you know what, we're going to bring the nation together. >> before headed to des moines, trump paid a visit to the victims of last week's attack at ohio state university. he met with 150 first responders including the police officer who shot and killed the student accused of driving into pedestrians before stabbing them, injuring 11. the second officer shot in the domestic violence call in georgia has die. officer smith was critically injured in that shoots and underwent surgery, but did not survive. smith and officer nicholas smar who died at the scene were lifelong friends, responding to the domestic dispute complaint when a gunman opened fire, taking off, triggering an all out man hunt, and that search ended when they found the suspect inside a home where he was hiding. police say he took his own life. new insight into why the trial of a former south carolina police officer accused of shooting an unarmed black man ended with a hung jury. jury foreman, montgomery, the only african-american on the panel, said one of the jurors would not budge on acquitting michael. they said it was passion in a minute, emotional, and heated, and said the final vote was 10-2 on conviction. well, a neighboring south carolina is expected to be another grueling day in the courtroom for the death penalty trial of dylan roof, confessing to gunning down nine people in the racially motivated attack. we're learning during opening statements, roof's mother suffered a heart attack in the courtroom. on day two, the jury saw dist b disturbing images from the crime scene so graphic we're not able to show it on tv. >> reporter: jurors got to see what parishioners say was the evil quietly sitting at their bible study. this screen grab from a snapchat video shows him to the right moments before police say he killed nearly everyone in this room. in court, graphic images from the basement of this historic black church, too disturbing to show here, but looked like this with pools of blood. underneath the tables were dead bodies of parishioners who hid from the gunfire. police put down yellow markers. the reverend number one leaving behind these beautiful girls. >> i give my absolute best to make a difference in the lives, the people i represent. >> reporter: prosecutors say the accused killer hoped to start a race war. roof's lawyers are expecting to loose and hoping to argue against the death penalty, but the pictures seen in court may not help their case. abc news, charleston. to michigan now, and the westbound lanes of interstate 96 in the central part of the state reopen after three people were killed and 11 injured in an accident that involved about 40 vehicles in whiteout conditions. meantime, officials are trying to reopen interstate 90 east of cleveland after another large pileup. you can see these images. it involved dozens of vehicles. that accident began when a tractor trailer jackknifed in heavy snow. highways closed still in both directions. this accident in st. paul doesn't appear weather related. the driver said the school bus m malfunctioned while turning the corner. ten students were on board and the bus smashed seven parked cars on the street. nobody was injured. the parked cars not so lucky. the vehicle was just inspected and no depicts were found. the long time driver was suspended while the company investigates all that. surgeon general sounded an alarm about e-cigarettes and youths that vaping is not harmless and too many teens are doing it. they turn liquid nicotine into inhaleble vapor and more research is needed into the health effects. they said it's the tobacco product most commonly used by young people. all right. we're going to switch to a serious note now. a talent show by definition really only as good as the talent on display, of course. so let's just say this guy that you're about to see again has a unique talent. ♪ >> oh, that's, yes, the winner of finland's version of "america's got talent." >> his talent, obviously, referred to as hand farting. if you couldn't tell, the song he was playing was "happy christmas, the war is over," and it was good enough to win the guy first place, worth the equivalent of 31,000 dollars. >> i feel like that's only a talent if you can do it from the other end. don't you think? erie. somehow, there were no fatalities. >> in central michigan, three killed in aup involving 40 vehicles on i-6. yesterday, new york got three feet of snow, more than all of last year. all the cold air moves east bringing the first freeze to major cities of the northeast. abc has the story. >> reporter: along the great lakes, the first major snowstorm of the year is reeking havoc for drivers. the mangled mess of up to 70 tractor trailer and cars on interstate 90 in erie, pennsylvania. >> watched the guy climb out of his seat. >> reporter: many right there as first responders raced to pull victims from the wreckage. roads going from clear to whiteout in an instant bringing wreck along the great lakes from ohio to western new york where snowfall was over 2 inches an hour made it hard to
