Places where ive fallen short, ive told hillary, and ill tell y you, whats picked me back up every single time, its been you. The American People. Its the letter i keep on my wall from a survivor in ohio who twice almost lost everything to cancer but urged me to keep fighting for health care reform, even when the battle seemed lost, do not quit. Its the painting i keep in my private office, a big eyed green owl with blue wings, made by a 7yearold girl who was taken from us in newtown. Given to me by her parents so i wouldnt forget. A reminder of all the parents who have turned their grief into action. Its the Small Business owner in colorado who cut most of his own salary so he wouldnt have to lay off any of his workers in the recession. Because, he said, that wouldnt have been in the spirit of america. Its the conservative in texas who said, he disagreed with me on everything but he appreciated that, like him, i try to be a good dad. Its the courage of the young soldier from arizona who nearly died on the battlefield in afghanistan, but who has learned to speak again and walk again. And earlier this year, stepped through the door of the oval office on his own power to salute and shake my happened. It is every american who beli e believes we can change this country for the better. So many of you who had never been involved in politics, who picked up phones and hit the streets and used the internet in amazing new ways that i didnt really understand, but made change happen. You are the best organizers on the planet, and i am so proud of all the change that you made possible. Time and again, youve picked me up. And i hope sometimes i picked you up, too. And tonight, i ask you to do for Hillary Clinton what you did for me. I ask you to carry her, the same way you carried me. Because youre who i was talking about 12 years ago, when i talked about hope. Its been you who fueled my dogged faith in our future, even when the odds were great, even when the road is long, hope in the face of difficulty, hope in the face of uncertainty. The audacity of hope. America, youve vindicated that hope these past eight years. And now, im ready to pass the baton and do my part as a private citizen, so this year, in this election, im asking you to join me, to reject cynicism and reject fear and to summon what is best in us to elect Hillary Clinton as the next president of the United States. And show the world we still believe in the promise of this great nation. Thank you for this incredible journey. Lets keep it going. God bless you. God bless the United States of america. 12 years to the day he burst on the national scene, twoterm president barack obama gives his political valedictory. Grateful, emotional at the end. Thanking the American People for picking him up when he was down. Passing the baton, as he said, to Hillary Clinton, remarkably generous speech for a president to give. Saying that Hillary Clinton, no man or woman, no one who has held the office has been more qualified to serve as president of the United States of america. Hillary clinton can serve as president of the United States of america. Improved for donald trump, imag images. Its her optimism. He called for the audacity of hope. An. There. This is a relationship that was not formed easily, but look how grateful she is for that speech he gave tonight. Tears in her eyes, as well. Say i saying hes proud of her. The most optimistic candidate, the most optimistic campaign. He called the deeply pessimistic vision we saw in cleveland. The question is, is this year different . Well, i mean, theres so many articles of faith in this election that have been broken in a in. And what normally happens is, the outsider is coupled with the optimism. 1992, bill clinton. 2008, Barack Hussein obama, 1980, ronald reagan, but this year, the outsider is pessimistic and the insider is optimistic. Which may be why, jon karl, we saw him take off on donald trump again and again and again in that speech. A president has never done that. George, we have never seen an outgoing lame duck president give a speech anywhere near this, like this, he went at donald trump. He sees donald trump as not a political rival, but somebody who is dangerous. This is personal. This is a campaign that he is eager to be apart of and to fight. Pierre thomas, you pointed out, we saw the contempt we talked about earlier, the president even laughing when he talked about trump. There was a sneer often when he talked about donald trump as if, i cant believe this guys actually in the position that hes in. The other thing that struck me is that he talked about the great collective, that this country is great because of diversity, contrasting donald trump. Talked about a big america. Martha raddatz, personal testimony to Hillary Clinton, saying he had a front row seat to her intelligence. Where as bill clinton talked about her soft side last night, he talked about her toughness and tenacity. He talked about her toughness, her discipline, her good judgment. Tenacity, he said, over and over again. He talked about the raid on osama bin laden. He painted her as a tough leader who would be a good commander in cheech, b chief, but he, too, mentioned her as a mother and grandmother, really, again, the first time in history weve heard those words. Tim kaine right there, a shoutout for tim kaine, as well. And david muir, he had this crowd in the palm of his hand. No question, george, did he have the crowd in the palm of his hand. And that moment at the end, when Hillary Clinton emerged on that stage, you know, tim kaine is here in the audience, his family, bill clinton is here, but they chose that the two of them would walk out on that stage together and what an incredible story between these two people who were rivals eight years ago, and him coming out here tonight and passing the baton, as you said, pointing out that she is not the woman on the sidelines. She is the woman in the arena. Sometimes not noticed, in his words, but he urged this audience not to boo, but to vote for the woman in the arena, george. Terry moran, he quieted the protesters in the crowd. He did, george. And he also paid tribute, explicitly and implicitty to the Bernie Sanders people here. He created their hard work, their passion and working on the issues of income inequality and other things. He reached out to them on that issue of democracy, i think the whole conventions emotional level has been raised by the unpredictability and the passion of the Bernie Sanders delegate. Im going to ask this lady right here, can i ask, what did you think of the president s speech . Oh, its unbelievable. Wonderful. Hes hes a star. Hes an star. We love him. All of us do. All right, and that is definitely the feeling. Thank you very much. Right throughout the hall here. He played this hall like an organ. George . The emotional level is raised. And cecilia vega, the bar very high for Hillary Clinton tomorrow. You saw the smile on her face. George, im standing here near clinton and obama staffers. They were crying during this speech. I also want you to know, i am standing where i can see the teleprompter, the president was reading from it and he made that joke about the birth certificate, that was not in his prepared remarks. Martha said it, this was a commander in speech test that he laid out, who can best walk into the oval office and do that job, he made the case, he said, its Hillary Clinton. This is going to be his stump speech. Tomorrow night, Hillary Clintons night. Well be here right here at 10 00 eastern. For now, we send you back to your regular programming. For some of you, that is your local news. And ill see you tomorrow on gma. This has been a presentation of abc news. I approve this message. Donald trump i could stand in the middle of 5th avenue and shoot somebody and i wouldnt lose any voters, okay . And you can tell them to go f themselves you know, you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever. You gotta see this guy. Ahh, i dont know what i said, ahh. I dont remember. Hes going like i dont remember Delaware Valley with jim gardner. The scene a moment ago as this crowd went absolutely wild. Hillary clinton and the deleg e delegates here joining her former boss, president barack obama. Hillary clinton, making this her own convention on this night. On a night that included more than a few heavy hitting democrats, he was the heaviest hitter of them all. President barack obama came out tonight and sent the delegates into delirium to explain to the country, why in his view, Hillary Clinton must be elected president. Good evening. President barack obama, Vice President biden, tim kaine and Michael Bloomberg speaking. The final speech came from president obama who flew into philadelphia 90 minutes before taking the stage. He called donald trump risky. The donald is not a planned guy. Hes not really a fast guy, either. Hes a sensitive guy, which is true. I know plenty of businessmen and women who achieved remarkable success without a trail of lawsuits, unpaid workers and people feeling like they got cheated. Reporter obama went through several drabs, but only rehearsed it in full once, yesterday. The president highlighted clintons capability as a leader, his view and called on voters to elect her come november. No matter how daunting the odds, no matter how much people try to knock her down, she never, ever quits. That is the hillary i know. That is the hillary i have come to admire and thats why i can say with confidence, there has never been a man or a woman, not me, not bill, nobody more qualified than Hillary Clinton to serve as president of the United States of america. Reporter senator tim kaine officially accepted his partys nomination for Vice President tonight. The former governor of virginia highlighted his humble roots and told the American Voters how his wife prepared him for the job of Vice President. This journey that i told you about has convinced me over and over again that god has created, in our country, a beautiful and rich tapestry, an incredible Cultural Diversity that succeeds. When we embrace in love and battle back the dark forces of division. Reporter kaine talked about the differences between Hillary Clinton and donald trump and warned trump cannot be trusted. On the floor of the delaware delegates, they listen to the speech, Vice President , joe biden. And we are hearing from former Philadelphia Police commissioner. And the protest front with the bernie or bust crowd. Another donald trump controversy today, this one over what he wants russian spies to do with Hillary Clintons emails. We begin with action News Reporter on the floor with the new jersey delegation. Good evening. Reporter hi there, jim. Passionate speeches from the speakers. Vice president , joe biden, he was talking about concept. He has no clue about the middle class. The Vice President saying Hillary Clintons experience and president obama describing Hillary Clinton as the torchbearer. No man or woman, he said, was more qualified to be president. The crowd erupted. It was not expected at all. Everyone was excited about it. We talked to delegates and here is what they have to say. Its exactly what we need. The hope that hes given us for the eight years hes been in office. We are a great country and optimistic about the future as ever before. What did you think of senator kaines speech . Amazing, invigorating, exciting and very real. I think tonight is an Election Night of the Democratic Party. The president may have given one of the better speeches in modern history. Unite the party. Look around the room, you have thousands and thousands of people who are going to work to make sure Hillary Clinton and kaine win this election. Reporter back live now, as you are watching the delegates leave the auditorium, this place was wild a couple minutes ago. A nice moment before the speeches started. I dont know if you caught it, but a number of stars began singing what the world needs now. It was after speeches on gun violence, it included Gabby Giffords and a mother who had a son killed. Hillary clinton arrived and that tore the place apart. Live on the floor, nora muchanic, channel 6 action news. Thank you. Lets switch live to Sarah Bloomquist in the arena. Sarah, the delaware delegates must have been bursting with pride as Vice President , joe biden, took the stage. Reporter joe biden got a tremendous reception from all the delegates here on the convention floor. He told the delegates he knows Hillary Clinton and as we come to expect from joe biden, he told us exactly like he sees it when it comes to donald trump. Watch as he entered on to the stage and listen what delaware delegates had to say about his appearance tonight. We all unde will mean for our daughters and granddaughters when Hillary Clinton walks into the ovl office as president of the United States of america. It will change their lives. My daughters and granddaughters can do anything any son or grandson can do. Think about that. Think about everything you learned as a child. No matter where you were raised. How can there be pleasure in saying you are fired. Hes trying to tell us he cares about the middle class. Give me a break. Thats a bunch of mularkey. T. He showed us how much he cared about not only people in delaware but throughout the entire country. Is very, very important we take that. You feel more values as americans, the middle class jobs. You can see it on display. He said this is a swan song for joe biden, this is the end. They dont know joe. Hes going to continue to make an amazing appearance. He will do great things for us in the years ahead. Reporter delegates dont think this is the end of seeing the man they simply know as joe, here on a national stage. On this night for the democrats, donald trump is occupying a good deal of conversation here. Whats not clear is whether he wants that conversation or not, considering what people are conversing about. Here is the story and here is what Vice President biden and i were talking about as you will see in a short time. It happ conference in miami. Trump directed a request to the russian government to hunt down the missing Hillary Clinton emails. Here is what he said. The American Dream we have all been that created a fire storm from democrats, republicans and the Foreign Policy establishment. Committing espionage against a rival, even trumps running mate, pence said there would be serious consequences if he meddled in the election. You have reaction to the latest trump story. Reporter jim, i talked with several National Security experts today. They are literally up in arms about what trump did. The democrats, of course, hope to exploit this latest trump jaw dropper. Official reactions came swiftly. Here is chris co osons. Donald trump doesnt understand what hes playing with. Hes urging a hostile foreign power to conduct espionage and break into the emails of the democratic nominee. Reporter staffers sabotaging Bernie Sanders campaign. All signs analysts say point to the kremlin. They are 99. 9 convinced it was the russians. Reporter anger from clinton supporters.
