Dallas, officers here are understandably concerned. Thats something thats very alarming for members out on the street protecting the residents of the city. Any time we see a machine gun or start to see rifle rounds on crime scenes we go to, its very alarming. Reporter in the span of 16 hours, d. C. Police were shot at by suspects in two separate incidents. First an Early Morning shootout in southeast. Police say a gunman with hostages in this suv exchanged gunfire with officers. Later that day, congress was put on lockdown while in session as police were chasing two gunman in this car from southwest d. C. Into northwest near capitol hill. During the chase one of the suspects leaned out over the window of the car and shot at officers with a machine gun. Criminals can get guns. We know it. We have some of the toughest gun control measures here in the city. Were dealing with gun violence on a daily basis. Gun violence is members minds and knowing that when we come to a call for service or violent crime, were most likely not the only people with guns there. Reporter now what we know about the three suspects who were involved in that shootout and chase with police when they fired the machine gun at them, that the recoil from the machine gun caused him to drop the gun at the 3rd street tunnel and the gunman jumped out of the car and ran away. He was caught later at a complex in southwest washington, facing salt on a Police Officer and unlawful entry charges. The apartment complex where they caught him, he had already been barred from. Alverson was ordered held without bond. Turns out he was on probation from a previous charge when that gunfight started. Thats the very latest from d. C. Superior court. Back to you. Mark segraves, thanks, mark. A man is in jail a woman noticed him taking photos up her skirt inside an Arlington Metro station. The guy tried to destroy the evidence, police say. And how two Good Samaritans came to help. And within minutes, case closed. This Surveillance Video shows the confrontation. You can see the victim maneuver herself to keep the suspect from running away. You can see him throw his phone to the ground in an apparent effort to destroy it. Then watch as two Good Samaritans move in to help. In the end, this 34yearold man was captured and cuffed at the arlington courthouse metro station, charged in connection with an upskirting incident here. Police st 3 00 this afternoon, as a woman got off the metro and was traveling up the escalator. She instinctively felt something was off. She turned around and noticed a male subject was filming her from behind, up her skirt. Reporter what happened after that . She confronted the individual, an argument ensued. Reporter Arlington Police and Metro Transit Police converge on the scene and make the arrest. Charge charged this 34yearold man. They say he is from the district. Were going to continue to investigate this individuals actions. We believe there may be additional victims. If you believe you may be the victim call the Police Department so we can investigate. Reporter so when he threw that phone to the ground, did he destroy the pictures . Did he destroy the evidence . No, say police. They say if they can find the phone, they can find pictures. Metro says yellow line train was pulling into the station quite slowly. When controllers were alerted that the train went past a red signal. The operator of that train was taken out of service, pending an investigation. Nobody injured. There was no damage. An emotional day in dallas as three officers killed in last weeks ambush were laid to rest. Family, friends and strangers from across the country came to say goodbye and pay their respects. The latest on those two criminal cases, jonathan weinkie, arrested in june, has pled not guilty and is awaiting his next court date. Employee Thomas Pressley arrested monday, his plea is not immediately known but is scheduled to be back in court friday. On capitol hill, Scott Mcfarland, news 4. The driver involved in a crash that killed three people in Montgomery County has agreed to plead guilty to manslaughter charges. The 20yearold hit another car on river road in bethesda back in february. A couple and their 18yearold son were killed in that crash. The teenager was a senior at the plea deal carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison. Is scheduled to enter his plea the a Court Hearing next month. The Deadly Police shooting in minnesota sparked a rush hour protest that shut down a freeway today. More than 40 protesters were arrested after blocking traffic on interstate 35 west in downtown minneapolis. The demonstrators said they supported the black lives Matter Movement and wanted to protest the Deadly Police shooting during a deadly traffic stop near st. Paul, minnesota, last week. The wire, now pulling down tightly on the utility poles, which also carry power lines and all of this happening on swanks mill road not far from georgetown pike. Its a safety issue. She says all that debris that the wire is catching can act like a dam. If you know this area, anything that potentially helps flooding is not welcome. It used to be the hundredyear flood area. Now everything floods through and reporter the frustration doesnt just lie with residents in this community. Vdot itself says it has contacted verizon numerous times to try to get this issue fixed. Today after we told vdot about the issue, they say they did get in contact with verizon about it. They expect a new focus on the issue. Similar situation. Anarundel county, very heavy rain in anarundel county. Something else we saw, outflow boundary. You see it right here. This is a develop more storms, one of which is right down here in portions of Fairfax County, springfield area, along 495 and 95. Light rain moderate rain falling right now in that area. Now that did prompt a flood warning, heavy rain until 8 30 tonight. Wouldnt be surprised if that was canceled a little earlier. There was flooding reported from that rain. Thats the kind of scenario that will play out here tonight and into the day tomorrow. Any showers could have locally heavy downpours associated with them. We could see localized flooding. One wave moving east. The next wave moving into our region right now. Thats why we could see showers and storms this evening. Of course, that would lead to heavier downpours. Reporter kids, adults and College Students here on the campus of the university of maryland have been playing the game nerly a week. Probably 20, 30 people out playing the game on campus, maybe more. Reporter last night while three of those students were having fun, Campus Police say they were also being targeted. Shortly after 9 00 pm that we got our first call of a robbery. And this is where a person put a back and said give me your phone. Reporter that person was playing pokemon go. Chief David Mitchell says an hour later, two more robberies happened near this dormitory. Having said that, we have over 400 cameras that we monitor here on campus. And theres a good chance we have the person on video, mask or not. Reporter the suspect managed to escape for now. Chief mitchell says there are a few things students need to keep in mind if theyre going to use the app. The message is situational awareness. Try to be out in pairs or threes or fours if youre going to play this game. Reporter he also says its not a good idea to try to chase these characters in dark places at night. Chopper 4 shot this video of six flags Amusement Park in Upper Marlboro earlier this morning when the park was shut down after receiving a bomb threat. Prince found two suspicious packages in the park but no bomb. The park reopened about 3 00 this afternoon. There will be a vigil tonight for seth ridge, the man who worked for the Democratic National committee who was murdered here in d. C. Early sunday morning. Ridge was walking home in the bloomingdale neighborhood when he was shot in the back during an apparent rbry. Friends and Community Leaders will come together tonight to honor his memory. Theyll do it at 7 00 and theyll meet near first and v streets northwest. A group of neighbors is taking Fairfax County to court. Theyre hoping to stop plans to move a homeless shelter into their neighborhood. Virginia reporter david culver looks at whats next in the project. He is live with details. David . The subject of which is a controversial o homeless shelter right into this town home community. Those gathered applauding a committee vote, rejecting plans to relocate the Baileys Crossroads homeless shelter to this open field. This committees decision not the final word. We have a right to. And thats what were pursuing. Reporter Debbie Frazier is president at the homeowners association, just filed suit against Fairfax County over this plot of land. This is was proffered to be an amenity for us for recreation. We want to keep it that way. Reporter as we first told you several weeks ago, this all started with plans to close the Baileys Crossroads shelter on this site since 1997. It will be developed into apartments. Penny gross told me in may those who use the shelter would need some place to go. I would rather only move it once. So far we havent been able find that permanent site. Reporter there are security and cost concerns for a temporary fix. We hope that the county will realize that they need to slow down, find a permanent answer for the shelter. Reporter that public hearing is set for one week from today. I did also hear via the phone with supervisor gross. She tells me that shes not yet received that lawsuit. She will review it once she gets ahold of it. She also says the county is still very much focused on trying to find a permanent solution to this shelter relocation. David culver, thanks, david. More now on the fallout over the comments made by Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader ginsburg, those comments about donald trump have sparked a firestorm. Moments ago, trump tweeted that if he wins the presidency, he will swap Justice Ginsburg with what he called real judges. And nbc justice Pete Williams reports now, thats just one of his recent tweets. In a tweet trump says, quote, her mind is shot. Resign. In a series of interviews over the past few days she has called trump a faker with a big ego and joked she might move to new zealand if hes elected. New york times says washington is more than partisan enough without the spectacle of a Supreme Court justice flinging herself into the mosh pit and the Washington Post says her comments were better left unsaid. Beyond the issue of a sitting justice getting involved in politics, legal scholars say Justice Ginsburg would face calls to take herself off some big cases if trump gets elected. That, however, was a relatively short trip compared to the months long journey hundreds of bound slaves were facing in the hull of the ship, headed to the new world. That crossing ended before it really began, though, in the deep waters off capetown. Stories of untold sadness and suffering have laid beneath the churning waters of the atlantic for centuries now. What is here to help us learn about the lives lost . 30 decades of decembers have filled with dozens of souls destined for slavery in the new world. Portuguese sailing vessel. On a voyage with enslaved people from mozambique in 74, wrecked off capetown, south africa. Reporter nonstop day today as one of the curators for the africanamerican history and culture museum. These are materials from the first known and documented ship that was carrying africans, enslaved africans. Reporter this contains some of the ships balas that arrived in washington today, escorted on the plane by archaeologist who was part of the group to uncover this important he says they represent human lives that were against their will, traveling in the hull surrounded by this heavy weight, meant to keep the ship steady on its long sail across the atlantic. The ship was heading from mozambique island, heading to brazil. Thats a longer voyage than the vast majority of ships that were on the Middle Passage coming from west africa. Reporter below the ocean still some remnants of the wrecked ship will remain. Archaeologists say its important to leave something here as memorial to the lives lost. And youll be able to see that story when the museum opens in september. It will be in a place where you can pause and reflect on the horrors of human bondage.
