gun entered the store about 9:00 that saturday night and demanded money. investigators believe mrs. hernandez was complying with all demands. she was handing over the money when, for unknown reasons, one of the suspects shot her. the murder has caused great concern in this neighborhood. mrs. hernandez was well liked and very well respected. a number of new businesses opened up here recently. those merchants having been asking themselves, is it safe? there is certainly at this point a great sense of relief in this neighborhood that an arrest has been made public. we understand city officials are plan some type of press conference to take place here, but that details on that have not been firmed up yet. back to you. >> jackie benson, thank you. for the second time in a week parts of our coastline under a flood advisory right now. we've seen some unusual thunderstorms for november. bob ryan is up in the storm center with the latest. >> that is true. those moved out and the area of rain moved out, too. i want to show you where the area is. it's very, very minor. the folks at the weather service do it just as a precaution. the tides are a little bit above average. there's been no reports of any flooding, and certainly nothing like last week when we had that big, big nor'easter. as a matter of fact, in the entire east, that's the only areas. those are just the counties and air whys adjacent to the tidal potomac and the bay with an easterly to northeasterly breeze. that will be changing as we go through the next few hours. visibility in some areas are beginning to improve. still about a mile to folks in southern maryland. doppler, still lingering showers out around warrenton and winchester. the thunder we had earlier moved out. look at the rainfall, 0.03 inch. as we go through the nighttime hours, you can see all that area of rain clouds beginning to lift out of here. we'll see our temperatures again tomorrow about 60 degrees. that's where we are now. it will feel a whole lot different. i'll explain when i join you. no big threats for us tonight. >> thank you, bob. new detls tonight about the arrest of the wife of a high-ranking member of the senate on charges of drunk driving. charlene lugar was charged after police say she crashed into a parked car in a mclean neighborhood. investigators say she was drunk at the time. mrs. lugar is the wife of republican senator richard lugar of indiana. julie carey is in mclean with more on this. >> reporter: richard lugar, the most senior republican in the senate and one of the most influential members. tonight his wife charlene is getting the attention for a hit-and-run accident that took place across the street here. police say the accident happened just before 6:30 p.m. when a vehicle driven by senator richard lugar's wife charlene side-swiped a park car in front of churchill road elementary. the side view mirror was still lying in the grass today. witnesses say lugar's buick suv briefly ran off the road leaving tire marks behind before she sped off. about a mile away at the corner just across from the lugar home, police stopped the 77-year-old when they noticed damage on the suv. >> officer on routine patrol observed a vehicle with friend end damage and smoke emanating from it. based on that, he performed a traffic stop and subsequently investigation led to the arrest of charlene lugar for driving while intoxicated, as well as additional charge for hit-and-run. >> reporter: court documents show when charlene lugar was taken to the fairfax county detention center, her breathalyzer test registered .11 blood alcohol level. lugar's been charged also with hit-and-run. the records reveal mrs. lugar was driving her husband's car, which bears the indiana license plate with the number 1. senator richard lugar issued a statement today reading, thankfully no one was injured. we are deeply sorry and embarrassed this accident has occurred. parents at churchill road elementary say it's lucky no one was hurt. the school was holding a book fair last night and many parents and kids were walking to the event. >> to hear now it was a dru driver that came through here, how does that strike you? >> that's a shame with a lot of kids around. >> reporter: i reached charlene lugar by phone but told me she did not wish to discuss the incident. she is due in court in january. both charges against her, dwi and hit-and-run are misdemeanors. >> thank you, jue. we've got word of a car wreck in prince george's county tonight that left three teenagers seriously injured. fire officials tell us their minivan rolled over in glendale at the intersection of quarter horse and fletcher town roads. crews had to use the jaws of life to free the teens from the wreckage. a 17-year-old boy suffered serious life-threatening injuries. the others, a 19-year-old male and 14-year-old girl had serious injuries described as nonlife threatening. no word on what caused the van to roll over. investigators are still trying to figure out what caused a fiery car wreck that killed a teenager in vienna overnight. the car slammed into a tree in the 300 block of old courthouse road around 2:00 this morning. there were flames shooting from the car's engine when officers arrived. police tell us the dver 18-year-old alexander mcclellan is the one who died. he was from clifton. two passengers inside had to be cut from the vehicle. they are expected to be okay. the feds made a major move today to take down what is being described as a notorious gang operating in maryland. they include fire bombs, home invasions, robbery and murder. >> reporter: wendy, 125 agents, a series of early morning raids and arrests. the target, a gang known as "the latin kings." one of the atf raids this morning took place at this serene townhouse village in langley park. it was here that 27-year-old roddy peradas jr was arrested and some computers seized. we talked to the suspect's father and sister. >> it was scary seeing that. they were screaming, "put your hands up in the air." >> reporter: and they took your brother away? >> they come in and took my son this morning about 5:30 a.m. so they come, the cops and atf, and they come with about 15 guys. >> reporter: the latin kings in maryland have been dethroned. the feds announced the takedown of the maryland branch of the latin king gang. they go by names like king skeeby, king izzy, king nellie, king little one. some of the 19 members of the latin king gang charged with a variety of racketeering counts. >> they include shooting at rival gang members, committing armed robberies of drug dealers and prostitutes, stabbing victims and burglarizing a gun shot. >> reporter: roddy paradas jr was involved in a plan to murder a security guard, rob a prostitute and hunt down members of the ms-13 gang. again, we talked to his father. >> they took three computers and one laptop. >> reporter: did it say why? >> might be they think they are looking for like gangs. >> reporter: gangs? they think a gang was using computers to plan activity? >> it might be. >> reporter: do you think did he that? >> no. >> reporter: mr. peradas says he thinks his son was innocent and doesn't believe he was involved in gang activity. if convicted of all the charges against them, these alleged gang members could face life in prison. wendy, back to you. >> thank you, pat. tonight the state department's investigating allegations that the cameroon ambassador to the u.s. was involved in a scuffle outside the d.c. embassy today. happened around 11:00 this morning here in the 2300 block of massachusetts avenue in northwest. a group of people were protesting outside the embassy at the time. witnesses say the ambassador attacked one of the protest leaders, as well as a woman who happened to be recording the event on her camcorder. >> he comes running out of the embassy, pushed the girl with the camcorder and kicked the camcorder on the ground and started on her. >> reporter: who was the guy that came out of the embassy? >> the ambassador. >> reporter: how do you know? >> you could tell. >>he demonstration was about allegations that the ambassador was cheating the cameroon people out of money. the cameroon embassy has yet to release an official statement on the incident. the senate is now investigating the shooting at ft. hood. the homeland security committee there wants to know whether warning signs about the suspected gunman were ignored. army major nidal hasan as charged with 13 counts of murder. military prosecutors say he opened fire on unarmed soldiers and civilians at ft. hood november 5th. emergency room visits are down as health officials in virginia continue to give out doses of the swine flu vaccine to the public. commonwealth health officials tell us they've begin out a total of 1.2 million doses of the h1n1 vaccine. they've seen 27 deaths from the swine flu this season. doctors also note that virginia could see more illness in the future. they say the samples tested from patients have all been h1n1, and that the seasonal flu virus has not yet hit the state. >>. >> we have a news4 exclusive. d.c. mayor adrian fenty has been criticized using police escorts on his regular bike ride. there are complaints his triathlete swimming routine is affecting public use of the pool. >> reporter: the wilson aquatic center is heavily used. by who, how and when has become an issue. the wilson aquatic center in northwest washington opened earlier this year and is still getting rave reviews. >> absolutely love the pool. it's the best pool. >> the whole facility is absolutely wonderful. >> reporter: mayor adrian fenty, a triathlete who bikes, runs and swims competitively is a big fan, too. >> out of all the great things to happen to this city, that may be one of the top three things people give me feedback on. it's the best pool anyone has eefr seen. >> reporter: there are complaints the pool is too often laid out in the eight-lane configuration that favors fenty's style of swimming rather than the lanes that okay date more people. the wilson swim team competes at the 25 meter level. mayor fenty who faces criticism for use of police force with his bike rides, did not say whether he influenced the 50 meter decision. >> reporter: did you ask for it to be that way? >> asked for what? >> reporter: swim with a 50-meter lane. >> i was briefed by the director they wanted to make that change. >> reporter: the d.c. triathlon club defended the swim lane. >> it is not a wilson high school pool. it is for the entire community. swimming in a 50-meter lane is less congested. >> reporter: the pool is heavily used. whatever the reason for the limited 50-meter lanes, they are asking recreational officials to have 25 meter lanes to accommodate everyone. >> there is a compromise possible. we need to have some of the lanes 25 meter. that's what the wilson high school swim team participates in. it needs to practice what it going to compete in. >> late today the city recreation department told news4 it has heard the complaints. a new lane schedule will be out soon. it may be out as early as tomorrow. >>nstead of going this way it will go this way. >> long lanes 50 meters long. crosswise you get more lanes and the swim team can contract. >> and practice those flip pushes off the wall. >> it's one of the best pools i've ever seen. coming up on news4 at 5:00, allergy sufferers there is a new tool to give you relief. we'll tell you about a magic wand. >> news4 at 5:00 just getting started. >> also coming up tonight, what are your kids really doing? >> the faa computer glitch. a computer glitch caused major delays at some of our busiest airports nationwide. the problem, at the faa telecommunications center in salt lake city, air travelers nationwide and here had to scramble to revise their plans. eun yang has more. >> reporter: big delays could mean big problems for travelers coming in and out of reagan national. this family trying to headome to atlanta arrived at the airport when they learned the bad news. >> we showed up for an 11:00 flight. got here early. once we got here, we realized the flight was delayed about an hour and a half after. not too excited about that. >>eporter: widespread delays and cancellations are affecting air travelers across the country due to computer problems at the faa. the agency's system that collects airline flight plans is on the blitz in hartsfield-jackson in atlanta. >> they are paid to do their job. they have to have some backup plan, i would hope. >> i would think in the age of technology they should have a backup system of some kind. >> reporter: the faa says the problem started after 5:00 a.m. an airport dispatcher and controllers were processing the flight plans by hand. this is the second time in 15 months a glitch in the flight plan system has caused significant delays. >> we rely on computers for everything. when they go down, they make us miserable. >> reporter: the faa say they don't know how many flights were affected by the computer glitch and will take time to determine exactly what caused it. eun yang, news4. the faa tells us philadelphia, newark and laguardia are seeing 45-minute delays. national is currently experiencing 25-minute delays. a lot of clouds upthere. >> the fog, the low clouds, that probably is weather-related now. outside today we had the fog, we had some drizzle, we had some rain. this is how it looks outside right now. you've got the low clouds. what is it "twilight" with the vampires coming? >> is it a new moon? >> it's a crescent moon. that's part of the reason the tides are a little above average. there was a coastal flood advisory out in the potomac and the bay. our temperature is a somewhat humid 60 degrees. our rainfall today, washington, 0.03 inch, charlottesville almost 2 inches of way. temperature right now, 61 here in washington. 7. this is toward the tail end of november. in wilmington, north carolina, that's not all. it is a touch of humidity. now we get a pattern where the weather systems tend to move right along. we have another one developing in the gulf. the first one is that little area of low pressure and a cold front is coming through later on this evening. in front of it have been those showers. even the rumbles of thunder. there is one lingering area of thunderstorms up around baltimore right now. you can see for you folks into front royal and around warrenton, manassas, there are lingering showers out that way. up into western parts of loudoun county. all of this moving rapidly toward the northeast. a few more hours with leftover clouds, fog and drizzle. all that continues to move to the north. that's where the heavier rains are right now moving on into parts of pennsylvania. look at front royal. we had a hu few hundred doll0.0. it will be breezy, but a pleasant day. there is another area of storminess. this one will develop to our south. nothing like the big coastal storm. as we get late into sunday and monday, that will be bringing us the next batch of rain. tomorrow temperatures again a bit above average. very, very pleasant. lingering showers, fog, drizzle tonight. that all begins to really move off as those northwesterly winds come in. when you get up and head out tomorrow you feel the difference. they will be cool, but pleasant with temperatures tomorrow with a lot of sunshine after the morning clouds break up. a lot of sunshine, temperatures rise rapidly into the high 50s to low 60s. outdoor recess for your friday. that's important for teachers and students, too. and saturday and most of sunday, i think, will be fine. saturday especially. nice day. some increasing clouds maybe by sunday evening we'll see some rains that will linger into monday. monday morning with temperatures in the 50s. tell you more about next week and thanksgiving, a week away. >> we'll see you then. thank you. stay right there, a whole lot more to come. the allergy wand. could your allergy problems be solved with a simple stick?
