and a lot of news to get to. breaking news overnight, the white house in contact with the fbi over those stories about russia during the campaign and there's president trump getting ready to speak to the largest group of conservatives in america this morning in d.c. >> a lot to get to. first that breaking news from overseas. authorities revealing a banned chemical agent vx was used to kill the north korean leader's half brother at the malaysian airport and terry moran has more. these new details are disturbing to say the least. >> reporter: terrifying, amy. this is a truly shocking development. vx is considered the weapon of mass destruction. it's lethal in tiny amounts and here it's been used to kill a single individual at a major busy international airport. this morning, malaysian police are saying two women accused of murdering kim jong-nam at the kuala lumpur airport used a chemical weapon called vx, a banned nerve agent. vchl vx is deadly even in small amounts. surveillance cameras caught the moment one of the suspects wiped the liquid toxin on his face. he is seen stumbling towards officials for help before collapsing. malaysian officials say the suspects washed their hands right away but one later became sick and vomited. they are scrambling to make sure no other area is affected. it can take days or weeks for the agent to evaporate. symptoms can last for hours. it causes first confusion, drowsiness and nausea before leading to death or paralysis banned under the chemicals weapons convention but north korea is not part of that. vx is not something you make in your kitchen. the fact that it was used to kill kim jong-un's half brother points to evidence that north korea is the culprit but they have a massive arsenal of them. 5,000 tons of mustard gas and sarin and vx and now have demonstrated they're willing to use them. thanks very much. we move on to the new report that the white house asked the fbi to dispute recent stories about contacts between the trump campaign and russian intelligence during the presidential election. our senior justice correspondent pierre thomas with details. >> reporter: today a white house official tells abc news that priebus was in contact with the fbi and did ask the fbi to set the record straight and dispute the accuracy of stories suggesting there was repeated contact between trump associates and russian intelligence officials during the campaign. late last night white house press secretary sean spicer told cnn we didn't try to knock the story down. we asked them to tell the truth. the fbi's declining to comment this morning but a source did not dispute the conversation between priebus and fbi executive did take place. priebus went on a talk show and blasted the story about them contacting russian officials as inaccurate and grossly overstated. he suggested that his assessment was based on discussions he had with intelligence officials and including the fbi, george. >> he said he talked to the fbi. this is sensitive, pierre, because white house political officials are not supposed to have contact with the fbi over ongoing investigations. >> reporter: super sensitive because the fbi is supposed to be free to conduct criminal investigations pretty much independently and bureau policy is generally not to comment on ongoing investigations. democrats are criticizing the white house contact with the fbi calling it pressure. that is something the white house today is rejecting, george. >> democrats are also saying they're surprised by the white house's categorical denials. thanks very much. the trump administration taking center stage at cpac, the largest annual gathering of conservative activists in the country. both vice president mike pence and white house chief strategist steve bannon making their case for trump's agenda and against the media. let's go to jonathan karl with more on all of that. good morning, jon. >> reporter: good morning, amy. conservatives once viewed donald trump with great skepticism and some still do but today he goes before that conservative political action conference as the clear leader of the republican party and the conservative movement. vice president pence got a warm welcome at this year's most influential gathering of conservative activists. >> you know, this is the ninth time i've had the privilege to address cpac. thanks to all of you and the confidence of our new president, this is the first time i'm here as vice president of the united states. >> reporter: decades cpac has been a showcase for presidential wanna-bes and republican big wigs but this year it's the donald trump show. >> this will be t-pac this year. >> reporter: conservatives go the a glimpse of steve bannon who pledged the president would wager an all-out war with the media and political opponent. >> if you think they're going to give you your country back without a fight, you are sadly mistaken. every day, every day it is going to be a fight and that is what i'm proudest about donald trump. every day in the oval office he tells reince and i committed this to the american people and promised this when i ran and i'm going to deliver on it. >> reporter: this year's trump takeover of cpac after he skipped last year and got hammered by his rivals. >>er told there were conservatives that would be here. >> reporter: ted cruz is back but this time with praise for what trump is doing if not exactly for trump himself. do you now think donald trump is a true conservative, a true conservative? i think he is the president and -- >> reporter: that's not my question. >> is he a conservative? >> i think he's the president and i will say the first month the cabinet president trump nominated is a terrific cabinet. >> reporter: does that mean you think he is a true conservative? >> i think he is implementing conservative policies and any time he does i will celebrate and applaud it. >> reporter: not a yes. >> i'm going to focus on substance. >> reporter: you heard kellyanne conway there say that cpac which of course stands for conservative political action conference will become known as tpac for trump. that is not sitting well with some conservative activists. talk radio show host mark levin said, quote, it is conservative political action conference, that's what it is, that's what it will be ten years from now and levin pointed out when reagan was president it was celebrated at that conference, it wasn't known as rpac. >> you mentioned trump skipped cpac last year. what do you expect his message will be to ted cruz as well perhaps who worry he's not conservative enough. >> reporter: i think his first message will be he won, that is trump's answer to a lot of the criticism. he won. he won big in those republican primaries among conservative voters and then he'll point to what he is doing, by all accounts a conservative agenda so or at least as defined by donald trump. >> thank you. more from our chief political analyst matthew dowd and amy holmes, political strategist for rasmussen reports. trump going to cpac this year. overall his approval ratings pretty dismal but he does have a stronghold on conservatives and republicans right now. >> well, as you know, george, he is in an historic low. about a majority of the country that disapproves of him but does have a very, very solid base of support that doesn't seem to have moved. the problem for a problem you immediate a majority of the country in order to communicate effectively and govern effectively. doesn't do any good to speak to fans. reminds me of the oscars, you cannot win an oscar is all you do is talk to the cast of your own movie. you have to branch out. >> amy, he'll have a chance to branch out to the whole country when he speaks to congress tuesday night. one of the things we've been seeing members of congress going home, going to town meetings and getting big questions about the repeal of obamacare, about russia. some real angry meetings there. >> there are and if you heard the vice president last night he actually really focused on obamacare repeal and replace so republicans in the trump administration are not backing down, although i understand some congressmen like pete king from new york, he phoned in. he didn't want to show up and be shouted at on camera. going back to cpac what i found interesting was how the trump administration is reaching out to conservatives to consolidate support. steve bannon who made that rare appearance told cpac this is where donald trump launched his political career six years ago which i think would be surprising to some conservatives since he didn't do well in straw polls there. but i also vice president mike pence said to this conservative audience that the cabinet that president trump has chosen is the most conservative cabinet he's seen. >> steve bannon knows the take on the media. red meat for that crowd, no question, right, amy? >> absolutely. i mean, the immediate were is a big, fat, juicy target for conservatives. >> matthew, one thing we're seeing playing off this report that reince priebus talked to the fbi about russia. this story going to continue to embattle the white house as long as the fbi intelligence.coms are investigating. >> well, i think you're going to have senate committees that will bring this and it will become full, front and center and not going away. for viewers is if you're upset or upset about bill clinton meeting with the attorney general then you ought to be upset with what these contacts reportedly heard the suspect yell get out of my country before opening fire in the packed where where fans had gathered to watch a college basketball game. this morning 51-year-old adam purinton is accused of murdering a man in cold blood and injuring two others. it took place inside a busy kansas sports bar wednesday at around 7:15 p.m. >> i've got two down with gunshot wounds to the chest. a third with a wound to the hip. >> reporter: the suspect traveling 80 miles to an applebee's in clinton, missouri. >> now we're being advise the suspect's name is adam, and he is a white male wearing a white shirt with military medals. >> reporter: police say a bartender at the restaurant called them after purinton allegedly told him he had shot two middle eastern men and needed a place to hide out. the fbi now investigating whether this is a hate crime. >> our role in this investigation is to work jointly with law enforcement to determine if an individual's civil rights were violated. >> the two men were not middle eastern but of indian descent. srinivas kuchibhotla died of his injuries and another, alok madasani is in the hospital with injuries. >> it went through my hand and chest here. >> >> reporter: she was a high school teacher and experienced beauty pageant contestant seen here winning one of her tiaras on investigation discovery. in 2005 she went missing after watching a pageant and having dinner with friends. more than a decade went by with no and the for her family. >> i need an appointed attorney. >> reporter: this morning this man seen here in his first court appearance is now charged with murdering her. authorities say that ryan alexander duke broke into her home in october of 2005, robbed and killed the teacher with his bare happens and then hid the body. he has not yet entered a plea. >> ryan alexander duke did in the county of foresaid commit aggravated aseattle. >> reporter: duke was a student at her school and here's his senior photo from the yearbook and graduated three years before grinstead was killed. police say the mystery ended earlier this week. a few days ago an individual came forward and reported that they had information into tara's disappearance. >> reporter: an mraents filmmaker who produces a podcast is credited with keeping interest in the story alive. >> this is up and vanished. the investigation of tara grinstead. i'm your host payne lindsey. it would be great to, you know, call up her parents and sister and say, hey, i think we have some information that can help solve this. >> reporter: this morning grinstead's family is thankful for answers after all these years. >> on behalf of billy and myself, the first thing that i want to do is to thank god for answered prayers. we always believed that it would be solved. we just did not know when. >> reporter: the young man in custody was never on the radar of investigators and police have not yet said if they've recovered the woman's body. amy. >> all right, steve, thank you for that. joining us now legal analyst nancy grace and documentary filmmaker and amateur investigator payne lindsey. thanks for being with us. nancy, i know you have followed it for years and know the details intimately. what was it about this case that captured america's attention. >> i think that there were so many factors that grabbed america's attention. for one thing, i recall distinctly at the time tara went missing going to ocilla and meeting with her family and going through her home, step by step, i looked around and it looked like a little jewel box. she had it perfectly appointed. it looked like it was out of a magazine. you know where you shot for home furnishings and everything was perfectly in place and it struck me then that her alarm clock had been pushed away from her bed. it was broken on the floor. there were some beads on the floor, a lamp shade was askew. there was a mark on her bedpost. her car had clay on it. it was unlocked and the seat was pushed back and i knew then, tara was gone. >> wow and, payne, you're a documentary filmmaker and interested in true crime. you got some early tips from the family's private investigator and don't think this case is over yet. >> i don't. i want to credit dr. maurice goblin a part of this case with me since the very beginning since i started the podcast but, yeah, i think that this is of one piece to a bigger puzzle that we should find out soon about in the coming days and near future. >> you believe there might be more arrests. what role do you believe your podcast made? a lot believe it solved this murder mystery. >> i think that the podcast opened up this atmosphere in ocilla that created this trust factor and line of communication and an open channel and i think that has been so long these secrets have been kept and it's just been such a tight-lipped uncomfortable thing to talk about and the podcast maybe helped create an environment for the truth to come out. >> nancy, we just heard about this community and the impact this has had. what do you think it means for the community to finally be solved? >> you know, before this, ocilla and still is a beautiful area, very bucolic, gorgeous woods and meadows, this hung over the community like a dark cloud and now it's blown away and i don't think the case is over. when the spokesperson for the gbi was asked yesterday will there be more arrests, he basically said, wait and see. somebody knew about this. they walked straight into police headquarters and said, i got a tip for you on tara grinstead and then, bam, everything happened very quickly. so it's not over yet. >> yeah, and, payne, tell me why it was so important to you personally to help solve the case? "logan" hits theaters march 3rd and, wow, that's all i can say. >> you had to grow a beard too. >> i do but deb is kind of happy. >> i can understand that. >> but now we'll talk about the oscars which are two days away. like you said you hosted the show and what do you think jimmy kimmel is going through right now? what's going through his mind? >> right now he's probably quite relaxed because he will know what his show is and now you go into this thing of camera rehearsals and today is friday so he'll be at the stage today. so it's his first run-through on the stage age finally hitting him and that guy is a pro. i love jimmy and i think he's going to be so exciting. it's a moment he'll never forget. my goal was to have the time of my life whether it worked or not -- >> you had quite an elaborate number. what was the thing you were most worried about or nervous about before going on any. >> the elaborate number. [ laughter ] and the billion people watching live. >> we have a clip of how you did. let's take a look. ♪ because i am hugh jackman ♪ and i've waited so long ♪ and no one can stop my confession or silence my song ♪ [ cheers and applause ] >> that was the best. >> dan and rob, the recession was on, sort of great recession so let's do the budget oscars and came up with this idea. that was it. >> but go ahead. >> your movie right now, so what are you getting when you're out there? what kind of reaction have you been getting? >> for the movie? really, really strong. i think we tried to make something that didn't feel like a comic book movie but a love letter to the fans but a movie that people have never ever seen a comic book movie would go to and people i think are surprised by it and it's been really gratifying and thankfully even though this is my last one people are like, no. >> it really is your last one. >> took a little souvenir away? >> oh, many. on the very first "x-men" had a garbage back with the x-men suit and said you should keep this and i said there's ten of them. he said, nine are gone. take this one. >> like tom brady's jersey. >> the reason -- one of the reasons our good friend jerry seinfeld having dinner after his birthday and asking him about finishing the series. he said it's important to know when to go. not finishing on top but as a creative person, if you tap yourself out and you've gone too long it's almost impossible to kind of keep going. >> you feel like you've left it all -- >> yeah, every frame of this film i put everything into and i owe it to the fans. i'm so grateful to the fans and this is my love letter to them. [ applause ] >> you watch the film and you did put everything. you and patrick stewart -- everybody put everything into the film. it is a great film and you've done this nine times and played this character nine types. i hear you're a great theater performer and when you got this role your wife wasn't too excited that you took this role of wolverine. >> it was a worldwide search going out. i was a guy in london doing a musical "oklahoma" three pages came through and reading the scene with her so she's looking at it going wolverine senses dangers, and snikt. claws come out of her hands. she goes, literally threw the pages on the ground. i said i'm going to give it a go. she says you're on your own. the only time i might add she's ever been wrong ever. ever. she's watching too. i really shouldn't have told that story, baby. sorry. >> you made it great and we're happy you decided to give this "logan" something -- >> how long did you play football for. >> 15. >> you know what it's like. >> i knew i could have gone on a few more. enough is enough. i wanted to leave with people wanting more. very important. very important. expressway westbound at gulph mills we have an accident on the shoulder that's creating the jam on the schuylkill expressway. and then we're looking at 1 miles per hour at times, 15 miles per hour eastbound as you head near girard. i-95 southbound we had an accident near the airport, that has cleared, so traffic there is moving a lot better. over here on the turnpike westbound the accident out
