You see this crew from the tree service just finishing up. That doesnt look like a lot of work, but i tell you it was a lot of work here to get big trees off of houses and reduced them pretty much now to chips. But its been a tough morning for these guys. Take a listen. The damage in this Silver Spring neighborhood runs the gamut. Some residents saw little to moderate damage, mostly branches. Mostly branches here too. The problem is it was still attached to the tree when they came down. The shadegiving days are over for this one. Thtr neighbors yard. Before crashing down on his roof, it did a number to this back porch. Its been heck all morning. This is a mess. Reporter this oak couldnt stand up to the high winds, it snapped like a pencil and left its mark on the roof of this home. They have got an armada of machines to deal with this, including a crane. But this will take a while. That will take two cranes. Reporter much of these were shade providers. A road is closed, taking down power lines with them. In the district some residents of o street southwest will take a walk through the woods just to get out of their homes only to see what damage was done to their cars. More trees went down, oaks, elms, big and bigger, all fell victim to the wind. If youve done this for nearly 50 years, even though it means work you hate to see the big ones lost. Right now commuters in virginia will have to deal with longer waits on the orange and silver lines. Metros fifth safety surge began today between ballston and east falls church. That means continuous single tracking along those lines so crews can replace deteriorating wooden rail ties underneath. Even as metro gets to work on its next safetrack sur along the section of the track that was supposed to already be fixed. The problem was outside the stadium armory station. Its affecting the blue, orange and silver lines along the section of track known as the d g junction. Eight separate switch problems have meant delays in unscheduled track work. In an effort to keep kids safe from skin cancer, a new law starts today which will keep young people out of tanning salons in montgomery county. Today a tanning ban goes into effect in the county for children under 18. In April Montgomery county became the second county in the state to ban indoor tanning to minors. Funeral services for baton rouge officer Matthew Gerald will happen on friday and montrell jacksons funeral is set for monday. In news for your health a new report shows the deadliest form of Prostate Cancer is on the rise. Theres been a 72 increase in advance cancer cases in just the last decade. The largest surge is among men 55 to 69 years old. Doctors believe the problem is twofold. The disease is turning more aggressive and fewer men are getting screened. In my mind the data is very clear that screening for Prostate Cancer saves lives. The American Cancer Society recommends men with an average risk get screened starting at the age of 50.
