An alert victim, some quick thinking Good Samaritans and some fastmoving cops, they had this case closed in no time. This 34yearold man captured and cuffed right on the spot today and charged in connection with an upskirting incident. It happened at the Arlington County courthouse metro station. Police tell the story this way. A woman gets off the metro. Ridi. She gets the sense that something isnt right. She looks behind her and sees a man who has a cell phone up her dress and is taking pictures. She confronts him and then up here on the platform, they say that man takes his cell phone and smashes it on the ground. That draws the attention of a couple passing by, and they come they surrounded the suspect. They made sure the suspect was unable to leave the scene. Police arrived within minutes and we were able to take him into custody. Reporter Arlington Police, metro transit police, they converged on the scene. They had this man in custody in no time. We just obtained Surveillance Video of the whole incident. Its something to see. Ill have that for you coming up at 6 00. Wendy, back to you. Pat collins, thank you, pat. Lets head up to chopper 4 and look at a fire at a nursing home near the grovener metro station. The flames started in the attic, firefighters say. Staff evacuated the building and the fire was quickly knocked down. Everybody is back inside and safe. Right now, some of the suspects who fired on d. C. Police in two shootings are in court. One of the incidents led to the Mark Segraves joins us live outside superior court and tells us what Court Documents are saying about what went down. Mark . Reporter first suspect in the Early Morning shootout with police, alverson appeared on crutches. We learned for the first time moments ago, he was actually shot himself during that shootout with police. He was shot in the ankle. Here is what were learning about that tape. He told police he admitted to robbing four people on a Basketball Court after he robbed them of their cell phones, he had them lie down on the ground and fired his weapon into the ground and then took off. When Police Arrived on the scene, he commandeered an suv with five Innocent Police in it. At that point, he opened fire on police and police returned fire. He then shot his way out of the car. He blew out the back window by shooting out that window and fled. He ran home, had his younger brother call an ambulance. It was at that time at the hospital that police connected the dots and ar without bond. That was just the first of two incidents yesterday in which police were shot at. First an Early Morning shootout in southeast. Police say a gunman with hostages in this suv exchanged gunfire with police. Later that day, congress was put into lockdown while in session as police were chasing two gunmen in this car from southwest d. C. Into northwest, near capitol hill. During the chase, Police Say One of the suspects leaned out of the window of the car and shot at police. No one was hurt in either incident. Theres no way to tell people what it feels like to have people shoot at you. Theres no perspective. Officers are in good condition. Im glad they are. And we have the people responsible, and im glad we machine gun, range in age from 18 to 20. In fact, the person with the gun was a 19yearold, kiante edwards. Theyre due in court at any minute. Well give you an update about what happened when they stand before the judge. Quick question. Do we have any idea what the motive was in that incident, why they were carrying those guns or what they intended to do with them . Were hoping to learn that when they stand before the judge. One of the suspects, one of the charges he is facing is an unlawful entry charge, which indicates there may have been some type of a breakin or forced entry that precipitated the chase that led from southwest over toward northwest. Friends remembered senior Corporal Lorne ahrens being a larger than life man, both in stature and personality. Hard worker, always looking out for others and at the funeral for transit officer brent thompson, his daughters gave a final tribute. Lawmakers cited what the iteam Scott Mcfarland revealed last night. For a second time in a month an employee was arrested for carrying a gun inside Agency Headquarters. Members of the u. S. Homeland Security Committee in a hearing this morning called these cases revealed by the news 4 iteam troubling. For the second time in a month employee has been arrested for tahaving a handgun. I know the witnesses will agree this requires immediate attention by the department. Officials who oversee the security of the grounds by Agency Headquarters confirm they are investigating both workers. Weve not detected anything that would lead us to believe that these individuals were planning any sort of Workplace Violence or conspiring with other. When they asked the judges permission to raid jonathan winkeys home last month, Homeland Security investigators said they did have probable cause to believe he was plotting violence. He has pleaded not guilty. When asked about winkeys case today, officials asked to brief congress in private, away from the cameras. Some time ago, this utility wire came down in the great falls area but it wasnt put back up properly. And if you dont put a wire back up properly, well, things like this can happen. And every time a new piece of debris gets caught in the utility wire, it gets a little tighter and tighter, digging into the trees, putting more pressure on the polls holding it up. Seth ridge gunned down h walked to his home in bloomingdale early sunday morning. Police say he was shot several times, including once in the back. And he wasnt robbed of everything. So far, no arrests. Tonights vigil will take place in the 2100 block of first street. It starts at 7 00. People in another d. C. Neighborhood are finally getting their old street repaved. But the contractors for ddot messed up a lot of the newly laid bricks on the edges of that street. News 4s tom sherwood reports, thats not all that has gone wrong at this neighborhood at 9th and n streets northwest. Reporter its great when you get your old street new paved but not when new bricks, laid weeks ago, are destroyed this the process. Par for the course but ddot has to get on top of this. In the 18 months since the shooting outside Frederick High School in maryland, police have undertaken a quiet, but large crackdown ons Gang Violence in that community. News 4 iteam investigation youll see tonight at 11 00 reveals that Frederick Police have made dozens of arrests since the february 2015 shooting that wounded two young people. Police tell the iteam newer arrests have not been related to that shooting but to a pair of rival groups fighting city wide. Those groups are believed to be responsible for a shooting outside the school. Do we even know why theyre beefing . I dont think you could ask the individuals that are involved in this activity today what originally started the problem back in the early 2000s or maybe even before then. It does not fulfill what we really want to do with a permanent location, which is provide transitional housing. He said he didnt play today because of what Campus Police investigated yesterday. Shortly after 9 00 pm, we got our first call of a robbery. And this is where a person put a stiff object into the victims back and said give me your phone. Reporter chief David Mitchell said that first call was for a robbery near tidings hall. An hour later and yards away, two more robberies occurred by this dormitory. The suspect showed his gun, forcing students to turn over their phones. By 10 30, there were a total of four victims. Most importantly, right next door to an apartment complex where dozens of Cunningham Park students live. Wait till you see the response they got when they opened this new library. Carts full of box, just waiting for young readings. Cunningham park elementary has had a Summer Reading program before at the school but daytime hours and distance can kept many students from coming. So librarian and a couple of teacher volunteers decided to bring the books to the kids. We gather as many books as we could for the kids to take home. The more books you have in your home the more likely you are to read. That increases your reading and literacy.
