>> john miller. >> what is your position? >> well, i'm sort of handling pr because you get so much of it. >> reporter: donald trump insists this voice isn't here. >> he's starting to do tremendously well financially. >> but it sure sounds like him. >> leading tremendously big. >> reporter: the presumptive nominee is under fire this morning for this 1991 recording reportedly of trump pretending to be his own spokesman bragging about himself. >> he's somebody that has a lot of options and, frankly, you know, he gets called by everybody. he gets called by everybody in the book in terms of women. >> reporter: the supposed spokesman is heard boasting to a "people" magazine reporter about trump's exploits with women saying he isn't ready to commit to then girlfriend marla maples. >> he's living with marla and he's got three other girlfriends. >> reporter: and that trump is fending off calls from superstars like madonna. >> she called and wanted to go out with him. >> reporter: sound familiar? >> that i can tell you. >> that i can tell you. >> that i can tell you, okay. >> reporter: according to "the washington post" trump routinely made calls like this to reporters in the '80s and '90s using various names including john miller. >> you know, people who said that he spoke with all the mannerisms that you knew from donald trump, and you can hear them in this tape. >> reporter: a few weeks after the call, trump reportedly admitted it was a joke gone awry, but now trump denies it was him. now, trump also reportedly had a publicist named john baron who bore a similar un kan canny resemblance to mr. trump. baron, of course, the name of his son. >> john miller, and john baron. >> i have to imagine the campaign is scrambling. how are they explaining all this? >> reporter: trump is sticking by that denial but in another strange twist "the washington post" was interviewing trump on the phone and when they asked if he ever employed a john miller, the line suddenly went dead. >> all right, mary. as you said, stranger than fiction. >> yeah, all right, mary, thank you. >> thank you. let's bring in political commentator lz granderson to weigh in on this. lz, good morning, sir. so let me just ask you straight up, do you buy trump's denials here? >> of course not. i don't think anyone who's paid attention to his cadence over the past six to eight months can read a transcript and not think it's donald trump but him denying this is kind of par for the course. >> yeah, it sounds just like him but, of course, he has denied it so how does he walk this back if at all? >> well, he doesn't need to walk it back, and he's proven through his entire primary season that he can say things that aren't true, say things about himself that aren't true, get caught in the untruth and still go forward without it harming his impact on voters, and so i don't think he does walk it back. i think he denies, denies, denies and then hopes that we move on to something else. >> let me just pick up on that point specifically. this is far from the first campaign controversy trump has endured and during the primaries nothing seemed to hurt him. however, now that we're basically in the general election, do you think this whole teflon donald thing may change? >> well, do you remember the song back in 2000 by reggae the artist by the name of shaggy? he had a song called "it wasn't me." >> "it wasn't me." >> it was very, very popular because it was about this guy who was caught cheating on his girlfriend visually looking at him cheating and his excuse is it wasn't me, and this is like donald trump's entire strategy is that when he gets caught, whether he says things that's on his actual website, whether it's an audio recording, whether people to corroborate with the fact that he lied about something, he's continued to say it wasn't me, and so i don't expect that to change at all. >> lz, you may or may not be aware of this but paula has set out this rule within the staff here that anybody who can work in a reference to the 2000 hit "it wasn't me" by reggae artist gets a gold star, so congratulations, my friend. that was very well played. >> thank you very much. >> and you also happened to tie in a song from dan's playlist so congratulations, lz. >> i will be working out to that song later today. lz, thank you very much. i want to quickly remind everyone, we'll have much more on this tomorrow morning on "this week" right here on abc with chief anchor, george stephanopoulos. >> thanks, dan. now to the battle brewing over transgender bathroom access in public schools. the government issued new guidelines to school districts, but some say they comply even though they could face fines and withdrawal of public funding, and abc's eva pilgrim is on the story for us this morning. hi, eva. >> reporter: good morning, paula. squaring off both sides of the bathroom law debate with no compromise in sight, emotions running high as schools are now trying to figure out what to do next. across the country, meetings with public officials packed with protesters on both sides refusing to back down in the bathroom debate. >> democracy. >> reporter: the obama administration now telling schools to let transgender students use the bathrooms and locker rooms that match their gender identity. >> this does not add any additional requirements to any school district or state under the applicable law. >> reporter: the federal guidance met with praise from some. >> i started skipping school because i didn't feel safe in school. >> it's very important that the school district set the example and show that inclusion is the way to go and it's also the law. >> reporter: but concerns of safety from others. >> i will stay at home every day and homeschool. >> i understand that times are changing, but i don't think that this is the right solution. >> reporter: this morning politicians in many of the country's more conservative states vowing defiance. >> i am working with the governor of north carolina and we are going to fight back. >> we shouldn't even be having to have this debate in america. >> i'm a little bit old fashioned this way. i think men ought to be able to go to the men's room. women ought to be able to go to the women's room. >> reporter: meanwhile, caught in the middle, schools, those that refuse to comply could be hit with civil rights lawsuits from the government as well as risk being cut off from millions of dollars in federal aid. >> this is a law and we're going to follow the law but we're going to do it with sensitivity to our entire population. >> reporter: these suggestions aren't law but many are finding themselves in an interesting position this morning as they try to figure out how to handle the situation. >> you mentioned the protocol. i mean, these students have to -- their parent or a guardian has to come forward and say this is how they identify. they can't just show up in the bathroom, right? >> right. they have to say they're identifying as male or female and they're a transgendered student so they can be protected. >> protocols in place, eva, thank you. >> eva, thank you. let's talk about the tsa under fire with security lines getting ridiculously and infuriatingly long, the agency is now under massive pressure to fix this situation before the busy summer travel season hits. abc's david kerley goes one-on-one with the guy in charge. >> okay, here's the start. >> reporter: this was the scene at chicago's midway airport this week. watch how long this tsa security line is. we're going to time how long it takes to get to the back of the line from the beginning of this story to the end. across the country, lines of more than an hour even up to three. >> this is a nightmare. >> reporter: this was seattle friday, and the summer travel season hasn't even started. >> you've been hearing horror stories about people standing in line missing their flights. >> reporter: the complaints are pouring into tsa and the department of homeland security, which the secretary has heard loud and clear. >> you want to keep passengers moving, but we want to keep passengers safe. that is our primary obligation. >> reporter: the top security officials say they have a ten-point plan to try and shorten the lines. they hope to have more than 750 new officers on the job by next month. more canine units, which can clear passengers asking airlines to cut the number of carry-on bags, which have to be screened. and more overtime pay to keep officers on the lanes. but will it work? mr. secretary, will passengers wait three hours this summer in line? >> obviously waiting three hours for what may be a two-hour flight or a 90-minute flight is not acceptable, and that's not a good thing and it would tax everybody's patience. >> reporter: the problem, more of us are flying. security has been tightened because of test failures and congress has not increased the number of tsa officers. >> hopefully that they could, you know, the powers that be would solve these problems and make it simpler for people. >> reporter: remember that line at midway? well, we're at the end of our story, and we have to speed up this video just to show you where it ends. for "good morning america," david kerley, abc news, washington. >> it's just giving me hives. just to look at that. >> anxiety. >> absolutely. >> if you wanted to know, i don't see any hives actually coming to the surface. >> that's the benefit of makeup, laermg. >> sometimes it's easier to drive. that's the moral. >> that's a pretty good point or take a train. there is a lot of other news and for that as always let's kick it over to dr. ron claiborne. >> i don't want to interrupt that rambling postscript. please, keep going. >> don't tempt me. i will. >> good morning to you, dan and paula. the tennessee titan there, rachel smith, good morning to you. good morning, everyone. we begin with the latest on the zika virus here in the u.s. the cdc confirming the first reported case of microcephaly in a fetus, this one linked in a case to a virus in puerto rico. microcephaly which causes babies to be born with abnormally small heads and prevents the brain from developing properly has been linked to zika. it's the first known birth defect contracted in the u.s. a massive manhunt in manchester, new hampshire, is over and police saying that city is safe. police arrested 32-year-old ian macpherson in the shootings of two officers in separate incidents thursday night. one officer was shot in the face but survived. macpherson is being charged with two counts of attempted capital murder. each carrying a maximum sentence of life in prison. and a horrific scene outside of a california elementary school. nine children injured after being struck by a car just as school was letting out. witnesses reporting a car seat flying through the air and a stroller pinned under the vehicle. the youngest victim just 11 months old. del mar, california, police, say the 70-year-old hit another car while parked, panicked and hit the gas pedal driving into the crowded sidewalk. also in california, near fresno, three people killed when the pickup truck they were in was hit and cut in two by an amtrak passenger train going 80 miles an hour. the driver of the pickup truck apparently pulled around a stopped freight train at a crossing and then was hit by the amtrak train on the other side of the tracks. no one on that passenger train though was hurt. and take a look at this. it's a hiker in a lot of trouble in california. los angeles, california, you can see her clinging to the rocks while stranded on a cliff in griffith park in l.a. a fire department rescue team was able to reach the woman and using protective gear and strapping her into a harness as you see there get her to safety. happy ending there. the country's largest youth football league is banning kickoffs for its youngest players. starting this fall the three youngest pop warner divisions that's children between the age of 5 and 10 years of age, will begin their games with the ball on the 35 yard line instead of kickoffs. the ban is the latest attempt to reduce head injuries in the sport. the nfl also said to be considering a similar change, considering. moving to the nba playoffs, the miami heat forcing a game seven in the eastern conference as the heat's goran dragic poured in a career high 30 points. final score, miami 103, toronto raptor, 91. that series now tied at three games apiece and they will meet again sunday afternoon. that game in toronto. it will be here on abc 330 eastern time. and a star-studded night at the white house, the first family hosting a dinner honoring leaders from the nordic european nations. if you don't know, those are iceland, finland, norway, denmark and sweden. >> thank you, ron. >> mrs. obama wearing an >> mrs. obama wearing an off-the-shoulder naeem khan dress. i knew that for the occasion. among the guests will ferrell, david letterman and that man there -- >> david muir. >> david muir along with his wife patricia. >> what was david wearing. do you have any idea. >> he was wearing a tuxedo. >> fashion designer. >> i don't know. >> fashion play-by-play. >> i never heard of naeem khan believe it or not until moments ago. >> she's something. >> confession. >> you're not done, though, are you? gone overboard. the u.s. coast guard is searching the waters in the gulf of mexico where the carnival "liberty" was docked when the passenger was last seen. also colorado rockies shortstop jose reyes has been suspended without pay till the end of the month. major league baseball announcing this decision stemming from a domestic violence charge against his wife last october. reyes already on leave since february to deal with the criminal charges, so he is out until may 31st. coming up on the show this morning, a terrifying scene overlook. a limousine filled with students heading to the prom bursting into flames. with prom season now upon us, the growing concerns for parents about safety in these vehicles. but first here a skydiving plane flies directly into trouble. >> we want you to kayna. >> reporter: paula, dan, good morning to you. the pilot in lodi, california, had to make an emergency landing with 17 skydivers on board. they were packed inside this tiny plane, and many of them saying this morning, they're lucky to be alive. this morning, terrifying video showing a plane filled with 17 skydivers dropping from the sky. just after takeoff the cessna 208 started having engine trouble. >> all of a sudden we started smelling gas in the airplane and we noticed that the plane wasn't sounding right. >> reporter: the helmet mounted cameras showing the plane skidding into an open field flipping onto its side. watch again. you can see the ground rushing up the sides. >> it looked like a crop duster plane that would go low and tthen come up right before the wires, but, no, this plane came right down, clipped our car. >> reporter: then darkness. the skydivers thrown everywhere slamming into each other in the chaos. >> get off me. get off me. >> the next thing we know somebody's freaking out in the back of the plane. screaming. >> i think it was like a matter of a second. i didn't think i was going home. >> reporter: the plane coming to a stop upside down. take another look as the passengers scramble to escape the plane including the skydiver recording all along. >> you saved my life. yeah, i think he saved 17 lives that day. >> reporter: crashing down with enough force to leave 900 feet trail of scarred earth and mangled crops. of scarred earth and mangled crops. the plane behind me, the front end crushed and it's tangled up in grapevine lines. >> i just survived a near-death experience and packed up all my gear and ran home and grabbed my son. >> reporter: amazingly no one was seriously injured. >> if it wasn't for that pilot, you know, we wouldn't have made it. >> the pilot did have some minor injuries, but many of those skydivers who were training to be instructors went back up the very next morning. the faa is still investigating. i'm jackie kruzik and i'm proud to be a new jersey educator. so this was not the start to prom night that anybody wanted. the limo, as you can see, bursting into flames. >> now, the students were forced to bolt from that stretch to escape fire and raising concerns about limo safety. adrienne bankert joins us now with more. good morning, adrienne. >> good morning, paula and dan. when you first see that video, you think insane, did everybody get out okay, right? the flames erupting after the driver of that limo hit a tree, thankfully one of the high schoolers inside noticed something was wrong and motioned for everyone to get out. >> smoke started like flying past the windows. >> reporter: overnight prom night brush with disaster, ten teenagers barely walking away after their rented stretch limo turned into a raging inferno. >> again, motor vehicle fire, engine 2, a-2 located at union street and brook street. >> this car is completely engulfed. >> reporter: the limo engulfed in flames from the hood all the way to the trunk. the dramatic scene captured on cell phone video. >> smoke was everywhere, so we got out and two minutes later the flames started flying up. >> it was scary. i was in tears. it was really scary. >> reporter: with prom season, holidays and group outings in full swing this close call a startling reminder of the potential dangers of riding in luxury and those behind the wheel. >> oh, my gosh. >> reporter: and in 2013 this limo fire on a bay area bridge, nine women inside on a bachelorette party with fewer exits than a regular car, five of them died, trapped in the flames. the incident ruled an accident, but investigators said the limo was carrying two more people than legally allowed. >> stretch limousines are a lot different than cars. i mean, you're taking a car that's designed to have a specific amount of weight and you're stretching it. you're adding bodies to it. they just don't hold up as long. >> reporter: last year on long island a limousine nearly split in two when a truck slams right into the middle of it killing four of the women inside. the limo driver indicted on negligent homicide charges in march. as for these teens who escaped disaster by seconds, a happy ending and grateful to make it to the prom. >> if he didn't pull over like if we were on the highway or something and we didn't have a way to get out of the limo, we might not have been able to get to the prom, and bad things could have happened. >> reporter: now, as for the students in the story, no one was injured. one of the teens tweeting they were able to get to the prom safely and enjoy their night thanks to a passing party bus that kindly picked them up, but it certainly does make you twice about riding in style. >> it does. i can't believe there just was randomly a party bus passing by. >> i think there were some other groups going to the prom on their way to the dance but, you know, you think i'm going to call and make sure and know the vehicle's history, i'm going to call and find out the driver's history before booking a ride like this. >> or you can just drive your children yourself and drop them off at prom. i'm sure you, okay, time to turn off the light. >> and the last piece of advice you give is to get ready early. what do you mean by that? >> well, sometimes you're so tired that the idea of brushing your teeth and washing your face and changing your clothes seems insurmountable so if you get ready while you're still -- you know an hour or two from getting ready to go to sleep then when you're ready to turn
