Well talk about tomorrow and your 7day forecast. This morning, many people are digging out their cars and trucks buried under piles of snow. Some neighborhood streets have not been plowed. Take a look in rockville in montgomery county. We could see large patches of snow that started to refreeze when the sun went down. Also found an unattended car that was left running stuck in the snow and the driver and the friend finally move the car and they were able to get on their way. The recent snowfall pushed a lot of local governments to switch up their parking laws, like adding frederick, maryland, street parking. Routes are closed to accommodate those who park on those routes, the city opened up five public garages and will not be charging through Tuesday Morning at 6 00. If you find those garages are full, you can park in off street spots. This is going to allow the citys snow crews to clear the streets more efficiently. Just got this video in from overnight of an Apartment Fire that sent a firefighter to the hospital. At one point, 60 firefighters were on that scene. Were told one of the firefighters was hurt. But it might have been from slipping on ice. The people who live at that apartment were not at home at the time. The red cross was helping neighbors whose apartments were damaged. It could be a few hours before we know if there was any damage from an earthquake. The 4. 1 magnitude quake was centered in the town of edgefield, South Carolina. But it rattled homes as far away as atlanta. Crews will be out inspecting damage. It caught a lot of people off guard days after this weeks winter storm. Our call center here was overloaded with calls, 911 centers throughout South Carolina received a lot of calls about a rumbling, a train went by, some type of feeling. Now, to put the impact into perspective, the quake that hit the d. C. Region about 2 1 2 years ago was a little more powerful than this one, that one was a 5. 8 magnitude quake. Now to a developing story out of southeast d. C. Early this morning, an 8yearold little girl is recovering in the hospital. She was shot in the chest while walking home from her aunts house. This was near valley avenue and 13th street. News 4s Darcy Spencer has more on how the little girl is doing. These photos show a happy, vibrant 8yearold, but now that little girl, is fighting for her life. She was hit in the chest by a stray bullet outside her Apartment Building in southeast washington. Micayla going to be okay. Police are questioning two persons of interests, but still, no arrests. Shes a sweet little girl. Dont bother nobody. Reporter it was just after 3 00 in the afternoon when the shots rang out on valley avenue. She was hit once. Police sources say, she was not the intended target. Anybodys a target out here. To me. Because you never know, you know what im saying . You never know whats going to happen. Her grandmother says she was walking home from her aunts house from one building to the next here at the complex when she was shot. We have no suspects. At the time of the shooting, there was a group of folks running from the scene. The shooting took place within a secured area with an iron fence, gate and a guard shack. Many wonder how did the shooter get in . Most of the time the security does nothing but sit in that booth. Police are reviewing footage from surveillance cameras in the complex to see if they can identify the gunman. You thinking about moving . Yeah. Definitely. Definitely thinking about moving. And happening today, family and friends will say a final farewell to a music teacher shot and killed at her home in northern virginia. The funeral will happen this morning at 10 00 at the blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in alexandria. Police say she was killed when she received a knock at her door more than a week ago. The governor will head to new york for his mothers services next week. The funeral is set for wednesday. She was 92 years old. A virginia lawmaker calling for the impeachment of a federal judge who struck down a law. Samesex couples walked into the courthouse and asked for marriage licenses. They were denied. On thursday, a judge handed down her ruling striking down that ban. President obama nominated that judge in 2011, making her the first black woman to serve as a Federal District judge in virginia. The bill was cosponsored that led to the samesex marriage ban. 1. 3 million virginians voted for it back in 2006. She sweeps in here and says, hey, you dont count. I trump everybody. I find that astounding. She stuck to her ruling, meaning theres no change for samesex couples in the state. An appeal is expected. A big reveal happening today. Marys county, indeed, plenty of rain drops. Itll be mostly rain for you in st. Marys county and the rest in southern maryland. The back edge is about six to eight hours away from now, that puts the end of the rainsnow chance between noon and 2 00 and 3 00 today. Winter weather advisories posted to Northern Maryland and out toward the blue ridge and the shenandoah valley. Any accumulation of snow today should generally be one inch or less. Current temperatures, were above freezing, but you can still get snow at 35, 36 degrees. Most of the metro a coating to about an inch. You might do more in the one to two range. Any accumulations greater than 2 inches should really be confined to the northern parts of Frederick County out towards hagerstown and the panhandle of west virginia. Not looking for a big impact from this. But with the snow we had recently, a lot of folks are snow weary. Temperatures today wont budge much. Well stay generally in the 30s for most of the day. At least two events have been canceled due to the wintery weather, including a dance performance and a cookoff. But theres still fun to be had this weekend. And then on monday, a 30minute musical tribute will be played by members of our armed forces. And thats going to start at 1 00 in the afternoon. Admission is free to all the events happening this weekend. If d. C. Crews towed your car during the snow emergency, you may have to wait until tuesday to pick it up. The impound lot on Shepherd Parkway is closed for president s day weekend. For the cars that were not towed, we found drivers taking unique measures to save their parks spots on city streets. Lots of people use chairs to save their spaces, but we found all sorts of items. Stools, a ladder, a baby swing. This person put a Laundry Basket in their space. Seeing this one made us wonder where this person keeps their road barrel when its not saving their parking space. And we saw a lot of orange pylons. But not every pylon was used for saving a parking space. And just like there are lots of different items saving spaces, there are lots of different opinions on whether its the right thing to do. Youre really not supposed to do that. But lots of people understand why their neighbors want to claim their spaces. I can remember years ago, it got really vicious. And somebody did steal my spot. And it took me half the day to uncover that spot. And i was furious. I think people respectful enough to see if a space is dug out, theyre not going to park their car in there and leave you to find another spot. Thats the way the neighborhood works. This woman was reluctant to save the spot she dug out. I might because we have guests coming. And another issue for drivers. During the storm, hundreds of people came back to their Parking Spaces to find their cars had been impounded due to the snow emergency. The impound lot has closed until tuesday because of the threeday weekend. And there is a 20 a day storage fee at the impound lot if your car was towed to a private company. May be open this weekend and heads up, it is illegal to save parking spots in the district. We know whats going to happen to a d. C. Police officer who died after being arrested for child important. The medical examiner says that mark washingtons death was a inside. Back in december, washington was accused of coercing a 15yearold run away to take partially nude photos. Police then found hundreds of photos of other young girls. A week later on house arrest, his body was found and pulled from the Washington Channel near haines point. The medical examiner says washington intentionally drowned himself. Also new details in a notorious cold case. The fbi has received 75 tips since announcing welch as a connection to the disappearance. They disappeared almost 40 years ago. They have never been found. More muscles being moved, more calories being burned and more energy is being expelled. Reporter so we decided to see for ourselves using wireless heart rate monitors we track their progress. The different colors on the screen shows how much energy theyre exerting. In the beginning theyre in the gray zone only at about 45 of their maximum heart rate. But just a few minutes later, the colors change. Reggie is green, that means hes getting tired at 77 of his maximum heart rate. Challenging but doable. Roberta is at 84 . Starting to fatigue, the heart rate was definitely elevating, obviously. Our breathing was getting elevated, as well. Even though reggie and roberta are fitness professionals who work out a lot, the stress on their hearts more than doubled in just a few minutes of shoveling this heavy snow.
