Tonight were getting a closer look as the man known to his friends as honest abe enters a plea on drug charges. Pat collins, this is pretty unusual. Reporter quite a story, chris. Hes a rapper calls hymn honest abe. Hes a selfconfessed drug dealer. For police he was a hard catch. Youll see why in a minute. But lets begin this story with a little music. I thank the lord for blessing me his rapper name is honest abe. He has a number of videos. But if you look at his court record it appears that abe may have been something less than honest. Last april, honest abe was behind the wheel of this yellow box truck. Cops ran the truck tags and found them to be suspended. On come the flashing lights. On comes the siren. Off goes the truck. Ran a stop sign he was accelerating. Hes all over the roadway. Ran a stop sign. [ sirens ] all over the roadway. Just ran a red light. Reporter it was a sevenminute chase that came to an abrupt end when the yellow truck turned into the police car. At the scene, police found 74 grams of marijuana and a digital scale. Honest abe, known to the courts as Abraham Kamara was charged with possession with intent to distribute. Now, as honest abe was out on bond awaiting trial in that drug case he was arrested again. Honest. More marijuana, another digital scale, and more drug charges. Prosecutors collected all the evidence in both case and today, today honest abe entered a plea of guilty to the drug charges. Another man is acued of buying gas for his lexus with his government card and altering his odometer readings to mask the alleged theft. Nearly 200 passengers had to be rerouted after their United Airlines flight made an Emergency Landing landing at Ontario International airport in california. Earlier today, just 30 minutes after leaving los angeles. Investigators say passengers reported a burning smell. Fire crews sprayed down the brakes after it landed and there were no injuries. He committed suicide a year and a half ago, but his mother susan, can finally smile again. Her life has new purpose. The county council is holding a public hearing tonight far bill that would require businesses that operate in the county to give employees earned sick and safe leave. You can take a look at some of the road surface temperatures right now, 37 down south i95 manassas at 36 but 32 in Howard County and around westminster just west of areas around 270, 28 degrees the temperature in frederick, maryland. All this east of the area. As storm team 4 predicted it would be out of here by the time we started to see temperatures drop. You folks down towards Charles County parts of Southern Maryland fredericksburg are we going to get tight . I think so. This is looking more and more like a significant snowstorm. I think some locations pick um over 4 inches of snow from this storm. Tonight we meet a maryland girl who will never forget the gift she got this holiday a new heart that saved her life. Teresa perez loved to dance and laugh and play. But that can be tough when youre barely 2 years old and the only thing keeping you alive is an artificial heart. It started last march. Teresa barely two years old was throwing up. She had cold symptoms and was so lethargic she couldnt even play. Its scary, very very scary especially because the symptoms are sort of vague. And when we found out that her heart was really big on her chest xray and it wasnt pumping well we knew the reason behind her symptoms. Reporter the diagnosed her with dilated cardiomyopathy meaning her heart muscle wasnt working and she would need a transplant to survive. Melissa jones is a Nurse Practitioner at Childrens National health system. The best way for her to wait for her heart transplantation was to implant this venn tick lar assist device or this artificial heart. Reporter its called a berlin heart. Its nearly the size of teresa herself. As long as she was using it shed have to stay at the hospitals intensive care unit. Doctors have her wear a helmet because the device is so heavy it leaves her unbalanced and at its Great Technology because before we had it somebody like teresa would never have survived long enough to get a transplant. Reporter dr. Janet shield is director of transplant at Childrens National. She says the wait varies widely. It could take as few as a couple weeks to as long as a year. The heart has to match the recipients blood type and size. What these donor families do for us is pretty amazing. Reporter the weeks turned to months and still no heart for teresa. Her doctors and nurses tried to make her feel at home in the icu. Melissa jones even only brought her own son to her so teresa would have somebody to play with. She was around adults all the time in the icu so giving her the opportunity to play with another child i thought would be really fun for her. Reporter then finally on christmas eve, the call came in. There was a heart and it was a perfect match. Melissa left on Christmas Day to retrieve the heart. All the details about the donor are private. It was really a miracle that she not only got her heart after waiting for nine months but got it on christmas morning. Reporter the doctor says that small heart started beating in teresas chest right away. And just two weeks after the transplant surgery nearly ten months after she had arrived at the hospital teresa went home. And shes expected to live a normal life. I dont think we could have imagined for so many reasons a better match for her. Teresas heart should last up to 18 years. Then shell need another transplant. Her mother doesnt speak english and didnt feel comfortable being interviewed for this story, but a church in laurel has been helping the family raise money for medical expenses and transportation for doctors appointments.
