>> nope, sorry, maybe next time. >> thank you, chuck. now to decision 2012, where today we could see a republican presidential candidate drop out of the race. herman cain will make what he calls a major announcement later today, as many political analysts believe he will announce he's bowing out of the 2012 election. cain has been dogged by policy mistakes, several allegations of sexual misconduct and now a claim that he had an affair for 13 years. he spoke with his wife yesterday for the first time since ginger white came forward saying she had a relationship with cain. the sexual misconduct allegations have appeared to catch up with cain. a new poll from the "des moines register" shows support for cain in iowa has plummeted. back in october, he was polling around 23%. now he's at just 8%. the iowa caucuses is scheduled for a month from today. donald trump has a new job title. debate moderator. the business mogul will moderate a gop debate hosted by the conservative website newsmax in late december. all of the contenders have been invited, but jon huntsman already announced he will not attend the debate, and had some choice words for those attending. his spokesman told yahoo! news "we look forward to watching mitt romney and newt gingrich suck up to trump, with a big bowl of popcorn." today marks two years since cuba put a maryland man in prison on espionage charges. the wife of alan gross is calling for her husband's release. the 62-year-old from potomac claims he was trying to help a small jewish community in cuba get internet access. gross was a subcontractor for the u.s. agency for international development. a cuban court sentenced him to 15 years in prison. authorities in havana won't explain exactly what gross did but they doay the activities "constitute crimes in many countries in the world including in the united states and disrupts cuba's constitutional order." today, volunteers are showing their appreciation for veterans who served our country by spreading some holiday spirit. news 4's derrick ward is live in falls church, virginia for a secondary event. good morning. >> reporter: we're here in falls church for an event under way for a couple of days, always a good cause especially this time of year. i want to show you video of the effort that's been going on earlier this week, it's decorate a vet. for many of us, there are those mundane tasks like gutters and yard work and things like that, things, raking leaves especially this time of year, things we put off or even avoid. for veterans with injuries that affect their mobility or folks getting up in age these things can be frustrating and sometimes insurmountable challenges, that's where decorate a vet comes in. it's a non-profit. it's manned and womaned by volunteers who also do other work like making houses wheelchair-accessible, putting rails in, and this time of year they're adding a special twist to it, of course, making sure that holiday decorations aren't among the things that just fall by the wayside just because logistically it's a problem. this is the brainchild of two local businessmen, both of them were in the landscaping business. they hooked up with the american legion post 130 to find veterans who can benefit and of course they're always looking for volunteers and they also adopt deployed servicemen and women and there's an effort to see that bases overseas get the christmas treatment as well. today we're at the home of joe trombeau, a korean war veteran and they've been doing work on this house now. joining me now is jeff jones with decorate a vet and first of all, jeff, this is a great effort you're doing. tell me how this came about. >> well, i do as you mentioned own a landscaping company in the city, and part of that is being in and around a lot of the streets and the homes and so part of that just noticing some disheveled homes and homes that need a little bit of repair, combine that with the fact that i come from a military family and we married the two and started decorate a vet. >> reporter: it's just a way to say thank you. you've got your son here and it's obviously something you want to get the young people involved in as well, isn't it? >> well, yes. >> reporter: start 'em young. this house they've already done some work on it. i don't know if you can see it from here, those are new gutters back there, there's been some landscaping, i understand there was a lot of bamboo back here. that's been cleared and they're back out here to do work on the fences and also a couple of trees around front, more landscaping that's going to be done. part of this is because of efforts of local businessmen as we say, some of the stores will donate things like that and what have you. it's so important, because as people get up in age, these are the things that actually make people decide that, well maybe i can't keep the house anymore because i can't keep it up. >> absolutely. i mean this is definitely about wiping the slate clean. we've hauled away about four dumpsters full of debris from the five homes that we're doing in falls church, so it's definitely getting it back to a point where they can maintain it and we're also starting to develop programs where people can sponsor the veterans for their ongoing yard care so future lawn maintenance so it looks nice now and it remains nice in the future. >> and one of the other added touches you do is the flag. you talked about the flag that you leave at the house when you're done. >> absolutely. we create a custom flag with their branch of the service for each home, and that will be mounted as part of the decorating efforts. >> reporter: thank you so much for talking to us this morning. great effort, you got the folks up, thank you. of course later on they'll be putting up christmas lights and at dusk they will be turned on. so beautification going on here. we're live in falls church, back to you. >> all right, thanks so much, derrick. make sure to plan ahead and give yourself some extra time this morning if you plan on using the metro this weekend, right, angie?
