And of his sons, brother paul scalia recently sat down and opened up about his fathers passing and talked about his new book. What are some of the memories that come back to you. Probably the dinner table. And i dont know if thats the same for all my siblings. My mom and dad put a priority on that. On having a family dinner, coming together and being together. The six of nine scalia kids, father paul scalia was a junior in high school when he dad was appointed to the u. S. Supreme court. It didnt matter what was going on on the court and things like that. When he came home he was there and we went through the things that fathers and sons go through. I remember one summer my brothers and i helped him to put in a front walkway, you know in front of the house. Not anything huge. It was not that big of a project. But there was a great satisfaction of doing this together. What about your mom . Well my mom is a reader. She reads a lot. Shes very well read. When i was in college i think for all of us she would write letters, before the internet, try to imagine that. But getting handwritten letters from mom i think every week. To all of the kids . To all of us, yeah. Father scalia says part of what inspired him to publish this, his first book. A collection of things over 17 years or so.
