bars for decades. tonight some local businesses are supporting their workers, they're going to close or scale back their services tomorro tomorrow. >> they're calling it a day without immigrants. news 4's megan fitzgerald is live in northwest d.c. with the story. meaga snrks meagan? >> reporter: businesses are standing in solidarity by allowing employees to take the day off. many say they realize this will cut into their pockets but they believe it's for at least one day it won't be business as usual for many places in d.c. and around the country. >> we need to show the visible impact and positive impact that immigrants provide to the fabric of this country. >> reporter: a protest called the day bout immigrants taking aim at president trump's immigration issues. >> it's ridiculous to think we can survive a day without them. >> reporter: the protest is calling for immigrants to stay home from work and school to show how important they are to the country. places like vida fitness say they'll stand in solidarity with the protesters, allowing employees to miss work to participate. the company says "we will work to minimize disruption to our members but recognize that any interruption in service tomorrow is a testament to the essential service they bring to our team." some restaurants around the city like busboys and poets will close their operate with a shorter menu. >> me myself and my business partner are not exactly the most talented chefs. >> reporter: there are those who support the strike but agree securing our borders is important. >> we need to do better with our immigration system, we need reform. >> reporter: but tomorrow protesters will argue that americans need to see what it's like to live in a world without immigrant immigrants. >> we reap the from northwest, meagan fitzgerald, news 4. we just retweeted angry messages from the immigration and customs enforcement agency denying they're conducting mass immigration raids. one says reports of checkpoints and sweeps and roundups are false, dangerous and irresponsible. another report says "these create mass panic and put law enforcement personnel in unnecessary danger. any groups falsely reporting such activities are during a disservice to those they claim to support." the rumors have rattled communities from chicago to charlotte. with reports spreading across social media. one said chicago police had been enlisted to set up check points where officers demanded to see i.d.s. homeland security did arrest nearly 700 undocumented immigrants in a nationwide sweep but i.c.e. officials say that was a routine bus and 75% of them had felony convictions. new tonight, we're told smoking materials started that huge fire in rockville. montgomery county officials tweeted this picture of flames at the wickford apartments. it spread to the attic. chopper 4 shows you three girls disappear around the same time, one turns up dead and two return home after nearly a month. it's a story that is filled with twists and turns that began when alexandra reyes disappeared from her home in gaithersburg last december. police found her body in springfield, virginia, last weekend now 10 people are behind bars including these four adults and sixteen agers who police won't name because they're under age. news 4 was there when one of the missing girls returned home. initially detectives said she may be in danger, too, but now they say she's connected somehow to the murder. >> she is in custody. we're looking at the extend of her involvement. somehow, some way people are connected through acquaintances. through knowledge >> participants are charged with gang participation and abduction but police say more charges are coming. another elementary school in the district is dealing with bedbugs. a letter went home to miner elementary parents that said the bugs were found in the northeast building today, yesterday, once last week. the school is still open but administrators don't think this is a widespread infestation bedbugs shut down a school in savoy earlier this month. students have going to class while their building gets a thorough cleansing. education secretary betsy devos held her first public event since she was blocked from entering a d.c. school last friday. >> devos made her first public speech. she spoke at the magnet schools of american policy conference in northwest d.c. betsy devos praised magnet schools for showing strong academic results segregation. she slammed protesters. >> friday's incident demonstrates how hostile people are to change and new ideas. without realizing it, we, too, can fall victim to this trap of seeing our work in education as an us versus them approach. i. >> critics say the education secretary is opposed to public education and favors charter and private schools. new tonight, house republicans are requesting an investigation into the intelligence leaks about general michael flynn. president trump slammed the nation's intelligence agencies today, criticized the media for what he called the very unfair treatment of his now resigned national security advisor. this came even though yesterday the white house expressed "a lack of confidence in flynn" and the presidentms general flynn's resignation. today head hosted benjamin netanyahu. the leaders differed on israeli settlements. >> as far as settlements you then, doug, thank you. a man who shot and killed a three-year-old girl in prince georges county will spend 45 years behind bars. devon wallace got into an argument with people he was living with in landover in 2014. it was over some clothes he said were stolen. the argument turned into a fight, wallace left and returned and opened fire on the house. one of the bullets hit and killed three-year-old kanajia bib. wallace was on the run for a month before he was captured. sex trafficking in the montgomery county suburbs. a judge handed down a 250-year sentence today to a man who was convicted of forcing a young woman into prostitution. he was caught in a rockville hotel. a hotel surrounde news 4's jack question bentsen joins us from research boulevard in rockville. jackie? >> reporter: part of the evidence against marcus lindsay is an audio recording and we warn you, it is tough to listen t to. >> stop it! no! >> reporter: prosecutors say this violent and loud argument coming from room 201 on the radisson hotel so concerned a housekeeping employee that she recorded it with her phone. it turned out to be key evidence in convicting 23-year-old marcus jamal lindsay of wheaton on multiple counts of human trafficking. >> the judge today spoke in court and said the actions of this defendant was akin to modern day slavery. >> reporter: employees at the hotel continued to assist the 20-year-old when she came down to the lobby they day, march 3 of last year. they called police then put the victim on the phone with the dispatcher. >> 911. >> hello. >> hi, how many people are involved? prostitute up there. >> does anyone need medical attention? >> um -- i just got beat in the face but i'm fine. >> an officer will be dispatched as soon as possible. >> okay. >> reporter: the 20-year-old officers told officers lindsay posted pictures of her on the back page web site and she provided sexual services to three men since arriving at the hotel. also used against lindsay, his own words from a jailhouse phone call in which he theorized his punishment might be less severe if the victim was not around to testify. >> like if there's no victim then i should be good on this. >> ultimately -- and this is very common -- the 20-year-old did not remain in this area to testify in the case but ultimately thanks to those hotel employees who chose to get involved, that built for business. we're keeping our eye on a skyscraper in san francisco where a crane has come loose on the 30th floor triggering evacuations. police shut off access to the area south of market street and firefighters initially evacuated at least 10 buildings. they were concerned the crane could knock over a 2,000 pound concrete wall, sending it collapsing over the side. officials say the hydraulic system failed and caused the crane to lean outward but city engineers have managed to secure the structure and they say as of now there's no imminent threat members of congress including virginia senators tim kaine and mark warner hosted a screening of the oscar-nominated film "hidden figures" on capitol hill. they invited students from across our region to encourage the study of science, technology, engineering and m h math. when hidden figures arrived in christmas, it told the story of three african-american women who were the brains behind astronaut john glenn's launch into orbit. one of those women is catherine johnson paid by taraji p. henson. johnson proved her calculations were more reliable than the computers back then. they were so reliable she told barbara harrison that when john glenn -- john glenn would not go into orbit unless he got the okay from her. >> yeah, he was -- he would like me, he didn't everything in the computers. >> johnson is now 98 and she is the only surviving member of that team of female mathematicians at nasa langley. barbara asked her about nasa's mission to mars. she said she's confident she could still calculate the senators and other members of congress issued a statement today condemning what they believe is a russian show of force. the vessel was shotted 30 miles from a subbase in groton, connecticut. for people who live around that base, opinion isix democratic lawmakers want president trump to address russia's actions. >> they are doing it obviously with aggressive intent to say the least. >> i'm not too concerned with it. it's something the russians have done before. it's like they play these little games. >> the u.s. navy does spy on russian military targets, including submarine bases from during a campaign stop. he tweeted an apology. he's facing the lieutenant governor in the democratic primary in june. people on both sides of the aisle say the results will be a referendum on the president's first year in office. d.c. united is set to kick off its last season at rfk stadium and we now know what that new stadium will be with? the automaker bought the rights to put its name on the stadium. we don't know how much audi paid but generally naming rights are worth millions of dollars to professional sports teams. d.c. united hopes to begin stadium construction in southwest soon me but i'll zoom close in to frederick, shepherdstown and martinsburg, don't be surprised to see snow showers with flurries towards that area. the rest of us won't see much in the way of that. it's not much unless you're back to the west of the mountains. winter weather advisory back towards garrett county, maryland. they'll see snow over the next 12 to 24 hours. for us the windchill has been a factor. 14 pittsburgh, 26 in hagerstown so we've got colder air moving in from the north and that's locked in at least for a day. a big trough of low pressure but watch how it moves out quickly. here comes the warm air. this is not warm air for a day or two. o all the way to denver. denver tom tomorrow will be in the 70s. that warmer air comes our way over the next couple days. even chicago will be well into the 50s. for us back into the 60s. mild through most of next week, too. all of our temperatures in the next 10 days look to be above average. 39 degrees tomorrow. mix of sun and clouds. windy and cold and especially at the bus stop. you'll need the coats, hats and gloves. maybe the kids heading to the bus stop, too. 32 at 7:00 a.m. windchill around 25 at that time inside the city. high tomorrow around that 39 degree mark. there's your temperatures. 50 on your friday and then look at that, saturday, sunday, monday, and tuesday, i've got mild but might as well put warm because that's at least 15 degrees above average each of those days, really looking quite nice, saturday, sunday and monday for president's day weekend and even into the middle of next week the lowest temperature i have after friday is 55 on next friday and that's still close to 10 degrees above average. so an extremely mild february, extremely warm february. there's a trend toward the end of the
