Reporter aaron and erika, good morning, two victims in this fire, a man and woman, likely in their 30s or 40s or so and both now in Critical Condition rescued because the firefighters and one alert sheriffs deputy. Firefighters saving a woman from a burning twostory house. I happen to be coming northbound branch avenue and looked to the left of me and noticed aus with Child Support division of the office of the sheriff. The other as a volunteer firefighter. When he saw a burning house, he and fellow deputies sprang into action. The house fire off the 7200 block of the road was being called in with the wrong address. Knew that was wrong and to try to assist the firefighters, i immediately got on my radio and started to let them know it was off of stewart lane. The first thing i thought was dear god, i hope nobody is in the house. They noticed cars in the driveway but no one outside. Corporal russell helping firefighters break into the house. Reporter crews immediately found a gentleman inside unconscious. They also found that woman seen in this battalion footage. Both are recovering at this time in Critical Condition though the fire were told may have begun in the kitchen of this house and later spread. When the flames were going last night and even this morning with he literally a press conference just began here moments ago. The fire chief and director of public works, representative from the company that runs this facility, were expecting to get new information here. This is a tough fire. If you take a look, its inside a facility that turns trash into energy. It started at 9 00 last night and as you can see it is still smoldering. Imagine three stories of burning trash, contained inside a building without many windows. Thats what firefighters have been dealing with in lorton. This is what the blaze looked like last night. It lit up the sky and continued smoldering this morning. Too dangerous for firefighters to go inside. Smoke all type of Different Things burning inside there, theres a lot of different chemicals that we dont want to be in contact with. So we have to get this fire out and the main way to get it out it is called the covan ta waste to energy facility. It houses an incinerator and power plant and powers enough electricity to power 80,000 homes but it will be quite a while before things are back up and running. The damage is extensive. Ed graves has a warehouse not far away and wonders what will happen to all of the trash that is typically brought here. Theres over 150 trucks a day that pass by my warehouse that are taking the trash to and from this facility. Reporter going to be out of commission for a while. I dont know whats going to happen to the trucks and jobs, county is definitely going to have to find Something Else to do with all of the trash. This is my first reporter thats a good question, i did talk to the director of public works, instead of burning the trash brought here theyll have to haul it away fills they do have agreements with landfills in the area. Also something we just learned, they believe the fire started on the tipping floor and then extended to the holding pit which was filled to capacity with trash at the time. Now what sparked the fire, that is still under investigation. Obviously, the investigators have not been able to get inside the building as of yet. Back to you in the studio. Megan, thank you. Reporter more than 70 minority Police Officers have signed on to a complaint filed with the department of justice alleging discrimination within the Police Department. The number of people that was involved with it, you know, 50 to 63, and now were over 70. It has become a serious problem. The local chapters of the National Hispanic Law Enforcement association and united black Police Officers association filed a complaint in the department of justice spokesman released a statement saying that the department of justice is in receipt of correspondence from the Hispanic National Law Enforcement association about this matter. This time of year with the flu flying around, we want to make sure everybody starts with clean hands, washing for 20 seconds with soap and warm water and focusing on palms and in between fingers and ends of the fingers. For all cooks, great. Separating the food, youre going to have vegetable and meat and chicken wings and ribs, you cant keep it together, right . Correct. Over here were starting to were preparing our raw chicken wings. We always recommend one cutting board for raw meat and different from fruits and vegetables. For example, we never want to use this knife to then go cut our fruits and vegetables. And shouldnt cut raw meat on a wooden cutting board, right because it its definitely when youre done with cutting boards, make sure to clean them with soap and warm water as best you can and plastic ones wont absorb that. You have less bacteria and you have ribs over here. Another big thing were talking about is temperature. Correct. They look like they are done and then youre going to feed to 10 or 15 of your best friends which wont like you very much if they are not done right. Color is never a safe indicator of doneness. Your mvp for your Super Bowl Party needs to be your food thermometer. Make sure chicken wings gets to 165 degrees. 1645 for chicken wings. Avoid the bone and find the thickest part of the meat. Youll need to practice a little bit but thats the main part. A thicker cut of meat like ribs, what does that have to be cooked to . The whole cuts of red meat are 145 with a three minute rest. You temp it to 145 degrees and wait three minutes and go ahead and eat it. Aside from that, were going dip and a lot of milk based. What do i have to do for those to be safe . Cold perishable foods, keep those 40 degrees or below. The best way to do it with our dip over here, nest those in a bowl of ice. That way you keep it nice and cold and watch the ice. You dont want it to be watery and change the ice. If youre not going to be able to heat or chill the food while serving it, only keep it out for two hours. This sign should be posted at every day care and school and others not so much. How rude and insulting to parents. The reaction at her day care has been overwhelmingly positive.
