Police tell us his mothers boyfriend attacked him with a kitchen knife. That boy had just begun his freshman year at Potomac High School. News 4s Mark Segraves is there and just spoke to the boys mother. Mark, this is heartbreaking. Reporter jim, as you can imagine, a very emotional day here at Potomac High School in Prince Georges County where grief counselors have been available all day for students. As withdrew said, 14yearold Keyshaun Mason was a member of the Football Team here at Potomac High School. It was yesterday morning about 7 30 when Police Arrived at the familys apartment in oxen hill, and thats where they found the 14yearold Keyshaun Mason dead of stab wounds. According to Court Documents masons mother and her livein boyfriend, Sean Crawford, had gotten in an argument that lasted all night and thats when mason and his 18yearold brother tried to intervene and protect their mother. At that point, according to police, crawford took a kitchen knife and the woman and barricaded themselves in a bedroom. When the two boys forced their way into that room trying to urge the man to leave their mother alone and to leave their apartment, thats when Sean Crawford stabbed both of the boys, killing mason, and injuring his 18yearold brother. Now, here today at the school, his mother surrounded by family and friends of her young son were grieving publicly. And she told us exactly how this outpouring of support for her son made her feel this day after he was killed protecting her life. Within this community and school, and to me, stood out so well to everybody. I knew he was popular, but i didnt know he was this popular, and it makes me as a mom feel proud of my son. Reporter now, Sean Crawford has been charged with firstdegree murder. He has been held without bond and is facing life in prison. If hes convicted of these charges, according to states prosecutors, he does have a history of domestic violence. Detectives are now trying to identify him and possible suspect. A teenager charged in a connection with an attempted Home Invasion in Southern Maryland is now missing. Family members havent seen or heard from Steven Coltman in more than a week now and investigators dont believe he has a car. Deputies took him into custody earlier this month for an alleged attempted Home Invasion in charles county. They say he and two other teens tried to break into a home in the middle of the night but wound up running off when a dog started barking. You know, theres been some confusion in recent years about when women should start having mammograms to screen for breast cancer. Some medical groups have said age 40 while others have said age 50. As nbcs Erica Edwards reports new guidelines just out today sort of split the difference. Reporter the American Cancer Society has released new screening guidelines for breast cancer. By age 45, all women should start regular screening every year. Reporter because women in their early 40s are at lower risk for the disease, but at higher risk for false positives, the acs now recommends annual mammograms starting at age 45. With the option to start them at age 40 if they want. At age 55, women can get them every other year. Just relax. Reporter the acs says its an attempt to clarify which women may benefit most from ma m mammography. Some are calling it confusing. There are some caveats in qualifications. That starts to make it little more complicated. Its not the simple recommendation we had in the past. Reporter no longer recommend doctors perform clinical breast exams. The lifesaving potential of Early Detection is found in regular mammography, can find a test before anybody can feel it, before the clinician or patient can feel it. Reporter the guidelines are only for women with an average risk of developing breast cancer, those without a Strong Family history. They also leave room for women and their doctors to make individual decisions about screening. There is new protection for children in schools across Frederick County today. With just the push of a button, students can now send an instantaneous alert about emergencies such as intruders. Kristen wright got a firsthand look. Reporter were in the front office of t. J. Middle. Thats where the emergency but l will go in every school in Frederick County. Its very simple. If there is a threat, if theres an intruder, for example, that comes into the school, the button is pushed and the alert goes out. The emergency button is linked to a security system. The School District already had. But the big difference now is that each school with this button can alert the Districts Central Office and Security Team that there is an emergency. A threat in their building. The alert goes out in seconds. The School District says this instant communication saves critical time during an emergency. The benefit is the local announcement notifying us its just one less phone call the school has to make, that they have time to deal with that crisis. Eventually this device can be hooked up to a number of peripherals, could even be hooked up to a 911 center if necessary. Here when we go into Crisis Management mode, everybodys going to be on a different page and lets them know weve already contacted the outside, now were just managing what needs to go on inside the school. Pushing the emergency button doesnt directly alert the police but the system does have that capability if its wired that way. So that may happen down the line. In Frederick County, kristen wright, news 4. The Prince Georges County man convicted of killing his wife and motherinlaw in their home will spend 50 years in prison. Malcolm thomas was sentenced today for the august 2014 killings in oxon hill. He was found guilty last month. One witness told police they were on the phone with thomas and overheard an argument that turned physical. Thomas was later captured in virginia. A former cable news commentator who claimed he worked for the cia has a Court Hearing this afternoon in alexandria. Authorities say Wayne Shelby Simmons lied about having a 27year career with the cia and used that claim to get Government Security clearances and to work as a defense contractor. He also offered National Security commentary during appearances on fox cable news. He was arrested last thursday. A new twist in the case of Oscar Pistorius, the former olympian convicted of killing his girlfriend. He was re leased from prison overnight after serving just a fraction of his sentence. Nbc news. Severe rains in arizona caused flooding that trapped a woman in her suv. Firefighters and sheriffs worked hard to rescue her. Officials considered a rescue by air but the water had receded enough for them to rescue her by ground. Three rescuers fought swiftlymoving water to reach the woman in her vehicle which was practically submerged. They helped get her out of that suv and took her safely back to the fire truck. Reporter four years ago, her 20yearold son was killed in a violent confrontation with police here. And today, amanda jones was found dead here. Dead inside her house here. Police are calling it a case of murder. Sources have identified the victim as 56yearold amanda jones. Found murdered this morning inside her home in the perrywood section of Prince Georges County. Patricia branch is a neighbor and close friend. Shes a beautiful woman. She has a wonderful spirit about herself. Very softspoken. Would do anything for anybody like i said. Reporter police have described the cause of death here as trauma to the upper body. Investigators have been all over the house, inside and out, looking for clues and a possible motive. Sources say miss jones was discovered this morning by a relative who came to check on her welfare. This is not the first time theres been trouble at this house. Back in april 2011, Police Called here after amanda jones son, charles smith, fired off shots inside. Smith who was bipolar ran from the house. There was a confrontation with the cops nearby. Police say smith reached for an officers gun and was shot and killed by police. Now today, more trouble. More sorrow for the family and friends of amanda jones.
