ak f se a raid on friday captured europe's most wanted man in connection with the november paris terror attacks that killed 130 people. terror group isis is claiming responsibility for today's mark barger nbc news. most european airports are known for strict screening procedures for passengers that takes place when checking in. after the attacks at the world trade center we heard countless stories of how people missed their flights all together. >> a triangle man missed a he stepped out of line to get something he needed. >> reporter: before i spoke with mark nole i spoke with his wife in raliegh who got a terrifying call this morning around 3:00 a.m. from her husband telling her what had happened and that he was okay. nole, originally from belgium was flying home to raliegh by way of atlanta when the explosion ripped through the terminal in the exact spot he stepped away for a moment. he stepped away to buy a magazine in the terminal just before the blast. >> that's probably what saved my life. i i saw one other person jumped on the cash register of where we were and waited. shortly after there was a second explosion further away. >> reporter: nole told me he and 50 others evacuated the store to a safe area of the airport. he was able to leave and make his way back to his sister's house. he said he sent his wife a text a few minutes before he called children and three grandchildren that he loved them and might not survive the attack. now that he did survive he says today is the first day of his second life. >> wow! that is one powerful story. >> chilling. >> it really is. thank you for that. so glad he is okay. reaction to the terror attack in brussels is prompting stepped up security in the u.s. washington, d.c. metro transit sweeps at patrols in the metro stations this morning. officials say there is no known specific or credible threat against the metro at this time. extra sweeps are being conducted out of an abundance of caution. d.c. police posted reminders at stations encouraging commuters to report anything suspicious directly to metro offices. although there are no credible threats in the triangle we wanted to check on security measures at the international airport. >> tara, what is the mood like? >> reporter: for the most part everything has been calm. officials. they do not want to comment on information to somebody who could use it against them. they will say they have a robust security system that's multilevel and multiagency. they would only comment if this was some rule changes to check would affect the time passengers need to arrive. it seems like a typical morning at rdu. it is around that spring break time for colleges and schools. so it is a busy time of year. rd does have one nonstop international flight that happens once a day and in the evenings to london. starting in may rdu will offer nonstop flights to paris. we didn't have a chance to find international travelers here this morning but we spoke with a woman who flew in from atlanta. she says security there was tight. she, herself, was extra cautious after learning of today's attacks in brussels. >> they had quite a bit of security. more than normal. i was looking at how they were letting employees in, that was different than what was normal. we had to go through stringent security in atlanta. >> reporter: she said she was who was sitting next to her that had not quite turned their phone off at the designated time they were supposed to turn their phone off. she was checking on passengers that they were not doing what doing. mount. it happened last night. >> four students were riding all together in one car. the driver of the other vehicle went to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. sloan is live with what we have learned about the victims and the information on an incredible sad day there. >> reporter: it is an incredibly sad day, you are correct, here at the north carolina wesley college campus. this accident happened literally in front of the school. left in front of the sign in honor of these four students who lost their lives. it happened at 8:30 last night. we are learning more about the four young ladies killed in this crash. they are 20-year-old candice jones of littleton. 19-year-old danny scott of raliegh. 20-year-old kerry brown of henderson and 20-year-old robin barnes of conway. all freshman. all members of the class of 2019. classes canceled here on campus today. we are expecting to learn more about this crash as the investigation continues. so far no charges have been filed. convicted in a triple murder in pit county. jurors took less than an hour to convict antwaan anthony on three counts of first degree murder for the deaths of three convenience store employees in 2012. he showed no emotion when the court read the verdict. he could be sentenced to death or life in prison. president obama's historic trip to cuba wraps up today. day ahead of him. this morning he delivered a speech at a historic theater in havana. cuban president castro was there for the speech. the president will now attend a major league exhibition game between the tampa bay rays and a cuban national team. starting in may carnival cruise lines are offer cultural exchange trips to cuba. ships will visit ports in havana and other cities. they'll carry 704 passengers, which is smaller than many industry ships. you won't see casinos or broadway shows on board. instead guests will spend eight hours each day involved in voyages last seven days. a boat believed to be debris from a 2011 tsunami in japan has been spotted off the southern oregon coast. u.s. security guard helicopter crew spotted he 35-foot boat last week. state and federal officials have been keeping an eye on the debris. if the boat washes up on the beach a salvager will be called in to remove it. there have been no signs of dangerous materials on the boat. i got outside today and went to the wral gardens. eastward. warmer air is coming up from the south. entire system will shift eastward. we get into the warm air that stretches back to denver and across the mississippi valley. it is coming our way. we'll see more of it tomorrow and thursday. it stays mild for us all the way through the weekend. 65 for this afternoon's high. this morning we drop down to 32. we hit 32 on the nose. we had a frost advisory. temperatures will be a good ten degrees warmer tomorrow morning. 76 the high temperature. we have a nice jump in our high in the afternoon. expected to be a little breezy with a southwesterly wind 25 to 30 miles per hour. that will be the gusts we'll see. probably the warmest day of the week. not close to the record of 88. it is half way between the normal and our record. we
