A virginia mother is facing child neglect charges after she left her toddler alone in a hotel room. Well, the housekeepers in that hotel got quite a surprise yesterday morning when they went into a room on the fourth floor. Someone was there. It was a 2yearold girl and not a parent in sight. The report of a toddler left behind in a hotel room drew a number of Police Officers to the Value Place Hotel off i66 in manassas. A worker from Child Protective Services arrived in this van. Only our news4 camera was there as police began to sort things out. Evidently housekeeping went to a room to do their normal cleaning tasks and discovered a 2yearold baby girl left in a playpen and no one around. Reporter about 30 minutes after Police Responded to the fourthfloor room, the childs mother showed up. Shed been gone for at least an hour. After police finished questioning her, 24yearold tia lasharma parker was charged with misdemeanor child neglect. We watch as an officer retrieved something from her car. Police say it was a marijuana, so she faces a possession charge too. But her little girl was not taken into protective custody. She appeared to be healthy and well cared for and i guess social services decided it was okay to leave her there with the mother. Reporter across the road from the hotel we told shoppers about the case. This mom, now grandmother, says its a serious offense that must have consequences. I think they should have charged for that because she should have never left the kids alone. To me thats child abuse. James bonnett was convicted of killing his wife in Prince Georges County back in 1972. But he got a new trial after marylands Supreme Court ruled the jury seated before the 1980s often received bad jury instructions. Bonnett was reconvicted this past september. Prosecutors were asking for another life sentence. Two frightening pieces of video are very popular on social media this evening.
