and the president. news 4 begins now with storm team 4. frigid weather again tonight with temperatures in the single digits. >> and we're just a few hours away from a nasty mix of snow sleet, rain. doug come on man. >> come on man. i'll tell you what temperatures right now are just brutal. they're colder tonight than they were last night at this time in many locations, and that's because of the calm winds. that allows temperatures to cool much more efficiently. look at these numbers. 9 in luray, 2 in ocean city maryland. take a look at our storm system. here's future weather. 8:00 a.m. tomorrow the cold is here. that means everything will start as snow and it will stick fairly quickly. what will we see after that? that's the big question. right now winter weather advisories along the i-95 corridor down towards southern maryland then back to the west back farther to the west we're looking at the corridor with winter storm warnings there. that's the best chance to see some big time snowfall totals. we'll talk about that. i've changed the snowfall totals around a little bit. again, a very tough forecast. i'll have my thoughts on it coming up at about 11:17. >> thanks doug. we'll have more on that storm in a few minutes. first, new information tonight in the case of two sisters missing now for 40 years. and that information could bring investigators closer to solving the disappearance of those girls. jackie bensen at our live desk now with new details on a person of interest in the lyon case. >> this information was first reported online tonight by "the washington post" and comes from search warrants that were unsealed in bedford county virginia where an investigative grand jury has been meeting. some rural property there has been the scene of an ongoing search for the girls' rns because of its connection to a convicted sex offender named lloyd lee welsh newly unsealed affidavits reveal that during interviews with detectives lloyd lee welch admitted he left wheaton valley mall in a vehicle with the two girls the day they disappeared. the po cites an account that details the may 2013 discovery of records from a police contact with belch on april 1st, 1975 just seven days after 12-year-old sheila and 10-year-old katherine lyon disappeared after which he said he'd seen them get into a car with a man and leave. the post site cites the newly unsealed affidavit as saying at that time detectives gave him a polygraph test and it deemed that lloyd welch was being untruthful. welch has two convictions from the 1990s for sexually assaulting two different 10-year-old girls. detectives interviewed him in the delaware prison where he's serving a 30-year sentence. sources tell news 4 that the lyon family has been made aware that this information was about to be made public. montgomery county police chief released a statement to us a short time ago in which he said he could not comment on the search warrants his the case is going ongoin at the storm. they're concerned about possible slipping and sliding on the belttomorrow. but people in this college park neighborhood have an immediate concern. take a look behind me. you see that water, it's actually coming from around the block. there's a broken water main. wssc crews are expected to be here any minute to deal with this thing. a lot of folks are concerned about this. the yellow tape warns drivers to stay away from the service road on rhode island avenue. there's a potential risk of a sink hole. another frigid night, but this time water rolls down rhode island avenue service road from erie street to delaware place in college park maryland. >> i actually thought try to get to my car i was going to fall down. >> reporter: she felt like rhode island was an island surrounded by freezing water. >> that's crazy. >> reporter: the water main broke this evening. tonight wssc crews telling us they're working on this one and several more as the temperatures dip to single digits. folks tell me that this broken water main comes at a very bad time. they're concerned about possibly slipping on the sidewalk. they're not the only ones. in fact people in d.c. maryland and virginia are buying ice-melt tonight. casey coughlin is the manager at home depot in bethesda. we could see icy conditions in some areas tomorrow. >> we've sold through three shipments. we just got a new shipment in today. >> reporter: ice-melt isn't the only hot item. coffee sales are up 25% compared to last friday at coffee nature in northwest d.c. >> it's really popular today. >> reporter: back in rhode island the freezing water is unpopular. along with possible snow over the next 24 hours. >> definitely kind of nervous about tomorrow with this water all over. >> reporter: now, v-dot and the a 5-year-old in the backseat. officers arrest eded devon owens. he said two guys jumped him when he got out of his car in southwest d.c. the suspects is drove off with the child in the back and then dumped the vehicle later. the child was not hurt. a big fire that happened on yellowstone way in fairwood maryland. we're told there were 75 firefighters trying to g control of that thing. everybody in the house made it out safely. no word yet on what might have started that fire. it appears that the former fif virginia is headed to prison. mauren mcdonnell sentenced to one year and one day. in court she apologized for what she described was in her words a series of events that embarrassed us all. she asked the judge for leniency. the jury convicted former governor bob mcdonnell and his wife on corruption charge last fall. they're right now free on bond while they appeal their convictions. >> she finally had her opportunity to she had felt through the last two years was an ordeal and to apologize to everyone she's hurt. >> i just want to say that i appreciate very much judge spencer's mercy and leniency for my wife today as they granted to me a month ago. >> reporter: the former of words between rudy giuliani and the white house. the former new york city mayor is talking to nbc news and expanding on his accusations that president obama doesn't love america. news 4's chris lawrence joins us with the latest. >> reporter: senior white house correspondent chris janzing spoke with the former mayor tonight. giuliani is adamant that he should not and will not apologize. but a phone call with jansing he talked about president obama growing up poor and said this is a guy who should be saying thank god for america. he started talking about an attack on a synagogue back in 19 1994 saying iran's government was behind it and how president clinton expressed solidarity with new york's jewish community. he said when they're targeted see that kind of support from president obama. i'm used to an american president wh christians are slaughtered who make up the plurality religion in the country, who expresses sim patty with them. the pope does and the archbishop in new york but if a muslim gets in a shoot-out, he's expressing great empathy about that. i believe the president did not evoke enough love for this country, and i wish that he would. white house officials call giuliani's remarks sad and say it has tarnished his legacy. they say just last month president obama ended his state of the union address by saying god bless this country we love. i'm chris indefinite suss spengtspen comes after a court ruled about domestic violence and now chevrolet is suspending its relationship with kurt busch. after an ex-girlfriend said he strangled her and smashed her head into wall. a judge said there was a substantial likelihood of busch attacking his girlfriend again. he will not participate in the daytona 500 this sunday. instead he'll be replaced by dubai tonight. forcing one of the world's tallest apartment buildings to evacuate. the fire climbed multiple stories of the 79-floor skyscraper known as the torch tower. flaming debris fell to the street below and kept on burning. fire is out now and there have been no reports of injuries. this massive mirror came crashing down on top of a customer at a well-known manhattan restaurant today. diners tweeted out photos showing the mirror toppled over on a booth at the balthazar restaurant. it had been hanging on a wall. it's unclear how it fell. the diner suffered minor injuries. nearly a million people are being told to delay filing their 2014 tax returns because of a glitch involving healthcare.gov. the white house says 800,000 people got incorrect tax forms that couen impact on the account. and talk about a close call. driver of a pickup truck lost control on a slick highway and barely missed a transportation worker. this all happened tuesday morning in knoxville, tennessee. icy road conditions around here tomorrow. >> yeah and i think that's the big concern. no matter how much snow we get out of this storm, there's going to be a lot of problems out there on the road because the temperatures are so cold. we're at zero in some areas. salzburg maryland they're at 3 below currently. baltimore will set another record by 12:00 tonight. they're already around 4 degrees. the old record there 8 degrees set back in 1885. we're about to break another 100-year-old record. currently at national airport we're at 17 degrees. the reason why we have a little bit of wind tonight. that's why the wind chill is down to 7. another cold night. radar not showing anything here tonight. you see what's coming our way. it's a mixture of snow sleet and freezing rain and just plain rain. we'll see all of those during the day tomorrow. the snow will be first and it will move in during the late morning hours. this is what to expect. snow between around noon and 5:00. this is around the d.c. metro area and areas to the north. mixing with ice after that 5:00 hour. then changing to rain overnight. we could get an inch to half an inch. this is all snow we'd be talking about over a foot everywhere but that's not going to be the case. warm air literally rushing. snow just on our doorstep. by noon everywhere with the exception of southern maryland and northern neck. may miss out on this one across the region but the snow heavy at times back along 66 81 straight up 270. this is the area we have the most confidence in as this forecast goes. then 4:15 still seeing heavy rain. this is right when the capitals finish the game down at the verizon. i do thing thek the roads will be a mess at that time. watch the ice make its way up to the metro area by 5:00. road temperatures are so cold that i do think we'll see a major ice problem out there on those roadways. even if it just starts to rain. if it rains it can still freeze on the roads. changing to rain through midnight. it doesn't get out of here until 7:00 a.m. on sunday. sunday is going to be a better day. that's good news this. winter weather advisory i-95 back to the west is where we expect to see th snow and where the weather e does too. i've changed a couple of things. a coating up to one inch in the south. 1 to 3, fredericksburg, fairfax, quantico. i've moved the 3 to 5 back a bit and this is such a tough forecast. 4 to 8 back to the west. this is the area that we have the most confidence in. if this move in a little bit faster these totals could go up a little bit. if it moves in later, they could come down. yes, once again extremely tough forecast. but either way the impact will be high tomorrow. snow will stick quickly, then ice. then to rain. the roads will be a mess. saturday 33, sunday rain moves out early with a high of 44. then another cold snap. 28 degrees on monday. rather breezy. so wind chills in the teens all day. 32 degrees on tuesday. then hey, let's try to get above freezing with some sunshine. that could happen on wednesday, but we go right back down again thursday and friday. and even the stened period everybody asking when we're breaking out of
