body cameras for police within a year. today's rally comes moths after the riots involving the death of freddie gray. he died one week after being taken into police custody. the six officers charged in his death el nino is back. forecasters say a big change is on the way. el nino effect means warmer temperatures instead of heavy snowfall. normal areas that are dry may deal with flooding and landslides. it could
