two were with their grandmother, but when their mother returned from work, the children were not at home. they told their grandfather they were going to play at the playground at 9:00 last night but he fell asleep and didn't realize that they didn't return home. police and k-9 officers are searching for the children seen here in this picture, if you know their whereabouts, are you urged to call police right away. two people were rescued from a burning hom in the mantua section. to people were ain to get out on their on. the fire broke out on ashton street at 2:40 this morning. one firefighter suffered a minor hand injury during the call and everyone else is okay. atlantic city's losing streak appears to continue. we are waiting for official word from trump plaza officials but a local state senator told "action news" that the casino will shut its doors by the end of summer. annie mccormick has the details. >> citing multiple sources, they say that trump plaza will send out voted to reduce the fire department staffing by eight, the move cuts government spending by $500,000. council says the positions are currently vacant and will not affect response times or public safety. the mayor has announced the cuts saying it will lead to house closures. the state has fired its chief medical examiner after evidence of misconduct and a criminal investigation is ongoing and "action news" reporter sharrie williams has the details. >> it sounds like a bomb went off. >> reporter: joe donahue heard and felt the impact of a car going through the living room. >> ran out and there was a lot of smoke and i told my wife to get out of house. >> the 75-year-old woman who lives in one of upstairs units was behind the wheel when it happened. donahue rushed in to help his neighbor. >> i knocked on the window and she was dazed from the airbag hitting her and i crawled into the backseat and then the front and unlocked the door. >> the downstairs unit is heavily damaged and the woman that live there's was not home at the time of the crash. we spoke with the owner's granddaughter. >> thank god my grandmom was not here because her couch sat in front of that window. >> family members tell me this unit was undergoing renovations and this crash is going to set that back. neighbors tell me that just before the crash, the elderly woman was in her vehicle in the street, they say she was looking disoriented before she crashed into the home, police tell me the cause is still under investigation. in northeast philadelphia, sharrie williams, channel 6 "action news." >> well the search is on for a roxborough man that slipped out of a home after a standoff with police, the action cam was along the 400 block of del mar street last night. the man was involved in a fight with a woman, he fled to a home and barricaded himself inside. when police gained access to the home the man was gone and a gun was found. prosecutors are now seeking a life sentence for a convicted child killer and rapist. yesterday a jury found rivera guilty on all 11 counts ranging from first degree murder to burglary. >> i'm relieved that this man is finally going to pay for what he did to my son and my daughter. >> police say that rivera broke into the victim's house and raped amber at knife point, she was just 12 years old at the time, that is when her 6-year-old brother dominic ran in screaming trying to defend her and rivera slashed both their throats killing little dominic. normally channel 6 "action news" does not identify victims of sexual assault but amber and her mother want to show the world they stand tall. >> israeli air strikes continue to pelt targets in gaza, hamas says for the first time the rockets hit mosques for the first time could galvanize support with muslims. they say they are stockpiling weapons underneath mosques and homes. a u.n. resolution is still not official calls for an immediate cease fire. a strong earthquake rattled japan last night striking just off the coast near the crippled nuclear plant at fukushima, the 6.2 magnitude quake cause aid small tsunami but no damage is reported. an earthquake in 2011 led to damage of the nuclear reactions. people were ordered to higher ground but fortunately this quake did not worsen conditions. homeland security secretary jay johnson visited shelters in new mexico. the center is housing 400 illegal immigrants, president obama and leaders are at odds on how to ease the immigration vice sunrise several groups are joining forces to get people what they need for the upcoming school year,
