WPVI Good Morning America November 26, 2014

79. Revealing the secrets that could put money back in your pocket. Carlton is the king of the ballroom. Alfonso pulling out all the stops, his champion partner, witney. Overnight, all the finalists flying crosscountry to tango into times square. Gmas dancing with the stars after part starts right now. Good morning, america. Here we come, new york. And we do say good morning, america. The day before thanksgiving. Good to have George Stephanopoulos back with us from st. Louis. And your interview with officer wilson getting headlines all across country. We had to do it from a secret location. He was in fear. He wanted to get the story out. Spent more than an hour. Answered every question, no restrictions. Well get to that. But it is the busiest travel day of the year. And a huge storm coming up the east coast, making driving and flying a little tricky today. Hundreds of flights already cancelled. We have the latest. Ginger will bring us up to speed. Right. Begin with ferguson. Dozens arrested as the protests got out of control overnight again. And another Police Car Set on fire. I sat down with officer Darren Wilson telling his side of the story. I used my door to push him back and yell at him. He stares at me. And i look back, punches start flying. He threw the first punch . Yes. He threw the first one and hit me in the left side of my face. There was a barrage of swinging and grabbing and pulling for 10 seconds. He was in the car physically, he had ducked his head and come into the vehicle with me. Where is your gun . I keep it on my right hip. I point it at him. I said get back or im going to shoot you. And immediately he grabbed the top of my gun and said youre too much of a [ bleep ] to shoot me. I could feel his hand trying to come over my hand and get inside the trigger guard and shoot me with my own gun. He got off two shots in the car. I started to he started to run . He started to run. Okay, i missed, the round didnt hit him. I go to exit my car. I use my walkie, shots fired, send more cars. And i chies after Michael Brown. You describe him as a demon in the car. Do you know where that word came from . What were you seeing at that moment . It was just such a high level of intensity and aggression and anger that it was almost unfathomable to see it. How is this happening. It was shocked. And youre positive that youd have that exact same reaction if you were white. Yes. Some of the witnesses have said they thought you were out of control. That somehow you had snapped. That would be incorrect. There was never the only emotion i ever felt was fear, and then it was survival and training. We know from the autopsy reports that no shots went into Michael Brown from the back. Did you fire any shots when he was running away. No. Only fired to his front. Correct. As you know some of the eyewitnesss said at the moment he turned around he turned around and put his hands up. That would be uncorrect incorrect. No way. No way. Some witnesses have also said they saw you stand over him and shoot him in the top of his head. Would be incorrect. Hes down now. Yes. You know hes dead . Yes. They tell you afterwards, there are times you wont remember where its fast or slow. That was the slow motion for me. And i saw the face he had go blank. Everything was just blank and i knew immediately that he had passed. What did you think . Need help. I got back on the radio and i said, send a supervisor and every car we have. You never shot your gun before, and now a man is dead. Uhhuh. Does that put you in shock . What are you feeling at that point . Shock is a good way to describe it. To the a cop wants to use their gun today. No one wants to. No one ever wants to do that. It happened in a minute. The brown family came out with a statement. We are profoundly disappointed that the killer of our child will not face the consequences of his actions. What do you think when you hear that . I think those are grieving parents mourning the loss of their son. Theyre saying that you have to face the consequences of your actions. Do you think theres anything you can say to them that can change their minds or hearts . I dont think theres anything i can say. But, again, im sorry that their son lost his life. It wasnt the intention of that day. Its what occurred that day. And theres no nothing you can say thats going to make a parent feel better. Do you feel any remorse . Everyone feels remorse when a lifes lost. Like i told you before, i never wanted to take anybodys life. You know, thats not the good part of the job. Thats the bad part of the job. So, yes, there is remorse. George, as you know, a lot of reaction to the interview. And people not only listening closely to what he said, but he he said it. And many people are questioning his demeanor. Yeah. You know, hes very straight forward, very clinical in describing what happened. He has been telling the same story since going back so the Police Station that afternoon. Not a lot of emotion. He sees himself as a Police Officer doing his duty that day. And hes not going to give much more than those facts. And in fact he told you he felt he was doing his job. Because of that, he says he has a clean conscious. You are going to have more coming up . Whats coming up and whats next for him. Thats coming up. And we will post the whole interview, every question and answer on our website later this morning. All right. It was a relatively calm night in ferguson after monday nights looting and protesting. The National Guard were on the street. And alex perez is on the ground in ferguson. Good morning. Reporter good morning, robin. Take a look at this, im seeing right here. There are scenes of damage like this across ferguson. An entire row of cars burned her. Overnight, 2200 National Guardsmen patrolled the streets of ferguson. What a stark difference from monday night. The protests were still happening outside the Police Station. But they were smaller crowds and less violent. About 45 people were arrested. Now across the country from coast to coast there were protests in solidarity with the brown family. In minneapolis one woman was treated for minor injuries after a car plowed into a group of protesters there. Now back here in ferguson, missouri, governor jay nixon says the National Guard will stay in place as long as necessary. Robin, george. Okay, thank you. Move on to the other big story of the morning. Thanksgiving whereveather. Big storm in the east coast, snow in the midwest. Turning into a nightmare for million was americans on the move. And as advertised, starting as rain, up through florida, south and North Carolina. Washington, d. C. To philadelphia. The roads are wet. We have pictures, seen video all morning. This is going to be a problem for you. Even if it doesnt change to snow until later in the afternoon. The heavy rains will start to change over. Just north and west, away from the coast, all changes over right there at noon. The pink line is sleet. A little mix. The heaviest snow totals are going to come right here, just west of the pink line. Anywhere from albany through interior new england. And wraps around and late tonight starts to move off. But we will all see flakes, even though not a ton of claemgaccu n accumulation. Move just away from the coast, and see the totals go up to 4 and 8 inches anywhere in the pink. Through the mountains of virginia, through pennsylvania into parts of new york and eventually maine. Thats a look at the snow for now. I will have your full holiday forecast, west to east. There are other places worried about this this morning, including the midwest. More than 40 million americans, we have been saying, will be driving this holiday weekend. Rob marciano is out on the roads in new york city this morning for us. Good morning. Reporter good morning, robin. Its a dicey travel day as ginger mentioned. Rain coming down here in new york city on the west side highway. Take a look out the front windshield, hydro planing in spots. Travel i95, probably the busiest from d. C. To boston. All wet today. Not going to stick there. But a lot of traffic for sure. Go further north up the interstate throughway, i91, hit snow. And i90 from boston to buffalo, snowcovered and a bit treacherous. Not only today, but tomorrow 90 of americans that travel on thanksgiving will travel by car. So keep your distance, keep your patience and yourself and your kids in the backseat cool. Happy thanksgiving. Thank you for keep your eyes on the road. Hundreds of flights cance d canceled, hundreds of delays. This is flights early in the day. Kerr ke david kerley is at the busiest airport. Reporter good morning. We are at the delta tower. And they are heading out there later today. The folks in the tower have not added cancellations. There are delays in the Washington Area and further north. And they are keeping a close eye on that storm. This morning some passengers are already home, refuses to chance the weather. The weather, i just changed my flight. Reporter airlines waving ticket change fees, hoping to move as many passengers as possible before the storm. It was smart, before the day started, 200 flights were canceled. Three hours to scramble and get her. Its been fun. Reporter fun is not what the thousands of Airline Workers are expecting today. Here in deltas atlanta tower, they make sure aircraft are ready to go. They know that northeast storm will reach down here on one of the busiest travel days of the year. It all comes together with the training and that we have. Thats where its a test of our mettle. Reporter its not just the weather, its a challenge to get the bag home. Here in atlanta, they have 40 miles of conveyor belts, and today, an extra 10,000 bags. And an extra 20,000 bag on sunday, the busiest travel day of the year for delta. There is a little bit of good news. And that is theyre expecting a little less snow up in the northeast. That could mean fewer cancellations. At least thats the hope. Everybody here is hoping to get everybody home for thanksgiving. So is everyone in our family. Thank you. Now to amy with the other top stories. Good morning, everyone. Begin with new details about a daring raid by u. S. Special forces in the predawn hours tuesday. Storming a cave in evening yemen to rescue eight hostages held by al qaeda militants. A shootout, but they were evacuated. And yemen has allowed militant groups to gain ground in recent months. Two men from minneapolis are charged with trying to join isis up one was stopped on a flight, the other made it to syria. About a dozen from minnesota have flown to the middle east to join isis. And the university of virginia is hiring an outside law firm to investigates the Sexual Assault policy. They adopted a zero tolerance policy. They say its too early to say how it will be implemented. A suspect fleeing police took a wrong turn. Driving down this dead end road. He backs up and decides to floor it, hoping to crash, whoa, through the fence at the end of the street. Did not work for him. The fence stops him. It becomes a trap of sorts. Seconds later, puts his hands up, appearing to surrender. Tries to fake out the police, running toward a National Guard facility where two guardsmen helped Police Tackle him. No one was injured perhaps except for his pride. A dramatic jewelry heist in paris. Cell phone video catching the scene in the busy shopping district. Police chased them across the river. They took a hostage in a beauty salon at gunpoint. They surrenders and the jewels were recovered. A terrifying experience for a woman in australia. The ground gave way and she was swallowed by a nine foot sink hole. Forced to tread water for 20 minutes before rescuers arrived and pulled her out. And an extraordinary discovery in france. This is an original book of shakespeaikkespeare shakespeares play. Its 400 years old. It was discovered by chance. Experts say it could sell for more than 7 million. Yes. Thats correct. And some say it could go even higher. Its priceless. And the skys the limit. If youre flying today, no matter how long the delay. Heres something to consider. Things could be worse. Case in point, this flight in russia where passengers were told to get out of the plane and push because the planes wheels were stuck to the runway. The temperature . 58 degrees below zero. Apparently not unusual for this time of year in siberia. Hopefully things wont get that bad in the northeast. Dont think they will. Take that with you. Not sure im getting on the plane after i have to push it. Do you get a discount on your ticket . Consolation for that dont charge for the meal. Exactly. Thank you very much. And now a shopper who, well, he got a little too good for saving money. He was banned by kohls for price matches. They give you the same price as a rival. Can a store really shut you out . Rebecca jarvis has the story. Reporter israel is such a super saver ive exceeded 25,000. Reporter he has been banned. Im no longer welcome to shop kohls online. Reporter and his strategy is something they encourage. Price matchesing. Matching a competitors lower price. Its smart shopping. Reporter but he says the real key to savings is retailers that allow coupons on top of the price match. Its not just best buy, home depot and walmart that price match. Even if their small, it never thourts and and i have had success. Reporter but they are not limitless. He used Price Matching and discounts to get this 1100 dresser at kohls down to 79. He ordered six, three never arrived. She told me the reason my orders were being canceled was because i was Price Matching too much and they were losing money on the items. Reporter kohls telling abc news it prefers not to address individual customer circumstances. But it says that it reserves the right to limit the quantity of items purchased per person. There ant many limitations to price matches except that a retailer can reserve the right to decline your purchases. Reporter but no fear. Even with the fine print, there are plenty of big savings to go around. For Good Morning America, rebecca jarvis, abc news, new york. And it all begins today. Or, no, well, black friday. But its on, people. Its on. We already see that. Thank you. Go back to this is florida and this morning still a flood watch so theyve had one to 4inches. If you were driving in Central Florida you know what im talking about. It was not a pretty sight. It will get better. Thats the good news ill take you into the forecast. Florida alone drying out and cooling down significantly. These are high temperatures for today by the evening at least. Down into the 60s. 62 tampa, 66 fort myers, 62 jacksonville but it will be drier so thats good for travel. Then you look at those Winter Weather advisories. Theres another region look for that snow already happening in some places and in parts of southern minnesota they could see five, six plus inches of snow. You see it right there in the pink. Some of the local areas could see even 12. Lake effect snow also a warning up in the up of michigan, Upper Peninsula and northern wisconsin. Thats a look of north to east for your travel holiday. Your local Weather Forecast is coming up in a couple seconds. First we have to goat though those snowy cities brought to you by burlington. Hi, everyone, dave murphy here with an update from accuweather. A lost rain across the region. As we take a look outside pretty murky at the airport even without wet snow yet. Its still slow going on the roads. Temperature in the 40s falling into the 30s later. And today well spend day in the 30s probably above freezing in philadelphia. Closer to it in the northern and western suburbs. Once we change over to wet snow well have to look out for slippery roads in the northwest f my interview interview with officer Darren Wilson. What his life is like in hiding and what its like for his family. Plus the alarming weakness in Home Security systems. Why your home may not be as safe as you think. And epic fail, the twitter executive who had trouble using twitter. The message he accidently shared with the world. And the huge dancing with the stars after part gets started. Alfonso and witney taking home the mirror ball. Its a marshmallow world in the winter when the snow comes to cover the ground its a time for play, its a whipped cream day i wait for it all year round in winter its a marshmallow world.
