Lets get straight to the breaking news. Terror raids in belgium. A fresh sign of the fears in europe and here at home. The map, belgium authorities raiding dozens of homes in and around the capital city of brussels. 12 people have been arrested. These raids come as the country is on high alert after the attacks in march at the airport and subway which left 32 people dead. While officials in belgium have not linked these latest to the attacks in march they do say they had reason to believe another violent attack was likely planned in the very near future and that, quote, Immediate Intervention was required. And for the very latest this morning lets get it over to Alex Marquardt who is monitoring developments from our london bureau. Good morning, alex. Reporter good morning. Paula, dan, thats right, belgian Authorities Say they have 12 people in custody who may have been planning further terror attacks. The belgian federal prosecutor said the investigation into this had gotten to the point where this intervention was necessary. These sweeping raids took place mainly around the capital of brussels in 16 different locations. Dozens of homes searched, more than 150 garages as well but no guns or explosives were found. Belgiums public broadcaster reported that the raids were prompted by surveillance that indicated several of the suspects belonged to a cell that had the desire and the means to carry out an attack. This comes as france which is right next door is hosting the euro soccer championships. French authorities have called the Terror Threat extremely high but promise that they have taken all the precautions they can. Now, since those isis linked attacks in brussels in march that killed 32 belgium has also been on high alert but now that threat level is at its second highest means authorities do not think an attack is eminent. Alex, one more question for you. Authorities are on alert because of ramadan. Could you explain that for us. If we had people where the bullets were going in the opposite direction right smack between the eyes of this maniac. Reporter this morning donald trump says the key to stopping attacks like the one in orlando, more guns. If some of those wonderful people had guns strapped right here, right to their waist or right to their ankle, this son of a [ muted ] comes out and starts shooting, and one of the people in that room happen to have it and goes, boom, boom, you know what, that would have been a beautiful, beautiful sight, folks.
