First off, was the person who got locked in the cargo hold really a baggage handler and had he survive the hour plus flight in cargo without serious injuries . Dulles rescue crews on a run this afternoon. Yesterday they handled one of their most unusual calls ever when a United Airlines express jet landed with someone accidentally locked inside a pressurized cargo hold. Its going to be an apparent baggage handler that got locked in the baggage compartment. Unknown injuries at this ti express another concern, for security. Officer called. They want to make sure the person involved is an employee and not a stowaway. Reporter the flight reached an altitude of 27,000 feet before it landed in dulles an hour and 24 minutes later. Were still working to find out when someone realized there was a man in the cargo hold. They discovered the man is okay but there are still questions about whether he truly is a baggage handler. Hes refusing medical attention. Were going to work it as a security incident until we can get some confirmation as to who he was even though hes dressed z a ramper in charlotte. Reporter another complication, the man is missing key identification. He does have a Valid Company reporter the man was detained while representatives from the tsa, faa and United Airlines joined the investigation. Its not the first time Something Like this has happened in recent years. In april of 2015 a baggage handler made a frantic 911 call. That plane made an emergency landing. United airlines has not revealed whether the man had a cell phone. Their Statement Reads once at the gate an employee of the Airlines Ground handling venn tor was found unharmed in the aircraft cargo hold. We are looking into what happened. Police say 23yearold john leonard was a guest at the Dupont Circle hotel. He and a woman went to the roof just after ringing in the new year. Police say he fell down the boiler shaft and died. Investigators are calling the fall accidental. But its two made it onto the roof or why leonard fell into the boiler shaft. Something very similar happened on new years eve a few years ago in 2013. A maryland man was found dead in an apartment buildings ventilation shaft after hed been out celebrating. He was last seen at a bar on 18th street. He disappeared on his way home and was found two days later 50 feet down the shaft just blocks away from the entertainment district. Cops were called to an area off 38th street in southeast k d. C. This afternoon. They say they found a uhaul truck with several atms in the back. Nobodys been arrested so far.
