director robert muller is getting bipartisan praise for lawmakers after he was appointed special counsel in the russia direction. it was made after intense pressure on capitol hill. president trump released a statement saying, a thorough investigation will confirm what we already know, there was no collusbe and any foreign entity. i look forward to this matter concluding quickly. news 4 is working for you. here are 4 things to know about the new special counsel, robert mueller. this is a deep did i have into his background for you. mueller ran the fbi for 12 years taking the agency over a week before the 9/11 terrorist attack. he's the second longest serving director behind only j. edgar hoover. he was appointed by george w. bush and was asked to stay on for two years in 2011 by president obama. and he was asked to oversee the restitution money from the takata defective airbag case. and he was appointed to oversee the ray rice investigation. news 4's tracie pots will have the details on how broad mull news about a police shooting. >> white police officer in oklahoma who shot and killed an unarmed blackman is unacquitted. betty joe shelby said she fired out of fear. you might remember this case. crusher had his hands held up over his head when he was killed last september. his family bursting into tears in a courtroom when the verdict was read. she said she fired because crutcher didn't obey her commands. she was charged with manslaughter but again not guilty in that. his family called the verdict a disappointment and called the police department corrupt. it's 4:33. it happened in a busy section of arlington and now police are looking for witnesses to a police-involved shooting that left a suspect in grave condition. this all started during rush hour last night with a traffic stop on the glebe road ramp of 395. a pickup truck. investigators say the driver took off hitting a police officer in the process. that's when officers started shooting at the suspect shattering the front windows of the car. the suspect was hit. two officers were also hurt. one was taken to theserious inj expected to be okay. that surprised a lot of people. >> it sounded like a motorcycle back firing right under the window, first of all. it made me jump. >> it's really sad, honestly, that people decide to do these things. >> police went door to door in a nearby apartment building looking for witnesses. the suspect's name has not been released and it's not clear why he was wanted by police. chopper 4 flew over an apartment fire that forced families out of their homes. this is in silver springs just off of new hampshire avenue in the beltway. everyone got out okay. no word on the cause of that fire. starting today, one of the in arlington is supposed to be safer, more efficient. here's what you'll see at the crystal city metro station. new curb space, improved sidewalks and crosswalks and added lighting. officials will celebrate with a ribbon cutting at 10:00 this morning. more than 20,000 people use that station each day. here's something that might make you feel good about your commute today on the dulles greenway. your money will go towards a good cause. the private highway connects dulles international airport to leesburg, virginia. they're donating 100% of all tolls today to six local charities and the dulles greenway scholarship . breaking news just into the newsroom. the lead singer from sound garden and audio slave has died. chris cornell was just 52 years old. he was on tour when he died overnight. still not clear as to they get out of the hospital. three people in their 20s were able to escape the fire in berk, virginia, yesterday. the cause was electric electrical. one woman jumped out of a second story window. two others had to be to the hospital. >> the screams were horrible. young kids screaming and trying to get out but i think it just started so fast and it was like instantaneous. there was no -- there was that many say exploits childhood grief. this ad played in the u.k. and it features a teenager talking to his mother about his father that recently died. they go on a walk. the two end up at aaron. wall street had the worst day of a month. markets in china, japan, australia, south korea are all down this morning. investors are showing concern after the report that president trump tried to stop an investigation into his national security advisor. the dow jones industrial average fell more than 350 points yesterday. the dollar also dropped in value. back over to you. >> erika, thank you. it's 4:46. developing this morning, a new man is in charge of the fbi's investigation into russia. >> news 4's edward lawrence is how broad will robert mueller's investigation be? >> reporter: he will have broad powers as special counsel, subpoena power, get witnesses to testify. he can bring charges. he can also prosecute. this is not something he's unfamiliar with. robert mueller ran the fbi as you know right after the 9/11 attacks for about 12 years. he's likely to reach out to some of his former colleagues at the fbi to see where the investigation into the russian meddling in the u.s. election stands and then go forward from there. what this might do though is delay a little bit this investigation because he has to get staff in place first. >> edward, there's a new report that former national security adviser michael flynn told the trump team he was under investigation weeks before the inauguration. what do you know about that? >> reporter: well, eun, "the new york times" reports that flynn told the team that he was under investigation for this. it didn't seem to phase them. two days after the inauguration he told ivanka trump an kushner that he wanted to be national security adviser and they apparently told him he would get the job. he did get the job for 20 something days before he ended up being fired. >> edward lawrence on capitol hill for us. thanks. rod soon as we get you information on what happened. dramatic new cell phone video showing the moments d.c. police shot and killed a woman tuesday night. we should warn you that some may find this video disturbing. >> oh, oh. oh, my god. isabel duvall refused commands to drop her weapon and raised the gun right before officers fired. investigators say she started wang her car near the bald eagle rec center. police are reviewing body camera video to see what led to that confrontation. a prince george's county police officer facing up to ten years in prison. this comes as new video shows officer jose hernandez chasing a suspect in his police cruiser. he ran down that suspect with his car. the suspect did not need medical attention. the officer was convicted of assault. they have a duty to hold him accountable. >> officer hernandez's actions on this day not only violated the trust of his community but were opposite of the values of this community. >> fernandez is expected to be sentenced in july. new video of a sexual assault suspect running away from the crime scene. take a look. you can see that he even jumps over a wall. the video was taken on wilson boulevard which is right around the corner from where the 7th. the man tricked a woman into opening her door by claiming he was maintenance, forced his way in and sexually assaulted her. take a look at the surveillance video. the suspect is still on the loose this morning. sexual harassment is something you expect to hear about in the workplace, not necessarily in the hallways of your child's school. this morning we're learning there were 200 incidents of students reporting sexual harassment at montgomery county's school last academic year. the number of incidents have gone up three years in a row. the intrigue could be the result of more reporting after staff was trained about reporting child abuse. wawa lovers, time to get excited here. right now you have to go outside the beltway. wawa says the
