we begin "news4 midday" with this breaking news. a crash that will cause major problems for anybody headed to the eastern shore. take a look at the live pictures. a truck crashed on the eastbound span of the bridge and it just re-opened right now. >> the truck dangling over the side of the bridge. and the traffic was opened in both directions on the westbound span and the eastbound responsible should be opened again, and we'll keep you updated. remember to follow me on first alert traffic on twitter for updates. lincoln chafee is out of the presidential race. he made this announcement here in d.c. this morning at the democratic national committee's leadership forum. he never gained traction against hillary clinton and bernie sanders, and he made it clear he will support the party going forward. >> we all know that the republican agenda sets back women's rights and i pledge all my energy towards a big 2016 victory for democrats across the country. the gates just opened at the top of the hour for a campaign event for hillary clinton. she is stopping in alexandria, and the rally begins at 12:30 at market square. it's official, paul ryan in the race for speaker of the house. he announced his candidacy, and his announcement comes a day after receiving report across the board from the gop. developing right now -- people in mexico are preparing for a huge hurricane to hit. hurricane patricia is a category 5. take a look. the biggest storm of recorded in the western hemisphere. the director of the mexican water agency said today the storm is so strong it could flip cars and level homes or drag you up the street, pretty ominous forecast possibilities. >> mexico, unfortunately, is going to be getting hit by patricia, and i think the affects are going to be catastroph catastrophic. lots of wind and rain, and back here we're talking about quiet weather across the area, and much cooler temperatures than what we saw yesterday. beautiful fall colors starting to show looking north and plenty of sunshine with the temperature right now of 65, and as we work our way into the afternoon hours, temperatures continue to hover into the mid and upper 60s, so 10 degrees cooler than yesterday, and this is right where we should be for this time of year, beautiful fall weather. we are looking at more clouds as we head into the weekend and i will let you know what to expect as far as temperatures go coming up in the forecast. breaking news at a high school in montgomery county. a student reported seeing another student with a gun and the police have talked to both students and no gun has been found. police also adding they do believe everybody is safe, barbara. >> back to you. right now in nashville a search for a suspect under way after a deadly fight on the campus. according to police, it started with a fight over a dice game last night. tsu was locked down, but that's over now, and the school originally said on campus activities had been cancelled and we later learned the campus is operating normally today. the blue line running smoothly after a rough morning commute. and commuters on the blue line were forced to switch over to yellow. metro made shuttle bus service available because it had to stop trains in that area. a man that appeared on fox news channel as a former cia operative pleaded not guilty, and he was able to get several security clearances. he has also been arrested for assault, and drunk driving and multiple firearms violations. a d.c. man that works in the mayor's office religious affairs is being released to a supervision program. he is accused of selling cocaine and crack and heroin in front of his home in southeast d.c. the mayor says she doesn't know saunders but sold news4 he will be held to a higher standard. a man is dead and two teenagers recovering from a crash last night. a 20-year-old was driving the car, and he was killed in the crash. the 16-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl are recovering. no other cars were involved in the crash and investigators are looking to see if speed or alcohol led to the crash. some changes you need to know about on metro this weekend. if you are headed to the marine corps marathon, metro will be opening two hours early. red line trains will operate every 18 minutes and green line every 16, and original and silver and blue line trains running every 6 and no track work on sunday. and a crash on the bay bridge and a truck hanging over the edge. the problems from this could last for quite a while. keep it right here on "news4 midday." we're back in 50 seconds. we're learning more developments now about a horrific crash. 42 people died when a logging bus and bus slammed into each other this morning. the bus was taking retirees on a day trip, and nine people made it out alive and many of those had bad burns and other injuries. there's now an investigation into how this happened. we know the name of the army soldier who died on a rescue mission in iraq. master sergeant joshua wheeler died. he was shot while on a mission to rescue 70 iraqi prisoners yesterday. wheeler is the first u.s. soldier to died in a combat operation against isis. and then 21-year-old dylan roof, his trial is scheduled for next year. rolling stone magazine wants a judge to dismiss a defamation lawsuit. the fraternity members of suing for $75,000, arguing they could be identified by an article about an alleged rain on campus. "rolling stone" apologized after finding questionable facts in the story. we are already tracking a chance of rain for your weekend. meteorologist, today in the 60s with plenty of sunshine, and we'll start off with sun and finish with clouds and cool temperatures tomorrow. in the mid-60s, similar to today just a few degrees cooler. overall a nice autumn day. i think saturday will be the better of the two weekend days. the chance of a shower, and plenty of clouds throughout the day and a high temperature around 66. if you have plans out, have an umbrella handy but it's one of those days where you may not to use it. good college football games going on tomorrow. pretty mild in blacksburg, melissa. family and friends will gather to remember an 80-year-old man found dead in prince georges county. he was found dead in a park after wondering away from an assistant living facilities picnic. he suffered with dementia, and he asked to use the rest room and was not found alive. offering a $1 bill after a competitor jacked up its prices. they increased the price of a drug from $13 a bill to $750 a pill. san diego based pharmaceutical said it could make a close version of the drug for $1 a pill. thousands of runners and a whole lot of traffic headaches. we will show you the breaking news on the roads right now. the eastbound span of the bay bridge is open again. you are looking at a live picture of it on your left there. on the right, the scene for hours after a truck flipped and almost went off the bridge. it has been cleared away now. traffic is now open on both sides but there are still delays out there. at the live desk now, we are following a shooting in southwest d.c. in the 1400 block of 1st street. police got there and found a man shot around 9:00 this morning. he was taken to the hospital, and no word at this point on how he is doing and police have not given us any suspect information. back to you. this sunday thousands will gather for the annual marine corps marathon. >> crews are hard at work setting up for the big event. the race begins in virginia and works its way into the district, and ends at the marine corps in arlington. molette. >> reporter: you see the mile markers behind me over here, and then we have the spectator stands where workers have been busy throughout the morning putting up the signs and banners, and you know, sometimes big names show up to run, former gop vice presidential candidate had to drop out a couple weeks ago, but this is also known as the peoples' marathon and it's personal for everyone who runs it. all around the marine corps memorial, you see workers preparing for sunday's 40th marathon. >> as of today we are 90% ready. >> reporter: for the 30,000-plus runners that registered, shawna scott is here from st. louis to run the 26.2 miles for the second time. >> i am running for the wear blue organization. >> reporter: fallen army shoulders she never knew, she will use their sacrifice to get through the toughest part of the course. >> mile 18, and sometimes 22 and mile 23, and last time i was here i had blisters and had to run a couple miles without my shoes and that's why i am back, i want to do it with my shoes the whole time. >> reporter: there's a slight change between miles 22 and 23, no u-turn on crystal drive. >> it's hard to make a you turn. >> i love the marine corps marathon. i love the corps their phaumarathon, and we can't rule out a shower during the race x although the threat is small, it's a nuisance on sunday. 6:00 a.m., this is going to be bring in a lot of rain throughout the news right now. chopper 4 over clarksburg high school in montgomery county. a student reported seeing another student with a gun there and police tell us they have talked to both students involved and no gun has been found and they believe everybody is safe, and keep it right here for updates. pieces of debris are washing up in the bahamas, and the coast guard said it could be from the cargo ship. the ntsb says if so it wants to document the debris. it went down during hurricane joaquin. 25 americans and five polish members died, and the serial number of one of the largest debris match as container that was on that ship. new at midday, we learned this man was arrested and charged with rape. detectives tracked him down in baltimore and said he was planning to run to mexico soon. he is in jail in annapolis right now. as many as six armed robberies in one hour had neighbors so nervous they are ready to move. the circles on the map show you where the attacks happened in the navy guard capitol hill area on wednesday night, and police are not releasing details on who could be behind them or if they are linked and one man said three young men approached him and threatened him with a gun and robbed him. we have news of a recall for takata airbags. the investigation is now including side airbags, too. more than 19 million cars were recalled and at least seven people died and almost 100 have been hurt. and then the supervisors voted to amend the county's position to support the purchase of the 14-mile highway. they would support time based tolling on that road. right now drivers pay one amount no matter how far they travel on the road. the song everybody is saying hello to this morning, here are just some of the stories lighting up the social media this morning. next month widespread flooding. there are reports of high wind and lightning as well, and millions of people under a flash flood warning there, and emergency teams rescued dozens of people from the weather. and five starbucks stores in the district may soon have franchises to serve booze and it's a effort to bring more people in at night and it will allow the coffee shop to serve more savory meals starting at 2:00 in the afternoon. two of the stores are in the dupont circle area, and the other two are in georgetown and penn quarter. millions of people finding themselves in the path of an unprecedented storm. a truck dangled off the side of one of the biggest bridges in our area, and more on this traffic is completely clear right now on the chesapeake bay bridge. the eastbound span was shut down for hours after a truck crashed and almost went off the side of the bridge and it was cleared away about a half hour ago. emergency switch repairs outside pentagon station forced commuters on the blue line to switch over to the yellow line and shuttle buses were the backup for a bit this morning. two people are still recovering and now police are looking for a suspect in a school shooting in tennessee. they say somebody shot four people on campus at tennessee state university last night, and one victim who was not a student died. hurricane patricia is fully expected to take catastrophic landfalls tonight. it's the strongest storm ever tracked in the eastern pacific and atlantic. right now the category 5 hurricane is moving towards mexico's pacific coast, and near the resort area of poor tr puer vallarta is setting up shelters. it's expected to make landfall sometime this evening. back to you. storm team 4 is close to sending out it's winter forecast today. the annual snow and ice dry run started before the sun came up this morning in prince georges county and we followed one driver along his route. >> follow the news, because the news people have good access and they will tell you the weather and the events we are going to have prior to coming and pushing snow. >> terrell started with the county more than nine years ago. he says the most important aspect of his job is to keep alert and well rested. talking about the weather here today, it's beautiful and plenty of sunshine and highs will warm into the mid and upper 60s and a high in the district of 69, and leesburg 68, cooler north and west, hagerstown, a high temperature of 63 and we'll take it. a walk to end hiv happening tomorrow, and want to wish melissa the best of luck as she takes on her first 5k. it's going to be chilly for the race especially if you are not -- excuse me, if you are planning on walking instead of running, you want to dress in multiple layers, and 7:00 a.m., looking at a temperature of 47 degrees and by 9:00, 49, and by 11:00, a temperature of 54 degrees. we're looking at the chance of showers on sunday and i'll have more on that coming up in ten minutes. saturday morning thousands of people from across the country will be here in washington to raise awareness for hiv. among those walking, an activist who is on this week's edition of "metro weekly." he is in our studio am excited. >> tell us about why it's important for you to be part of this event and why it's important to raise awareness? >> it has become a part of this year that i am going to have. i am going to try and get to as many things as possible and hiv is still a big problem and we need to continue to look at it and continue to help make things better and to get people on board to continue to take care of themselves, and it's a lot easier to handle hiv, and that can lead to complacency. getting people back on board to make sure they are doing everything to prevent themselves from getting hiv. >> you said it's a big year from you, and what do you hope to achieve with your personal message? >> the number one thing is to sort of show people the example of what can happen if you mix drugs and unsafe sex, and then talking about being undetectable and what that means, and making sure people understand the concept, because if you can get people to understand the concept you can make hiv less scary and that makes it easier for people to come out and talk about it and ending the stigma. >> and then one of the highlights is a special honor, and what does this award mean to you? >> it means everything. they called me right after the oprah show, and so it was just this very fulfilling moment that i had actually done the right thing and people were already willing to recognize the bravery that it took to come out and talk about these things. e it was a brave moment to open up about your personal story. what is something you hope everybody can get out of this weekend and this walk? >> i hope to get across the area that hiv is the new closet, and it's time to get hiv positive to get to that place, so they can get tested and take care of themselves and become healthy and clean and not reactions that occurred in students with no known allergies, and close to 22% of reactions were first-time allergies. experts say this shows the need for even greater access in other places for those epi pens. a stand-up idea that could make a jump from the office to the classroom easier skpbgs that's comi vo: does hal parrish share our values? as mayor, parrish cut school funding nearly three million dollars. reading and science scores fell. parrish said no to opening new women's health clinics, denying access to cancer screenings and breast exams. so instead of dealing with the economy and jobs, parrish will join with the richmond extremists to slash education and threaten women's health care. hal parrish -- too extreme for virginia. feinblatt: everytown for gun safety action fund sponsored this ad. launching a private elementary school in east palo alto. it's set to open in 2016 and will target 700 of the most disadvantaged in the neighborhood. in 2010 they donated $100 now. check this out, researchers are testing outstanding desks at the school in northern california and the principal has one, too. school administrators said they tried standing desks last year and researchers confirmed getting kids to move can help them learn, and students do have an option to sit if they are tired and there's a tpeupblgit bar so something they can mess with if they feel like all three of the remaining democratic candidates were at the district or in the district today. martin o'malley, bernie stan tkurz and hillary clinton spoke at the women's leadership forum here in the district. clinton, it's her first day back on the campaign trail since the benghazi hearing. yesterday she was testifying before the committee investigating the deadly attacks that killed four americans. and the question be finally rapped up pretty late last night. >> it was after 9:00 last night our time when this wrapped up, republicans asking over and over why clinton did not send more security when her team was asking for it. >> after 11 hours, republicans admit they didn't learn much. >> i don't know that she testified that much differently today than the previous time she testified. >> it went on and on and on. >> how late are we going tonight? >> so long at one point, clinton could barely talk. this time clinton kept her cool. >> i've done everything i know to do. >> republicans honed in on e-mails, what is there and what is missing. >> i didn't conduct the business that i did primarily on e-mail. >> it's not a matter if you knew about them, it's a matter of what you did about them. and to us, the answer to that is nothing. >> democrats accused of republican chair of creating an unnecessary show. >> clinton focused on the four americans killed in the 2012 attacks in benghazi. >> i have lost more sleep than all of you put together. >> you need to make sure the entire record is correct. >> that's kpagtly what i want to do. >> hundreds of security requests from ambassador stevens never reached clinton's desk. >> you are testifying none of those reached your desk, is that correct? >> that's correct. >> still no resolution. >> and even though university is open and running normally after a shooting on the campus overnight. national police say they are still looking for the shooter and the shooting started over a fight over a dice game. a man not a student died and three students were shot and are recovering right now. we have a lot of road closures happening this weekend because of two different big events in the district. let's start by talking about saturday here. the walk to end hiv, road closures start friday night at 7:00 p.m. and go until saturday at 2:00 p.m., and pennsylvania avenue northwest, and constitution northwest from 7th to 3rd, and we'll have the full list on nbc washingtons.com, and on our app. the red line is running ever 18 minutes and silver line, every 26, and same thing on the blue and orange line, and on the green line, trains run every 16 minutes and yellow line will be normal service, and on sunday metro opening two hours early, 5:00 a.m., because of the marine corps marathon. that is good for than that you should be fine. the marine corps marathon, however, can't rule out a shower. by 11:00 a.m., we're at 60 degrees, and 1:00 p.m. at 65, and plenty of clouds not only at the race, but everywhere across the region on sunday. tracking plenty of sunshine, and the temperature right now is 65 degrees, and by 1:00 we'll shoot up to 69, and 3:00, 68. picture perfect weather but still cooler than it was yesterday. 5:00 this evening, walking the dog or going for a nice jog, and we're looking at nice conditions with a temperature of 67. a multi-million dollar lawsuit filed in the dupont circle fire. the victims are suing the homeowner for negligence and wrongful death. two died back in june. our news partner says their parents are seeking $10 million per family. the home had no working smoke detector or fire extinguishers, and no fire escape ladder. the world health organization saying eating bacon and sausage is as big as smoking. this new report says that processed meat is as toxic as asbestos and arsenic. for several years the world cancer research fund warned there are strong evidence linking red meat to bowel cancer. studies also show that people that eat a lot of red meat eat fewer plant-based food that protect against cancer. there are more than 1.5 million people will be diagnosed with some form of cancer this year, and want to show you some of the numbers for our area right here. in the district, the estimated numbers are almost 3,000, and maryland you are looking at 30,000, and virginia, about 41,000 and in west virginia, almost 12,000 people. the world cancer research fund says people can reduce their risks by eating no more than 500 grams of red meat per week. back to you. a lot of people upset about that, and my brother just called and said,
