southern california. saturday night, the fire forced hundreds from their homes just outside los angeles. it's now 35% contained. there have been no injuries or reported damages there, but the fire has observed one second of silence for each victim. the impacts of the bp oil spill are still being felt five years later especially on gulf wildlife. it happened five years ago today and scientists tracking bottle nose dolphins reportewer births. they have counted more than 1,000 dolphins stranded 95% died. coastal erosion is also an issue. the associated press reports deep sea oil drilling continues to expand into further deaths. the number of deep water drilling rigs is up to 48 from 35 at the time of that oil spill. we all remember when this happened the bombing at the boston marathon caused chaos there. it killed three people and hurt more than 200 others. it's now been two years since that bombing and the race is on again today. nbc's jay gray is live in boston where police say don't hope it stays safe, they know it will be safe. they're confident about the race this year and about the safety of more than 100,000 expected to pour in here to celebrate the 119th running of the boston marathon. of course this race run every day on patriots day. that's a red sox game here. it's really at the core of what makes boston boston for many people. and in this community, determined to make sure it stays that way. again, as i talked about earlier more than 100,000 expected to be here to take part in this celebration. 18 people that won't be though the judges asked the 12 jurors and six alternates that will be a part of the sentencing phase in the dzhokhar tsarnaev bombing trial to stay away from this race. of course they began that penalty phase tomorrow here boston. a court proceeding expected to last 2 to 2 1/2 weeks. they're now determining after the guilt or innocence phase, determining whether he'll face life in prison or the death penalty. again, that's something escape violence in africa. and several similar incidents more than 1,500 people have gone missing at sea in that area this year. today, hillary clinton is heading to new hampshire to try to recapture the magic of her come from behind victory there in 2008. she arrives in that state facing little opposition this time around. but advisers say she is determined to show she's not taking anything for of heavy rain splitting frederick county and continuing down into parts of prince william county moving to the stafford area. again, this steady rain is out of here by about 7:00 a.m. and then our focus shifts to this afternoon when between 5:00 and 9:00 p.m. we could have some high winds that create some isolated damaging wind. can't rule out some hail, heavy rain potentially in any storms. that's not zero percent chance of a tornado, but the fact that we would get a tornado this afternoon is very low. temperatures right now are in the 50s and 60s. a at the bus stop tomorrow, it's looking good on through dismissal. but it will be cooler. the high temperature today is going to be 80 degrees. tomorrow a high temperature of 69. so about ten degrees cooler. a nice day tomorrow. upper 60s on wednesday. thursday mid 60s. friday on through next weekend, high temperatures will be in the low 60s. that's about ten degrees below normal for this time of the year. melissa, it's been piles of money going into congress. >> hughes has to come back to d.c. in may for his next court hearing. it is now 4:48. right now in europe rescuers are looking for hundreds of people missing from a capsized ship. you can see the search efforts in the mediterranean off the coast of italy here. rescuers say there are potentially hundreds of people locked in the cargo hold of the ship trying to escape violence in africa. and several similar incidents more than 1,500 people have gone missing at sea in that area this year. today, hillary clinton is heading to new hampshire to try to recapture the magic of her come from behind victory there in 2008. she arrives in that state facing little opposition this time around. but advisers say she is determined to show she's not taking anything for granted. new hampshire is also the state where in 1992 bill clinton earned the nickname the comeback kid after his second place primary finish there. the state was packed with republican contenders over the weekend, however. they made criticizing clinton a big part of their speeches. well, now to a story that's generating a lot of buzz on our nbc washington facebook page. ben after flekt discovered his ancestors owned slaves and he asked them not to include that in his story. the host of the series "finding your roots" e-mailed back and forth debating whether to put that information in the story. the show left out that ancestral information. pbs released a statement saying it did not know the exchanges between the filmmaker, sony, and aflekt were happening. all right, caps fans we know you'll be glued to your tv tomorrow night. the caps play their next game against the new york islanders in the stanley cup playoffs. a 2-1 loss yesterday put the team down 2-1 in the series of heavy rain splitting frederick county and continuing down into parts of prince william county moving to the stafford area. again, this steady rain is out of here by about 7:00 a.m. and then our focus shifts to this afternoon when between 5:00 and 9:00 p.m. we could have some high winds that create some isolated damaging wind. can't rule out some hail, heavy rain potentially in any storms. that's not zero percent chance of a tornado, but the fact that we would get a tornado this afternoon is very low. temperatures right now are in the 50s and 60s. a at the bus stop tomorrow, it's looking good on through dismissal. but it will be cooler. the high temperature today is going to be 80 degrees. tomorrow a high temperature of 69. so about ten degrees cooler. a nice day tomorrow. upper 60s on wednesday. thursday mid 60s. friday on through next weekend, high temperatures will be in the low 60s. that's about ten degrees below normal for this time of the year. melissa, it's been a look at the pictures. the firefighters pulled the 19-week old pomeranian named blue from the pipe. he fell near blair high school. the crews fed him. they gave him oxygen while he was stuck. glad he made it out. thank you to the firefighters. well, the frenzy over a new line of items at target became so huge this weekend our own angie goff gave it the nickname pink sunday. online demand for the lilly pulitzer collection for target overwhelmed the website early sunday morning. many fans had stayed to shop on the unlimited edition. and they tweeted their frustration as they quickly sold out. i relief this summer. the average round trip domestic ticket is $454. if you fly to europe it will cost you $1,600 to fly across the atlantic. that's $50 less than last time. lowering fuel prices and more seats is bringing down the price. according to "the baltimore sun," the airport is adding two gates to the international e-concourse. there's already another multimillion dollar project in the
