>> it means it's cloudy. >> i get that. >> we'll probably get some rain from some of those clouds beginning probably not until late morning and into the afternoon. let's take a look at what's been happening over the last 12 hours. it is mostly cloudy across virginia, maryland, and west virginia although there are some breaks in the clouds around the blue ridge, shenandoah valley. no rain here yet, but you can see the radar showing this moving color. these are some advancing light showers moving from the south to north. they're now as far north as richmond and up through williamsburg. these are tending to sort of break up a bit as they come a little farther to the north. we also have a bit of patchy fog. watch out for that this morning. that may reduce your visibility as you're hitting the roads this morning on your way to work and school. right now we're in the low to mid-60s through most of the region. from the mountains all the way to the atlantic beaches. right now 65 at reagan national. low 60s at prince george's, arlington, fairfax, and montgomery counties on this wednesday morning, the 21st day of september. there is the washington monument poking into the low clouds that hang over the city. sunrise will be at 6:55. by 9:00 it should be mostly cloudy. might have a little sun this morning. overall, cloudy. maybe some showers moving from south to north by noontime and off and on during the afternoon. we'll take a look at your evening planner coming up in about ten minutes. danella, good morning. how's the wednesday commute? >> good morning. so far we're looking good in the area. i did notice a lot of fog on my drive in. be careful because it may pop up on your commute. taking a live look at the beltway in maryland, i don't have any problems. inner loop and outer loop is clear. this is a view from new hampshire avenue. shooting through virginia at robinson terminal. inner loop and outer loop there clear as well. if you're traveling in virginia, 95 is not that bad right now. this is as you pass fairfax county parkway. both directions on 95, you are clear. now back to you both. >> thank you very much, danella. it is now 4:32. no more warnings. speeding in prince george's county will cost you this morning, especially near school zones. today marks the end for the 30-day warning period for all of the county's new speed cameras. tickets will start being issued today for any driver caught driving at least 12 miles an hour over the speed limit. cameras go from far north as laurel to ft. washington in the south and dozens of spots in between. the cameras will be on from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. during weekdays. today metro are hear complaints about safety concerns in the city. metro ranked the top five metro stations for reported crimes, and they are suitland and deanwood, gallery place, largo town center, l'enfant plaza, and minnesota avenue. you can share your concerns at a public meeting at the metro headquarters from 6:00 to 8:00. d.c.'s wealthiest residents will soon have to pay more in taxes. the city council voted to raise the income tax rate by .5% for those making more than $350,000 a year. the tax hike was imposed on a 7-6 vote. it goes into effect next month. we now know the name of a 2-year-old boy who police say got his hands on a gun and accidentally shot and killed himself. police say that daveon prince shot and killed himself on monday night. they say his mother was home at the time but in the next room. there's no word yet on who owns the gun or whether police plan to file any charges. this morning police say to stay alert. a teenage boy ambushed and assaulted a woman on her front door on leafcrest lane in fair oaks. the teen had a weapon, forced his way inside, and sexually assaulted the woman. the attacker is thought to be 15 or 16 years old. this morning a man faces charges for jumping the white house fence. he got over the fence last night and ran up to the north lawn towards the mansion. secret service agents stopped him with guns drawn and arrested him. he had a backpack and cell phone with him. both were searched and posed no security threat. no one was injured. the man is expected to be charged with unlawfully entering the grounds. officials say he was able to get closer to the white house than fence jumpers usually do. officers say you will of the circumstances of the incident are now under investigation. the president was not inside the white house at the time. happening today, a critical meeting for president obama. he'll sit down with palestinian president mahmoud abbas. the white house says the meeting is a late addition to the president's schedule at the u.n. in new york. abbas is pushing for statehood at the u.n. despite u.s. efforts to stop it. obama is working to get abbas and israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu into direct peace talks instead. meanwhile, protesters will voice their opposition to iranian president mahmoud ahmadinejad, who is in new york right now to attend those u.n. meetings. he arrived last night after leaving tehran on monday. he said he wanted to talk about reforms in world management at the united nations. ahmadinejad also addressed the ongoing saga of the u.s. hikers detained in iran, saying they will be freed soon. last week the leader told nbc's ann curry that shane bauer and josh fattal would be released in a matter of days. the two men have been in prison since 2009, accused of being spies. bauer and fattal claim they were hiking in iraq and accidentally crossed the border into iran. bail proceedings are apparently on hold because the judge involved is on vacation. the obama administration is taking the fight against one of al qaeda's most dangerous affiliates to their backyard. according to a report by "the washington post" this morning, secret drone bases are being set up for counterterrorism operations in the horn of africa and the arabian peninsula. it's an aggressive new strategy to combat affiliates in somalia and yemen. bases are already set up in ethiopia and djibooti as well as the seychelles. the death toll from the reno air crash has now reached 11. the 74-year-old pilot was among those killed. he had shortened the plane's wing span and increased the engine's horsepower to boost performance. investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the plane to go out of control and crash. sarah palin is gaining ground in decision 2012 even though she's yet to announce if she'll even jump in the presidential race. a poll shows the former republican presidential candidate in a close race with president obama. she trails the poll by just 5 percentage points. the poll showed her trailing by 20 percentage points earlier this year. the first face-off in the virginia senate race is now set. former governors george allen and tim kaine have agreed to their first debate on september the 7th to be held in richmond. the paper also reports that former new york mayor rudy giuliani has endorsed fellow republican george allen. the results are in for the primary election in prince george's county. derek davis beat out 14 other democrats for the council seat. leslie johnson resigned from that seat after pleading guilty to corruption charges back in june. davis now moves to the general election race set for october 14th. back to the ice for the caps. it could have been we're still looking good in our area. still seeing some fog, but besides that, i don't have any incidents to report. i'll give you a live look starting with our area bridges. the american legion bridge, not much traffic at this time and no problems as you make your way across. same problems for the 14th street bridge. you're clear. and the 395 to the 14th street bridge, you're clear. getting onto the sousa bridge, nice and clear. now back to you both. >> danella, thank you. still to come, why one congresswoman is being called a lifesaver. welcome back. the escalating drug violence is being blamed for a really gruesome scene in a mexican coastal town. a major street in downtown boca del rio was shut down when they found 35 bodies in trucks piled under this highway bridge. drug violence has claimed more than 35,000 lives across mexico over the last five years. the student government association at bowie state university is holding a memorial service for a student killed last week. dominique frazier was stabbed to death last thursday. her roommate, 19-year-old alexis simpson, is facing charges for the crime. police say the two were allegedly arguing over loud music. she is being held without bond and due back in court october 14th. a funeral mass will be celebrated today here in washington for kara kennedy, the oldest child of the late senator ted kennedy. she died over the weekend. she collapsed after working out at a health club. she was 51 years old. today's funeral will be held at holy trinity catholic church in northwest washington. the mass begins at 9:30 this morning. the tsa is once again under fire as a woman says agents dug through her hair even after she cleared security. isis brandtly says she was already on her way to the gate at hartsfield-jackson airport in atlanta when police ran after her and had to check her hair for explosives. brandtly told reporters that the agents humiliated her. >> she was digging in my hair and my scalp. she didn't pat it down or anything like that. i was confused. i was outraged and humiliated. >> a tsa manager apologized, but brandtly says she is no longer comfortable flying because of this incident. the tsa says she left the bag search before she was completed. the dominion cab drivers and the d.c. professional taxicab drivers association filed a lawsuit claiming that the taxicab commission lacks proper representation by the taxi industry and sets arbitrary rates that drivers don't like and force drivers to work long hours which has led to health problems. mayor gray, which received heavy support from taxi drivers during the mayoral election says it's misguided and ignores his commitment to the taxi industry. starting on sunday multiple metro bus routes that go through anacostia will be ending a 20 year long discount. for two decades, riders on 19 separate routes, including the a-2, a-8, and 90 have paid $1 instead of a $1.50 with the smart trip card or $2 without one. now the 50 cent discount will only going from riders who transfer to and from metro trains onto those specific rutd. the capitals play in baltimore didn't go as well as planned because of dangerous conditions. both capitals and predators players said the ice was melting in different places right from the opening face-off at first mariner arena. current predator tyler sloan said you could see through to concrete as the game went on. barry trotz coached the skip jacks there back in the '90 the and said the building wasn't cold enough. >> the watergate office building is close to having new owners. according to "the washington post" the building is under contract and will be sold to a d.c.-based private equity real estate investor penzance. the deal is expected to close this fall. this morning the justice department is being called out for extravagant spending on conferences. a new inspector general's report found the agency spent $16 apiece on muffins after service fees were included. the agency also spent $10 each on cookies. the beef wellington hors d'oeuvres at another conference cost $7.32 per person. at another meeting coffee came out to $8 for an eight-ounce cup. wo what's in that coffee? the report looked into spending in the bush administration and obama administration. $16 for a muffin? >> those banquet fees. when you order food at a hotel for a big meeting like that, if you don't check the fees, they're pretty amaze. >> that's pretty outrageous. many people are not big fans of congress, but one man is lucky to be alive this morning thanks to tennessee congressman and former doctor, phil roe. roe came to the aid of a man having a heart attack at the airport performing cpr until paramedics arrived. >> he had no heartbeat. as we gave him chest massage, he began to breathe some and hooked him up and saw he was defibrillating, and his heart got into a regular rhythm. >> roe is a retired ob/gyn. his office says last they heard the man is in stable condition at a charlotte hospital. >> that's good news. always handy to have a doctor around when you're having a heart attack. our time is 4:51. a look at weather right now. allow yourself a little extra time. we have patchy fog. getting reports in prince george's county, parts of southern maryland, and near the chesapeake bay and tidal potomac. there is cloudiness hanging over washington. it obscures the top third of the washington monument right now. 65 at reagan national. we've got a light northeasterly breeze. it's mostly cloudy there now. as we look at what's going on over the last 12 hours, we did have breaks in those clouds yesterday afternoon. we have returned in most locations. parts of the shenandoah valley, they have a little bit of a view of the sky there this morning around the blue ridge and panhandle of west virginia and western maryland. elsewhere, cloud deck all around our region. we are beginning to see some rain pushing up into central virginia. just a few sprinkles here just north of richmond. and over toward the virginia capes, they're getting heavier downpours lower part of the bay. that's going to be passing over toward the atlantic beaches perhaps over the next couple of hours. elsewhere, we just have the low clouds hanging in, and temperatures in the low to mid-60s. it's in the low 60s right now prince george's county, patchy fog. it's in the low to mid-60s montgomery, arlington, and fairfax as well. all around the region, we'll have the clouds with us today. sunrise at 6:55. maybe some light rain into the metro area by around noontime, perhaps off and on during the afternoon and into the evening as well. highs reaching the mid-70s, and we'll have a few passing showers this evening. temperatures near 70 by midnight. during the day tomorrow, we might have sun in the morning. there is a smaller chance of an afternoon shower on thursday. should be a bit milder, but it's going to be rather muggy, humid, up near 80. friday looks like showers with highs in the 70s. we pick up a couple of inches of rain friday into friday night. now it's looking like on saturday, i'm afraid. our weekend is going to be really impacted by rain, maybe some thunder on saturday. earlier in the week, it was looking dry. now the pattern is unfortunately looking wetter for the weekend but drying out first part of next week. danella, good morning. how's traffic?
