Soldiers from ft. Hood are among the dead and missing tonight in fastmoving floodwaters. And theyre some of the worlds elite pilots. The blue angels and the thunderbirds. Tonight, why two of their planes went down. First at 11 00, he heard screams and ran to help. Now one of the Good Samaritans in a deadly maryland shooting spree is out of the hospital. Carl unger is home with four bullet wounds, and hes talking to news4 about the man he says smiled before shooting him and killing his friend. Eulalio tordil was indicted today on eight counts, and that includes two charges of firstdegree murder. Shomari stone is live at Montgomery Mall with an interview youll only see on news4. Reporter wendy and doreen, carl unger tells us it happened so fast, at one point hes trying to help a woman who was screami ground thinking hes going to die. I did feel bad, the whole situation. Reporter tonight, carl unger speaks about the horror he experienced at westfield Montgomery Mall in bethesda, maryland, on may 6th. He tells me 62yearold Eulalio Tordil seemed to enjoy shooting people. He looked dead at us and started smiling before he started shooting. Reporter it started when unger stopped at the mall for lunch with his friend, mike winffel. They heard a woman screaming in the parking lot. They say she was being carjacked by Eulalio Tordil, who was allegedly on the run after allegedly killing his estranged wife. He just started shooting. Reporter how many shots did he fire at you . It was like i know he got me like four times. Reporter unger was shot in his foot, leg, three times in his back and in the shoulder, where one bullet remains. His friend, mike winffel, died. Reporter what was going through your mind . I thought i was dead. I said, well, its over now. Reporter unger spent t hes now at home recovering with help from his family. Proud of your dad . Yeah. Reporter why . Because he saved someone who really needed it. Reporter the woman he saved survived. Less than an hour later, police say tordil drove to a giant in aspen hill and tried to carjack include dina molina claudina molina, who was shot and killed. He ruined a lot of families, including his own. Reporter unger says will take months to recover and says his insurance wont cover all of his medical bills. He says hes used up sick leave and vacation time. His friends started a gofundme page. Shomari stone, news4. Thank you, shomari. A letter went home to parents at Gaithersburg High School tonight after a crash claimed the life of a freshman student. He was along busy route 355. News4s Dorothy Spencer is live with more on how it happened. Dorothy . Reporter well, doreen, we are live along 355, also known as frederick avenue. The teenager was riding his bicycle here along the sidewalk. If you take a look over here, a business had placed a sign right there in the middle of the sidewalk. The teenager apparently hit that sign, ended up in the street, and thats where he was struck and killed. The teenager was riding his bike here on the sidewalk when police say he hit a commercial sign that someone had placed on the sidewalk and fell into the street. An 18yearold woman struck and killed the teen here on frederick avenue in the heart of gaithersburg. I know he was coming from the high school and he go to his job, but i dont know where exactly he was working. Reporter the teen, identified as 16yearold Santos Escobar he was hit around the 2 30 dismissal from school around the corner from his home. He was a ninth grader at Gaithersburg High School. In a letter sent home to parents, his principal described him as hardworking and conscientious, a history buff who loved michael jackson. I think its just heartbreaking, of course, for the family of the young man who passed away and also for the person who hit him. I know that for me thats one of my biggest fears as a driver. Reporter the crash shut down the busy commuter route for four hours during rush hour. Many parents disturbed to later find that a young person had lost his life here in such tragic circumstances. I personally went to Gaithersburg High School myself, and just from what ive been seeing on the news, its very, very unfortunate. Me being a father of two children, i just cant imagine what the familys going through at this point in time. All right, darcy spencer. Thanks, darcy. Well, developing tonight, the army is still searching for six soldiers who went missing after their army troop truck washed away in the floods of texas. Three soldiers are confirmed dead. The waters swept their truck into a rainswollen creek near ft. Hood. Three other soldiers were rescued. Theyre in stable condition. The army is searching by air and water, also using dogs to search for the six missing soldiers. Were going to have more from texas coming up in about ten minutes. And doug cameras in storm center 4. Its not letting up for the people down in texas, is it . No, it isnt. Theyve seen storm after storm of 3, 6, 10, 14 inches of rain in texas from houston to dallas down towards san antonio. Right now more than half of the state is under flash flood watches. You can see whats happening. There is a storm the size of texas sitting right on top of it. More very heavy rain tonight. Dallas right now under a flood rains and theyll see more potential for heavy rain tonight. For us, we have areas of heavy rain back to the north and west. Nothing around the d. C. Metro area right now, but back to the north and west, we are tracking this area of rain in through the panhandle of west virginia, in towards clark county, virginia, washington county, and this will move right into Frederick County and northern Loudoun County. Very heavy rain, heavy enough to prompt a Flood Warning for Hampshire County and Mineral County until 1 45 in the morning, so watch out if youre back into this area. The thunderbirds and the blue angels, theyre known for their skill, rescission, their grace in the air, but tonight two teams of elite military pilots are investigating two crashes, one that happened just after the thunderbirds flew over the president. That happened in Colorado Springs where one of the thunderbirds went down after flying over the air force Academy Graduation where president obama was speaking. That pilot was able to eject, later met with the president. In tennessee, a tragic outcome. We have new video tonight which shows one of the Navy Blue Angels going down while practicing for an air show outside of nashville. That pilot did not survive. You know, the blue angels are probably the premier air p Precision Team in the world and were honored to have them. And its heartbreaking to have the blue angels are no longer participating in that air show. The navy is not releasing the name of that pilot. Donald trump is getting his chance tonight to hit back at hillary clinton, who hammered the businessman in a Foreign Policy speech today. Yusuf abdi ali, who now lives in alexandria, was placed on administrative leave from dulles after a recent cnn investigation that highlighted his alleged brutal past. News4 has covered these accusations against ali several times dating back to 1998. Questions about his past have followed him for years, most recently in a federal civil lawsuit. Ali is entitled to immunity as an official or former official of the somali government. Its very troubling and it causes a lot of questions to be asked about what type of vetting was done. The threetime world heavyweight champion is suffering from a respiratory issue. A hospital Spokesman Says ali is in fair condition, but sources are telling the Associated Press this could be more serious than previous hospital stays. The 74yearold ali suffers from parkinsons disease. Hes been hospitalized several times for respiratory problems in recent years, most recently in 2015. Well, what had been feared for weeks was confirmed today by a minnesota medical examiner. Music legend prince did die from an overdose of a powerful painkiller called fentanyl. The medical examiner found high levels of it in princes bloodstream, officially calling his death an accident. 50 times more potent than heroin. It is typically prescribed in a hospital for extreme pain. The report also says that prince weighed a mere 112 pounds at the time of his death. It was the remnants of Tropical Storm bonnie. Well, now its back to a depression. You can see its a very welldefined depression, could become a Tropical Storm again. It would still be bonnie, and it is expected to move back out to sea. But right now it moved up, then back down. Its going to be out of here eventually. Whats coming our way is some moisture that right now continues to affect texas, dallas, and really, most of the state under flash flood watches. There are numerous warnings here. They have been inundated with rain over the past month or so, and that looks like its going to continue. More heavy rain back towards louisiana. Now, our forecast tonight not nearly like that. 74 degrees. Dew point up to 67. So theres a lot of moisture in the atmosphere, and thats going to lead to some of that heavy rain tomorrow. Heres the local radar. Storm team 4 radar showing nothing around our immediate area, b frederick, back towards leesburg and winchester. These are the areas seeing that heavy rain. Jefferson county, west virginia, very heavy rain right now along 340 coming through Harpers Ferry right down towards cablestown. Martinsburg, boonsboro, up towards frederick seeing some of that rain, and frederick will get that rain and heavier rain over the next 30 minutes to an hour. Theres the rain. Heres future weather. Watch tomorrow morning around 7 00 a. M. We still have some showers around, so some of us could be seeing some wet roadways early tomorrow morning. They get out of here, then we see more cloud cover, a few peeks and pokes of sun. Behind it, we have a couple showers, a couple thunderstorms around, too. I do expect to see some thunderstorms.
