Four pilots were killed, and these pilots were trying to help people who were trying to escape cuba. There is this animosity. Yet, in this case it would appear that the cuban government thus far has allowed this plane to traverse its airspace. We are led to believe that they are also of the opinion that theres been some sort of an emergency on board this plane, that the plane has no ill intent towards cuba, and as a result, in fact, they have let the plane fly on. The pilot flew about 1,200 miles and passed through cuban airspace before he crashed in jamaica. Theres no word if anyone else was on board. You can see a lot of lightning, but this storm, more storms forming in frederick county, virginia, and the panhandle of west virginia, and then you get a little bit of a break, and then down to the south around st. Marys county, speaking to folks down there, you might get some rain over the next couple of days. You have a little bit in the way of showers coming through around that area. Also down towards the Northern Neck. Dont put away the umbrellas just yet. I think most of us should remain on the dry side. I do expect some of the storms that are out to the west to move in towards the d. C. Metro area as we move on through thats a front thats going to drape down across the region. As it does, it will continue to draw moisture up from the south. Another very warm and humid day tomorrow, and a better chance of storms, i think, during the evening tomorrow. Tomorrow morning just warm and humid. Very warm and very humid. If not hot during the afternoon. High temperatures tomorrow even a little warmer than they were today, but notice where the rain is. Were going to tell you what happened to the truck that was just too big for a Rock Creek Park overpass. More and more parents are concerned about concussions in football. Well show you the device that is now helping coaches monitor kids who want to stay in the game. The Meredith Vieira show starts on monday, but tonight well take you to new york for a special preview concussions and head injuries are not just a problem for professionals in the nfl. Its an issue for Football Players at all levels. A local team has decided to use the brain center strips for their players beginning this year. That is danatha catholic high school. Jason pew has more on the player protection monitoring system. When i got the concussion, i didnt know where i was. I couldnt do mental math. I couldnt remember three words. It was pretty bad. Nobody knew about it, and i just went to the coach and said my head was hurting. He said, all right, well take you out. If i hadnt gone to the coach and talked about it, i would have just stayed in. Reporter this year damatha, players wont have a choice when it comes to staying in. The team is using these sensor strips on the back of players helmets. The device indicates how many impactful hits a player has taken. Once the sensor flashes a red light, the teams concussion protocol should be assessed. Kids at this age dont understand the severity of a concussion, so a lot of times they dont report symptoms until its too late. This way i can take a look and always maybe i got to watch joe who took three really big hits this week and watch him that way, so then i can let the parents know he doesnt have a concussion, but he did take three hard hits this week. Lets take an eye and watch him. A lot of times we let our competent tiffness misguide a lot of our judgment, and you need someone there to kind of be the level headed person and balance it all. This is a step in the rited right direction for athletes. I have my brain and good senses to go with me for the rest of my life. Its amazing. How does this work . Yeah. Well, show us. Sfroo well, heres the thing. This, first of all, this sensor strip does not detect concussions. It detects impact for players. Basically an athletic trainer, they can keep track of how many hits a player has taken in practice every single day on a week to week basis. Even on a season to season basis with this sensor strip. Now, if an impact is really, really hard, it flashes red. The athletic trainer will come over, pull the player to the side, and they will do the concussion procedures, see if the ki guy is concussed and say he neetsdz to be taken out a few plays or be taken out the entire game or he is okay. It becomes a guide. Pretty much. Its a guide to the athletic trainer. Once thing it did, it takes it out of the coachs hands and players hands. We all know, thee kids and these coaches, they want to be on the field. They want to play. It gives it to the athletic trainers, and thats where it should be. I guess its like the fit bit where you can just download it on a computer, and then you can call up a chart. Absolutely. You can chart somebody. If two players are practicing and play the same position, one mrafr takes 17 hits in practice, and the other player has taken 50 hits in practice. The coach can say or an athlic trainer can say, you know, maybe this player isnt using the proper technique. You know, thats what this sensor strip does. It gives you a gauge of, you know, impact also who is using the proper technique and practice and a game. Its a good thing for high school players. This i mean, football is the greatest sport in america right now, and we want to keep it that way. In order to do that, have you to protect the players. Helping to address a very serious problem. Absolutely. All right. Thanks. All right. The redskins game continues. It looks like sales are taking a bit of a hit. Merchandise with the Washington Redskins logo are down by 35 last quarter. Overall nfl sales gear rose 3 over that same period. This was first reported by cnn, and the report says people are having second thoughts about wearing a tshirt. Its been labelled racist and disparaging of native americans. All right. Now at 5 00 crossing guards are caught in the middle of a controversy.
