the northern neck this morning. and as we look to our west, the temperatures in most locations in the low and mid-70s with a thick haze in the air. and the radar scanning the sky, picking up one thundershower. looks like it's diminishing east of the northern neck of virginia over the lower part of the bay. that's drifting ever so slowly to the east. little bit of thunder and lightning there. there's the sky, the eastern horizon, the sunrise in a couple of minutes, and not going to see much sun with the thick haze early this morning. the temperatures by 9:00 should be in the mid-80s, noontime, near 90 with the hazy sunshine, and mid afternoon ought to peak in the low 90s. and that is still above the average high this time of year, which is 89. but still, big break from the extreme heat we've seen the last few days. by late afternoon, though, we could get some thunderstorms, some of which could produce heavy downpours, may cause localized flooding. here's a look at the traffic. new from overnight, one firefighter has been -- has been injured in a rather -- hospitalized for exhaustion while battling a house fire in hyattsville in prince georges county. the fire started at a home around 3:00 this morning. the red cross is helping the three people displaced by the fire. firefighters are still on the scene investigating the cause. the suspect in norway's deadly attacks will be arraigned today on terrorism charges. anders behring breivik said he wanted to explain himself in court. he's accused of two terrorist attacks which killed more than 90 people on friday. his lawyer says breivik wanted to trigger an anti-muslim revolution in norway. he wrote a manifesto and published it online ranting against muslims in europe and saying "it is better to kill too many than not enough." meanwhile, police entered the home of his father. a norwegian newspaper said he has not had contact with his son since 1995. and it's not clear whether police actually questioned him. and the norwegian embassy here in the district has become a makeshift memorial. people have been leaving flowers and signs since friday's deadly attacks. and the norwegian ambassador's residence will open its doors so visitors can sign a book of condolences tuesday and wednesday. as we draw closer to the first default in american history. the markets were off about a percent this morning. china's shanghai composite down almost 3%. stock markets in south korea, australia, and several european indices are also trading lower morning. and with just eight days until the debt limit deadline, republicans and democrats are expected to introduce dueling debt ceiling bills this morning. the plan from senate democrats would increase the debt limit by $2.4 trillion. that's enough to last through 2012. and cut about $2.7 trillion from the deficit with no new revenue added. house republicans, however, want to raise the debt ceiling only by $1 trillion and want larger cuts forcing a two-step process that would require another debt showdown before 2012. that is something the white house says it does not want. >> it must be extended in a way that gives certainty to the economy through 2013, and not some short-term gimmick where we're right back in this fix in six or eight months. >> i understand why they're saying they won't sign a short-term, but i think they won't have any choice, and i think that's the only answer right now. >> president obama says he will not -- or rather he will veto any short-term deal. 6:05 right now police are searching for a missing 7-month-old baby and the teenager relatives have been handing out flyers and have appealed to the public for help. no breaks in this case. 7-month-old keyon birch missing since friday evening. and police believe this woman took the child. they also believe she might be in prince georges county or montgomery county. now, the infant was with his father in baltimore on friday evening. the father then left him in the care of boozer. now where boozer and the baby are at this time is noin. they have not been seen since friday evening. now, again, police believe there's a possibility that boozer may be in prince georges county according to relatives of the baby, she has friends, some connections here. and they have been searching neighborhoods in prince georges county. >> she has friends in in the area. so with that, we really want as much as possible to plead to get out. because every minute, every second counts. >> she has a blond mohawk. police say she has multiple facial piercings, she's 5'4" inches tall, last seen wearing a purple leopard print outfit. and obviously the family is very, very concerned. they have not seen the little boy since friday evening. and just a very difficult situation for them. assaulted and robbed when he opened his door to men he thought were his friend. this happened along hiddengrove court avenue on saturday morning. the man was immediately hit with a blunt object. at least two men came into the home and took several items. so far, no arrests have been made. are you ready for some football? well, players and owners finally say they are. according to multiple reports, both sides agreed to terms for a new collective bargaining agreement just hours ago. representatives for players still have to submit an official vote on the deal this morning, but that is considered a formality. a news conference is also expected later today. what comes next is a little bit of a mystery. there are conflicting reports about when training camps and free agency will begin. but this is what we are hearing so far. sources say facilities could open as early as tomorrow with players reporting by wednesday, and training camps beginning by thursday. then the players' union would have to recertify, which is expected by friday. and free agency could start by the weekend, although saints' quarterback drew brees sent an e-mail over the weekend saying free agency could wu's. later today, nancy pelosi is expected to formally request an ethics investigation. this morning, we're learning new details about amy winehouse's death. her friends tell the "daily mail" she was seen buying narcotics including cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, and a horse tranquilizer. winehouse was reportedly found by a security guard who was appointed to help look after her the last couple of years. the 27-year-old struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. an autopsy will be performed today to determine exactly how she died. fans are rushing to download amy winehouse's two albums now. the singer took the top slot this weekend on the itunes uk download chart with her 2006 grammy award winning album back-to-back. winehouse is the latest in a string of music superstars who died at the age of 27. other members include jimmy hendricks, janice joplin, jim morrison, and kurt cobain. amanda knox is making her final appeal to an italian court. she arrived in court a short while ago. back in 2009, she was convicted of killing her roommate and sentenced to 26 years in prison. however, last month, forensic experts say the dna used in her trial might have been contaminated. if she is acquitted, knox could be released as early as september. four teenagers are recovering this morning after being attacked by a bear in alaska. they were attacked by a brown bear on saturday night about 120 miles north of anchorage. this happened during a survival training camp. alaska police say the teens' survival skills kept them alive. police believe the bear was protecting its cubs when it attacked. all four teenagers were airlifted to a local hospital. two were in serious condition. today, hundreds of same-sex couples in new york are waking up married. the state made gay marriage legal just yesterday, but couples are lining up in droves to tie the knot. more than 820 marriage licenses were issued yesterday in new york city and more than 650 were picked up. 484 couples did not want to wait and got married within the city's clerk's office. couples who have been together for years were overwhelmed by joy now that they are legally married. >> it's not real. >> and we're so happy obama feels about turning 50. welcome back. a new study says going offline is as hard as quitting smoking or drinking, that's according to the "daily mail." a consumer research firm surveyed 1,000 people about their feelings on using the internet. the study finds that 53% of people feel upset when denied internet access, and 40% feel lonely if they can't go online. one person surveyed even said
