heartbreaking news out of hollywood. the death of actress debbie reynolds only a day after losing her daughter. >> reynolds was among the last legends of hollywood's golan age best known for "singin' in the rain," her son says she suffered a stroke yesterday at the age of 84. >> overnight fans paying tribute leaving flowers and candles on her star on the hollywood walk of fame. >> reynolds was mourning daughter carrie fisher who died after a heart attack. fisher's brother says the stress of losing her was too much for their mother. abc's byron pitts has more on her career. >> reporter: she was the definition of hollywood glamour in the goldage age of cinema. debbie reynolds whose career spanned generations yielding enduring classics like "singin' in the rain". ♪ dark up above >> reporter: died at the age of 84. it's a tragic hollywood ending for the gifted actress with the mile wide smile passing just one day after her beloved daughter carrie fisher died of a heart attack. reynolds was rushed to the hospital in serious condition. doctors determined she had suffered a massive stroke but were unable to save her. reynolds and her daughter carrie fisher were incredibly close and lived next door to each other in beverly hills. >> separated by one daunting hill. >> reporter: todd fisher looking for a sill ler lining telling abc. >> she said she missed her daughter who wanted to see her again and i don't think she really meant it quite like that but within 30 minutes she went to go see her again. >> reporter: reynolds' illustrious career spanned six decades. a tour has been announced, reynolds' son says she suffered a stroke. >> the actress had a history of strokes and according to dan childs at the abc news medical unit the stress of losing her daughter could have been a contributing factor. >> already we're dealing with someone who has a history of this particular complication, could it be that the stress of this event was what kind of triggered that and pushed things over the edge? it's possible. it's very hard to say at this moment but certainly this was a devastating loss. >> dan also says that people often experience health problems after a traumatic event because they forget to take care of themselves so something we all need to remember. >> yeah, that, indeed, do stay with abc news for the latest on reynolds' passing. we'll have new john kerry defended the obama administration's decision to allow that u.n. resolution. a move that broke with long-standing tradition. kerry says the settlements nearly 100,000 built since 2009 jeopardize the two-state solution between israel and the palestinians which did not sit well with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu. >> and we cannot properly defend and protect israel if we allow a viable two-state solution to be destroyed before our own eyes. >> i must express my deep disappointment with the speech today of john kerry. israel looks forward to working with president-elect trump. >> reporter: last night donald trump said he has different views on the issue compared to the obama administration and that quote we'll see what happens after january 20th. palestinian president mahmood abbas said he's ready to resume peace talks with israel if it halts settlement construction. kendis and diane. >> yeah, point of contention there, janai. the israelis say they are open to direct negotiations between the two sides. thank you. donald trump and a special guest meet the media to discuss the transition process. the president-elect appeared last night at his mar-a-lago estate alongside don king. he and president obama had a good chat yesterday by phone and apparently worked through tense comments about who would have won had they run against each other. going to know because we're never going to be going against each other. >> just hours before those comments trump accused the president of throwing up roadblocks during the transition process. he communications oneweb will a add,000 jobs to the economy but did not give a time line for when that will happen. trump also addressed concerns that russia hacked the u.s. election campaign telling reporters nobody knows what is really going on and he said that he believes we have to get on with our lives. well, today the white house is expected to restream sanctions against russia over the hacking. officials are expected to add a little more clarity as to why authorities believe russia is to blame. meanwhile, a major winter storm is bearing down on parts of the northeast right before that holiday weekend. take a look at that winter weather. these are alerts and advisories going on stretching through most of new england. the front is moving east toward the coast. mostly a rain investigation after a deadly helicopter crash in galveston bay. two soldiers with the texas army national guard died when that chopper went down. the flight was on a normal training mission at the time but witnesses say the helicopter actually broke apart before the crash. the brother of jonbenet ramsey has filed a $750 million defamation lawsuit against cbs as well as others, burke ramsey says a multipart series that aired on the network falsely accuses him of murdering his younger sister. ramsey was 9 years old when jonbenet was found strangled in their home in 1996. the case has generated their boat suddenly started taking on water. >> the time we realized were in trouble it took a minute for the boat to go down. >> reporter: still brent managed to save his phone. >> i kept my hand above the weather reports's called 911 they climbed on top. >> our life jackets are underneath. >> everybody a good swimmer or no. >> yes, we're all strong swimmers. >> reporter: this deputy spotted them and brought them to shore. >> a huge feeling of relief to come up to them and see all three there together with the boat. >> it's still not clear what caused it to take on water. much more later on on "good morning america." now to another remarkable survival story that could have have been a family tragedy. a great-grandmother from new jersey has been found alive after disappearing before christmas. she and her great granddaughter were driving to north carolina on christmas eve but never made it. police outside richmond, virginia, stay a man found the pair yesterday afternoon while checking out the woods on his property. >> fortunately today he took a path that goes further back in the woods quite a ways and that's when he came across the vehicle in the woods. >> reporter: the car was parked at least a mile from a paved road. police say they survived on apples as well as eating other snacks that they had taken for the road trip. mrs. briley is in serious condition in the hospital and her granddaughter has been reunited with her family. and check out this video of a smash and grab outside philadelphia. police say the man used a sledgehammer to shatter the window early tuesday morning. it's believed he got away with about $100,000 in watches and jewelry. to some health news and a possible link between fish oil and lower risk of asthma. scientists in denmark found
