The fire that broke out at wisconn avenue and mccombs street northwest appeared to start on the roof of the buildi at th corner. Because its new years day a lot of people in the surrounding neighbor were home at a condo building across the st Bruce Johnston smelled smoke. Went to his window and looked out, and instinctively grabbing his phone and shooting video. Thats when he realized to his horror the smoke was coming from the roof blowing skyward, d people in the restaurant didnt know it wa right across the street and there we sti people on the patio, e inside the bar, drinking. D so i ran over and explained to them guys the roof of the buildi is on fire. You all need to get out of here. And apparentl from what i understa t started in the kitchen. At that point, the staff out front had become aware of it and pulled the fire alarm and evacuad peopl at that point. Luckily, everyone got out safely. The fire appeared to have started in e kit area. Its under investigati at this time and extended up through e deductt work and through the second floor. Wisconsin avenue was shut down for over an hour but has since been reopened. Tonight, one woman is dead her husband is in jail accused of stabbing her in a friends home. Happened along concord drive in woodbridge where david culver is live. David, what are you hearing from police . Repor chris, as police and as neighbo explain it to me it started with a woman who wanted to help a friend of hers who was dealing with marriage problemsso she let her stay with her in her home. But in the mide of the night, she heard those screams for help. And thats when she found herself a witness to a deadly domest. Neighborn livingston d just finished watching the ball drop in new york city on. But her new year cele here in woodbridge cut short by a frantic knock at the door. It was the woman who lives across street. She was carrying a baby and pleaded for carolyn and her neighbors to call police. She told them someone stabbed her friend. I hollered out the window what w the address, so we could 911, and we did. And then she went back and got in the car and sat in the car. Officers poure this quiet street. And then the Police Showed up. The more pol sho. Thats about all then the helicos cam out. R they found erica renes body inside her friends home a home she hoped would shelter her against her husband. The pair had been dealing with relati problems. We were following the incide and it was domestically related bet husba and wife. We had an i. D. On the suspect and we were just basically in a search to locate him. Investigators say after stabbing erica, john drove off in his car. He only made it a few blocks. At the corner of concord and cloverda a half mile away, po say sherwood drove to this point, crashed his car here front of this 7eleven got out of the car and took off running. Police say he made his way to intersta 95 trying to get away. A state trooper spotted someone on the interstate which is unusual, just walking on the intersta matched the description. Attempted to sto him and he continue to flee. Luckily we had the helicopter up. Fairfax couy police assisted us. The chopper tracked sherwood to the rest stop. He r to the woodbridge campus but police had him in sight and arrest him shortly after the stabbing. Can tell you that sherwood is in jail right now, right here in Prince William county accused of not only murdering erica but hitting her friend. That is an icefilled pond over there they made their way out towards the rink. A shot of the rink you can see the guys starting to take things down. To them a long time to set it up and will take them a long time to take it down. But they have great weather coming in for tomorrow.
