breaking news out of metro, news4's transportation reporter adam tuss broke the story 30 minutes ago. the transportation agency is eliminating 100 jobs. the positions being impacted include management and employees represented by a union. metro general manager paul wiedefeld has hinted in previous days of tough decisions that are coming because of the budget gap. the employees impacted today and are represend be able to apply for other jobs within the transit agency. news4's melissa millay is at the live desk with more. >> from the live desk, two people hurt in a csx train accident. take a look at the video just in. here's what we know. this collision took place at a track interlocking in chester, pennsylvania, they're still obviously on that train and are going to be there for some time. the train was traveling from headed from canada to atlanta. a total of four employees were on these two different trains here. two of them again had to be taken to the hospital. no word at this point on their injuries. as soon as we get any more information about this train accident we'll let you know. barbara? >> thanks, melissa. well today vice presidential candidate mike pence returns to the campaign trail after a rough landing in new york. it was raining outside when the indiana governor's campaign laguardia. more than 40 people were on board, but no one was hurt. the governor spoke on the "today show" saying he was grateful to everyone who has reached out. >> it was ten seconds of uncertainty. as the plane came down and we've just been so moved by the outpouring of concern and prayers, but we're all fine and ready to hit the campaign trail again today. >> it seemed like the first responders were literally around the airplane before it came to a plane recorded the rough landing. passengers say they felt the pilot slam on the brakes and could smell burning rubber. planes were prevented from landing or taking off at that airport for about an hour. there's no time for the candidates to slow down ahead of election day. america heads to the polls in 11 days. it's a busy weekend for the candidates and their teams. pence is expected to make stops in pennsylvania and north carolina today. trump has rallies in new hampshire an hillary clinton will be in iowa. and former president bill clinton will make several stops across pennsylvania. no snow on the ground yet, but one agency is getting a head start on precautions and preparations, prince george's county firms are hitting the streets this morning. >> it's kind of fun on this dry run. there on the front. all of this part of the county's efforts to make sure they know how and what to expect to clear those roads on a real snow day. >> the roads are clear on this morning. our driver, vanessa, has her hands firmly on the wheel of a big plow truck and at any moment she's ready to push the salt button. it comes out frash to treat the roads. she's been at this in these trucks r drive a snowplow. >> her plow is ready at any moment. on this dry run she's looking for potholes, manholes, anything that could be in the way along the route. her biggest issue, though, on a real snow day -- people in her way. >> staying out of the way. >> pedestrians staying out of the way. >> the dry run of drivers, roads, is their road map to success. >> really big deal and the key is to prepare. to be prepared before the winter season begins. >> when it snows, we want our roads to be cleared as soon as possible. and that's why this check that happens before sunrise is so important. so that the 150 drivers today checking their routes know what to expect when the real snow starts to fall. news4. we are actually going to warm up for this weekend. let's check in now with storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell. >> good morning, barbara. our camera, out here, tower camera doing the shimmy shimmy shake on a strong northwesterly wind this morning and into the afternoon. current wind speeds, 25 miles per hour down at national airport. so quite a breeze out there today. temperaturewise, we're going to stay on the cool side of average today. only to the upper 50s, maybe skies are mostly clear, they'll be crystal clear for your friday evening plans. temperatures into the mid 40s by 11:00 tonight. something is coming up on monday, hashtag #bekind. can you read those, barbara? be kind. >> that's great. i could not read it. i'll get my glasses. >> it will be clearer on social media. developing this morning, d.c. police are trying to track down a man they say stole an officer's gun. library closing up at the dorothy height benning neighborhood last night. the man went up to the officer, stole his gun and radio. the library is opening for early voting today. the search continues for two suspects allegedly involved in a sexual assault. police say it happened in the falls church area of fairfax county late saturday night. the 50-year-old woman didn't know her attackers. we're told the woman and restaurant. she said she was assaulted inside a van and threatened with a gun. the victim was forced outside of the van along route 50. the man accused of brutally murdering a d.c. family and setting their home on fire will be in the court. it was one of the biggest stories in our care when it broke in may of 2015, daron wint is accused of killing this couple, their child and their housekeeper at a mansion in northwest d.c. d.c. police charged wint with the help of a dna from a slice of pizza that was found at the scene. wint pleaded not guilty to 20 felony charges earlier this year. metro track safetrack surges phase 10 will be under way. for 24 days there will be no noma gallday. >> the marine corps marathon is only days away, news4's megan mcgrath joins us live from clarendon. >> of course the marine corps marathon is on national harbor. but through a special promotion, some folks are picking up their pain work here and numbers at pacer's world in arlington. runners, metro is not opening early on sunday. so you're going to have to make arrangements, if you live or work along the marathon route, there will be lots of road closures. number and packet at pacer's running this morning, he came from st. louis to run the marine corps marathon and he's ready to go. >> i've done new york and chicago and this is next up. the weather is going to be great and i'm excited to see all the monuments. >> 30,000 runners are participating. all hoping to go the distance. but for this year's marine corps marathon getting there may prove to be a challenge, too. unlike previous years, metro will not be ferry runners to the starting line. and phase 10 of safetrack means the brookland and rhode island avenue stations on the red line will be closed. heather jaf is is running this year, while she lives nearby, she wishes metro could be more accommodating to the thousands of people who don't. >> i know metro is having trouble. i wouldn't want to be in charge of metro for sure. but it will be really nice if they could accommodate the people who need it. be mindful of road and bridge closures. there will be a lot of them. just look at the map. busy sections of arlington and d.c. will be affected. so you have to plan ahead. >> well i work in georgetown, so it will make it a little more difficult for me to get into the office. i don't know which roads will be closed, i'll have to make do with whatever it is. >> and to move people around, they're going to be a shuttle buses and there are going to be kiss and run drop-off areas and uber zones. we have a complete list, everything you need to know on our app, nbc washington app. and we're expecting to learn more about the transportation plan and how people with get around after a press conference at 12:00 p.m. this afternoon. back to you. news4's jim hanley will be at the marathon for the start and finish. are at the race, join us at mile marker number 4 to cheer on the runners. >> these guys only have a couple of days to get their game faces on, the redskins are in london for their royal road trip. you're looking at new video of the team practicing today in london. they're taking on the a 9:30 a.m. game. when they got into heathrow this morning about 2:30 fans were there waiting for them. >> i mean i've been following this team since before i could walk. i've been going to games my whole life and flew you know thousands of miles to come see them. >> i don't know if we get this kind of opportunity to see the guys, how often do you get the chance to walk past kirk cousins in the street. >> the players stuck around, signed autographs, took pictures all kinds of stuff on social media how excited they are, photos with fans and a video of somebody sleeping. our favorite one is the video of kirk cousins that you see there in multiple corners, he's asking, are you fond of that? >> sure so actually the bouquet that inspired me to reach out to laura initially was in the red room of the white house. we decided to take inspiration from the historic rooms of the white house. this bouquet is inspired by the red room. >> we have our red roses here. >> i love the color kbangs, it speaks to white house history. jackie kennedy founded the color for the red rooms were creams and dusty colors. >> she had so much style. >> but we wanted to incorporate the deep, rich red that matches the walls of the room and the furnishings, so it's a combination of influences and inspiration that i think is really great. >> really looks nice. >> what other flowers go in your collection? >> the blue room bouquet. this is an important one. it's the really centerpiece of the white house, sos on the tours, it's important for the holidays. and we wanted to do something really colorful. and so it's complementary colors, tons of texture, roses and hydrangea and i really love the colors in this. >> i love the colors in this one. the blue room is sort of central like laura said in the middle of the white house and the christmas tree goes up in the blue room every year. we took a lot of inspiration. sort of light lavender purple and the thistle and dell fin yum, lots of different textures. >> and a butterfly this is sort of the special thing for each bouquet, the orchid functions as a butterfly that just kind of floats above the flowers. >> it's in water and we'll keep it fresh for a long time. >> i love that both of yo was not your career. this was you dreamt about this and now you're living your dream, can which is so wonderful. >> also come from a policy background and had a whole other career, i went to paris and was inspired by french flower design. i started studying flowers in paris and had been working with a part-time studio for only a few years when my husband encouraged me to apply for the white house job. so it sort of unheard of to send in a resum? >> this is called slow-cook pork egg benedict. >> we take confit pork butt. nine hours low temperature. really really soft confit. you mean you're boiling it? >> cooked in its own fat. >> so it never -- it never boils but it cooks at a very low temperature so the meat is sew soft and tender when he it's >> so then we're going to take your english muffin and take some iver, a very traditional balkan spread made of roasted red peppers and eggplant. >> roasted red peppers and eggplant. >> it has spices and other vegetables. but based on red pepper and eggplant. >> what is it again? >> iver. >> that goes on the english muffin. and take your sauteed pork. get a little crispy o with the crispy texture on the outside. >> it looks delicious. that's going to go in your muffin there. >> and what, what do you top that with something else? >> we're going to get your poached egg here. >> i see. >> so yeah, this is balkan twist on a classic brunch. item. so with the iver and the egg? >> poached. it's still soft. >> and then topped with a chaimic sauce. it has herbs, and clotted cream, another very traditional balkan item. it's chaimic, somewhere in between cheese and butter. very rich, incredible flavo something you'll find in the balkan region. we use it in our >> and i see some greens. >> parsley, chives and other herbs. >> and we finish it with a mixed green salad here. >> it certainly is pretty. >> and smoky balkan hash, which is roasted potatoes with guajillo chi chiles. >> you tell me you're from mississippi. or you just like the food? >> now there is because i've been to serbia a couple of times to do research and bring back items for the new restaurant so i've got friends and family over in serbia, just from going over there. they're so hospitable and such nice people that i still keep in touch with some of them. >> i see you've brought a couple of things, something with sausages and that same hash i guess. >> i did, so these are some of the new items you'll only find at thel the balkan kabob and eggs. it's something very unique for us and very important. this is the slow-cooked pork benedict that we just demoed. just on a different plate and this is the anbar salad, some poached vegetables with cherries and poppyseed dressing. >> chef chris hawkins, thanks so much for coming. anbar restaurant in clarendon. more money be hanging in your closet? breaking news out of metro, news4's transportation reporter adam tuss broke the story 30 minutes ago. the transportation agency is eliminating 100 jobs. the positions being impacted include management and employees represented by a union. metro general manager paul wiedefeld has hinted in previous days of tough decisions that are coming because of the budget gap. the employees impacted today and are represend be able to apply for other jobs within the transit agency. news4's melissa millay is at the live desk with more. >> from the live desk, two people hurt in a csx train accident. take a look at the video just in. here's what we know. this collision took place at a track interlocking in chester, pennsylvania, they're still obviously on that train and are going to be there for some time. the train was traveling from headed from canada to atlanta. a total of four employees were on these two different trains here. two of them again had to be taken to the hospital. no word at this point on their injuries. as soon as we get any more information about this train accident we'll let you know. barbara? >> thanks, melissa. well today vice presidential candidate mike pence returns to the campaign trail after a rough landing in new york. it was raining outside when the indiana governor's campaign laguardia. more than 40 people were on board, but no one was hurt. the governor spoke on the "today show" saying he was grateful to everyone who has reached out. >> it was ten seconds of uncertainty. as the plane came down and we've just been so moved by the outpouring of concern and prayers, but we're all fine and ready to hit the campaign trail again today. >> it seemed like the first responders were literally around the airplane before it came to a plane recorded the rough landing. passengers say they felt the pilot slam on the brakes and could smell burning rubber. planes were prevented from landing or taking off at that airport for about an hour. there's no time for the candidates to slow down ahead of election day. america heads to the polls in 11 days. it's a busy weekend for the candidates and their teams. pence is expected to make stops in pennsylvania and north carolina today. trump has rallies in new hampshire an hillary clinton will be in iowa. and former president bill clinton will make several stops across pennsylvania. no snow on the ground yet, but one agency is getting a head start on precautions and preparations, prince george's county firms are hitting the streets this morning. >> it's kind of fun on this dry run. there on the front. all of this part of the county's efforts to make sure they know how and what to expect to clear those roads on a real snow day. >> the roads are clear on this morning. our driver, vanessa, has her hands firmly on the wheel of a big plow truck and at any moment she's ready to push the salt button. it comes out frash to treat the roads. she's been at this in these trucks r drive a snowplow. >> her plow is ready at any moment. on this dry run she's looking for potholes, manholes, anything that could be in the way along the route. her biggest issue, though, on a real snow day -- people in her way. >> staying out of the way. >> pedestrians staying out of the way. >> the dry run of drivers, roads, is their road map to success. >> really big deal and the key is to prepare. to be prepared before the winter season begins. >> when it snows, we want our roads to be cleared as soon as possible. and that's why this check that happens before sunrise is so important. so that the 150 drivers today checking their routes know what to expect when the real snow starts to fall. news4. we are actually going to warm up for this weekend. let's check in now with storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell. >> good morning, barbara. our camera, out here, tower camera doing the shimmy shimmy shake on a strong northwesterly wind this morning and into the afternoon. current wind speeds, 25 miles per hour down at national airport. so quite a breeze out there today. temperaturewise, we're going to stay on the cool side of average today. only to the upper 50s, maybe skies are mostly clear, they'll be crystal clear for your friday evening plans. temperatures into the mid 40s by 11:00 tonight. something is coming up on monday, hashtag #bekind. can you read those, barbara? be kind. >> that's great. i could not read it. i'll get my glasses. >> it will be clearer on social media. developing this morning, d.c. police are trying to track down a man they say stole an officer's gun. library closing up at the dorothy height benning neighborhood last night. the man went up to the officer, stole his gun and radio. the library is opening for early voting today. the search continues for two suspects allegedly involved in a sexual assault. police say it happened in the falls church area of fairfax county late saturday night. the 50-year-old woman didn't know her attackers. we're told the woman and restaurant. she said she was assaulted inside a van and threatened with a gun. the victim was forced outside of the van along route 50. the man accused of brutally murdering a d.c. family and setting their home on fire will be in the court. it was one of the biggest stories in our care when it broke in may of 2015, daron wint is accused of killing this couple, their child and their housekeeper at a mansion in northwest d.c. d.c. police charged wint with the help of a dna from a slice of pizza that was found at the scene. wint pleaded not guilty to 20 felony charges earlier this year. metro track safetrack surges phase 10 will be under way. for 24 days there will be no noma gallday. >> the marine corps marathon is only days away, news4's megan mcgrath joins us live from clarendon. >> of course the marine corps marathon is on national harbor. but through a special promotion, some folks are picking up their pain work here and numbers at pacer's world in arlington. runners, metro is not opening early on sunday. so you're going to have to make arrangements, if you live or work along the marathon route, there will be lots of road closures. number and packet at pacer's running this morning, he came from st. louis to run the marine corps marathon and he's ready to go. >> i've done new york and chicago and this is next up. the weather is going to be great and i'm excited to see all the monuments. >> 30,000 runners are participating. all hoping to go the distance. but for this year's marine corps marathon getting there may prove to be a challenge, too. unlike previous years, metro will not be ferry runners to the starting line. and phase 10 of safetrack means the brookland and rhode island avenue stations on the red line will be closed. heather jaf is is running this year, while she lives nearby, she wishes metro could be more accommodating to the thousands of people who don't. >> i know metro is having trouble. i wouldn't want to be in charge of metro for sure. but it will be really nice if they could accommodate the people who need it. be mindful of road and bridge closures. there will be a lot of them. just look at the map. busy sections of arlington and d.c. will be affected. so you have to plan ahead. >> well i work in georgetown, so it will make it a little more difficult for me to get into the office. i don't know which roads will be closed, i'll have to make do with whatever it is. >> and to move people around, they're going to be a shuttle buses and there are going to be kiss and run drop-off areas and uber zones. we have a complete list, everything you need to know on our app, nbc washington app. and we're expecting to learn more about the transportation plan and how people with get around after a press conference at 12:00 p.m. this afternoon. back to you. news4's jim hanley will be at the marathon for the start and finish. are at the race, join us at mile marker number 4 to cheer on the runners. >> these guys only have a couple of days to get their game faces on, the redskins are in london for their royal road trip. you're looking at new video of the team practicing today in london. they're taking on the a 9:30 a.m. game. when they got into heathrow this morning about 2:30 fans were there waiting for them. >> i mean i've been following this team since before i could walk. i've been going to games my whole life and flew you know thousands of miles to come see them. >> i don't know if we get this kind of opportunity to see the guys, how often do you get the chance to walk past kirk cousins in the street. >> the players stuck around, signed autographs, took pictures all kinds of stuff on social media how excited they are, photos with fans and a video of somebody sleeping. our favorite one is the video of kirk cousins that you see there in multiple corners, he's asking, are you fond of that? >> sure so actually the bouquet that inspired me to reach out to laura initially was in the red room of the white house. we decided to take inspiration from the historic rooms of the white house. this bouquet is inspired by the red room. >> we have our red roses here. >> i love the color kbangs, it speaks to white house history. jackie kennedy founded the color for the red rooms were creams and dusty colors. >> she had so much style. >> but we wanted to incorporate the deep, rich red that matches the walls of the room and the furnishings, so it's a combination of influences and inspiration that i think is really great. >> really looks nice. >> what other flowers go in your collection? >> the blue room bouquet. this is an important one. it's the really centerpiece of the white house, sos on the tours, it's important for the holidays. and we wanted to do something really colorful. and so it's complementary colors, tons of texture, roses and hydrangea and i really love the colors in this. >> i love the colors in this one. the blue room is sort of central like laura said in the middle of the white house and the christmas tree goes up in the blue room every year. we took a lot of inspiration. sort of light lavender purple and the thistle and dell fin yum, lots of different textures. >> and a butterfly this is sort of the special thing for each bouquet, the orchid functions as a butterfly that just kind of floats above the flowers. >> it's in water and we'll keep it fresh for a long time. >> i love that both of yo was not your career. this was you dreamt about this and now you're living your dream, can which is so wonderful. >> also come from a policy background and had a whole other career, i went to paris and was inspired by french flower design. i started studying flowers in paris and had been working with a part-time studio for only a few years when my husband encouraged me to apply for the white house job. so it sort of unheard of to send in a resum? >> this is called slow-cook pork egg benedict. >> we take confit pork butt. nine hours low temperature. really really soft confit. you mean you're boiling it? >> cooked in its own fat. >> so it never -- it never boils but it cooks at a very low temperature so the meat is sew soft and tender when he it's >> so then we're going to take your english muffin and take some iver, a very traditional balkan spread made of roasted red peppers and eggplant. >> roasted red peppers and eggplant. >> it has spices and other vegetables. but based on red pepper and eggplant. >> what is it again? >> iver. >> that goes on the english muffin. and take your sauteed pork. get a little crispy o with the crispy texture on the outside. >> it looks delicious. that's going to go in your muffin there. >> and what, what do you top that with something else? >> we're going to get your poached egg here. >> i see. >> so yeah, this is balkan twist on a classic brunch. item. so with the iver and the egg? >> poached. it's still soft. >> and then topped with a chaimic sauce. it has herbs, and clotted cream, another very traditional balkan item. it's chaimic, somewhere in between cheese and butter. very rich, incredible flavo something you'll find in the balkan region. we use it in our >> and i see some greens. >> parsley, chives and other herbs. >> and we finish it with a mixed green salad here. >> it certainly is pretty. >> and smoky balkan hash, which is roasted potatoes with guajillo chi chiles. >> you tell me you're from mississippi. or you just like the food? >> now there is because i've been to serbia a couple of times to do research and bring back items for the new restaurant so i've got friends and family over in serbia, just from going over there. they're so hospitable and such nice people that i still keep in touch with some of them. >> i see you've brought a couple of things, something with sausages and that same hash i guess. >> i did, so these are some of the new items you'll only find at thel the balkan kabob and eggs. it's something very unique for us and very important. this is the slow-cooked pork benedict that we just demoed. just on a different plate and this is the anbar salad, some poached vegetables with cherries and poppyseed dressing. >> chef chris hawkins, thanks so much for coming. anbar restaurant in clarendon. more money be hanging in your closet? >> it's one of our most popular events that we do as the european union with our 28 member countries. bringing children's performers from europe and movies to entertain and hopefully educate children here in d.c. we are all kinds ofn clowns to puppets to movies, to music. you've seen this fascinating belgian trio that will be playing tomorrow at the strathmore. you may need to reserve some things, so go online to eurokids.org. >> how do you choose the entertainers who will come here? >> basically we leave that to our member states. decide each year who they would like to showcase as their them to come here and as i say, sometimes it's movies, sometimes it's music. sometimes it's theater or circus clowns or whatever. and it's always a fun moment. >> that was certainly interesting that we just heard, the belgian trio. what ages do you expect to come? >> well it's for all ages. but i mean from we have events for very young children and then events that might interest people in their young teens. so and i think adults as well. would also enjoy it. >> i understand you've got screenings. all kinds of things going on. >> it's a very diverse program. i think there's something in it for everyone. parents with young children who would like to det them out of the house to see them entertained. to children who are a little bit older, this is a different culture. it's a great way to showcase european talent and the diversity of our culture across our 28 nations. >> i stun it's free but you need >> it's all free, some events require reservation. that's why i recommended going to the website. kids eurofestival.org. there's also some social media activity. which involves taking photos or playing some games and you can get some goodie bags as part of the fun. >> saw some of the things that are going to be in the goody bag. >> it makes it more interesting. european festival go? >> we do this every year. this is as you say, our ninth year, we try to make it a bit different every year. so this will be running through to november 6th. and then we'll start planning for next year. >> so exciting, i can't wait to hear more about it, i'd love to come and see some of the things, the workshops sound very exciting. ambassador david o'sullivan. thank you so much for coming to festival 2016. >> thank you very much. we check in with chuck once more to take a look at the time forecast, warm temperatures this weekend. chuck? >> the peak of the fall foliage across much of the shenandoah valley and northern maryland is going to be this weekend. can you look at the leaves while wearing shorts and short sleeves this weekend. temperatures will be well into the 70s for especially sunday afternoon. even in the high spots out north and west of town. well into the 70s on sunday. any tiny chance for rain?
